to smirk about Ulrika Johnson's predicament

OK I probably am being horrible but I couldn't help but laugh hearing that people are calling Ulrika Johnson 4 X 4 - aparently it has really upset her.

Yes she can complain. IT'S SEXIST. Male celebs who talk about their sex lives don't get slagged off for it or lose respect from the public. In fact their social currency goes up. Look at randy grandad Mick Jagger or beehived nutter Russell Brand.

"agree with elizabethh"

Sophable.

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 15/12/2007 19:06

I don't rate Jagger or Brand as sexy or desirable myself. In fact any male who boasts about his sex life (or lack of it) should really be in yr8 or so at school.

Elizabetth · 15/12/2007 19:08

Still doesn't contradict the point I'm making though. Most people don't sneer at Jagger or Brand for their sex lives or in Jagger's case the babies various women have had with him.

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 15/12/2007 19:15

My point was rather more (badly expressed) that she put stuff into the public domain herself so she can't complain now if it's used in a way which she may not like .

Elizabetth · 15/12/2007 19:21

Women should always complain about sexism, including Ulrika Johnson if she wants to.

If we didn't we wouldn't be able to vote, would be shut out of education, wouldn't have equal pay and wouldn't have things like maternity rights, and a lot more people would still believe that the sexual double standard between men and women was valid. Thankfully that kind of Victorian thinking is gradually disappearing.

dara · 15/12/2007 19:23

Anyway, some predicament eh? 40, madly in love with an adoring, handsome, well-off man, plenty of money, lovely house, three gorgeous, healthy children and one on the way... would that we had all fucked up our lives so comprehensively, eh?

KITTYmaspudding · 15/12/2007 19:26

Actually I don't have a problem with lesser degrees of sexism.

I'm not at all PC either it drives me up the wall

UJ goes around choosing unsuitable men, getting pg and then bleating on about her lot to the media. She portrays herself as a victim. Would Ihave a go at a man for doing the same thing?
A man is very unlikely to do that and if he did I would think "What a stupid wuzz, you deserve what you get, go get a back bone"

bookofchristmascarolsmum · 15/12/2007 19:41

The Victorians have a lot to answer for - no more chimmey-sweeping or factory work for children, basic schooling by law, provision of decent hospitals, sewerage and clean water systems put in place.

And if a man boasted about having babies with 4 different women, I'd think what a twat he was. Regardless of whether he was Mick Jagger/Rod Stewart or Joe Bloggs down the road. Don't we look down on boys who get multiple girls pg? Or shouldn't we?

dara · 15/12/2007 19:58

She isn't "boasting" ffs.
Women hate women. It makes me sick.
Bruce Forsythe has six children with three wives. He's a national treasure. And I have no problem with that, as it happens, but he's not routinely sneered at for it.

Scotia · 15/12/2007 20:08

Women hate women? Well Ulrika didn't show a great deal of respect to her fellow woman when she had an affair with another woman's partner, did she now?

dara · 15/12/2007 20:11

And what's that to you? I hardly think it was Sven's first time. Why doesn't he get the attacks? He was having affairs all over the place, and his partner knew about it.
Women do hate women. This site is full of women being absolutely vicious about female celebrities in a way they never are about men. A man has to kill people to attract the kind of condemnation a woman attracts for having too many sexual partners

controlfreakyhohohohohohoho · 15/12/2007 20:16

oh but i sneer at him regularly....and routinely.

KITTYmaspudding · 15/12/2007 20:24

Uj should stop whining.

UniversallyChallenged · 15/12/2007 20:34

but if she did then she wouldnt get a big fat cheque would she Kitty

You know the thing worse than everyone talking about you is when no-one is talking about you!

so in that way she's a clever girl

helenhismadwife · 15/12/2007 20:34

im a 6x2

LittleSleighBellasRinging · 15/12/2007 20:36

But why is she "whining"?

She has made a perfectly valid observation. And it's called whining.

KITTYmaspudding · 15/12/2007 20:40

helen I'm a 6x1

I call it whining because she plays the victim. She plays the "poor put upon/used/misused woman" card.
She is using her gender to her advantage so surely I cannot therefore judge her as a genderless person?

LittleSleighBellasRinging · 15/12/2007 20:44

Does she?

I haven't followed her career with rapt attention but with regards to the comment about the "they're only saying that because I'm a woman", I read that on a link to the Daily Mail (I didn't buy, it honest ) and she was quite matter of fact - look, it's a pita, but you just have to get on with it type of tone. She didn't come across as "poor me" at all. But perhaps she does in general, I don't know.

Scotia · 15/12/2007 20:45

Dara, Sven is a dog who puts it about anywhere he can. Is that enough condemnation of him for you? Actually I thought that bit went without saying, but this thread isn't full of people defending him. Why shouldn't Ulrika be condemned for hurting another woman? I think that is totally relevant in this discussion. You would be absolutely right if you included Ulrika as a woman who hates women.

I feel nothing but disrespect for her as a person, nothing to do with her gender, same as I feel for Sven.

KITTYmaspudding · 15/12/2007 20:47

Maybe it's jut me then, I assumed that's how everyone sees her, maybe I'm prejudiced, can't think why though. ( not being sarcastic honest!)

WiFi · 15/12/2007 20:48

Ok, new here, but I think that, perhaps after two kids by two different dads, now single, a woman should think, I am blessed, lets bring these two children up and perhaps after 2 broken relationships, concentrate on them rather than complicating things. Those children are more important then having another man who wants a baby.

If I met a man who had children by 2 previous relationships, I have to say I wouldn't be enamoured of him as a future father as I would be wondering what had happened both times. As for Rod Stewart, ok, so he is rich but how can he be there for all of those children all of the time.

I think people bring children into the world selfishly sometimes.

Scotia · 15/12/2007 20:52

One thing I grant you, this site is of people who think Heather Mills deserves to be strung up. I can't recall seeing many posts jumping to the defence of that fellow woman. How do you feel about the way she is treated?

WiFi · 15/12/2007 20:53

I think Heather made a fine investment for 2 years on the job. Well done her.

TinyTimLivesinVictorianSqualor · 15/12/2007 20:53

I used to read her column, I never really saw her as a poor me type. In fact she seemed to be the kind that would stand up and be counted, even for her fellow woman that may be a miserable old boot that thinks its their business who has how ever many kids with however many men................

Scotia · 15/12/2007 20:55

Sorry wifi, cross posted with you there, that question wasn't in response to your post.
