@Fizbosshoes

Could IB, or their protestors (theoretically) be sued by people who have suffered a loss (e.g. for loss of earnings) as a result of their actions?

What about builders or trades people who might have been on their way to fit some insulation...?

Btw When I see IB written down, I think of IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)

They're the people I had in mind, along with everyone else who's too busy trying to get to work, so they can pay heating bills and keep a roof over their heads, to have the luxury of time to waste blocking traffic and achieving diddly squat.

If IB are so worried, why not do something proactive and productive, perhaps even actually insulating a home that needs it for someone who can't afford to or isn't able to do it themselves ?? Surely thats an action that more people might be in favour of?

That is what they are trying to do, that is why they are protesting
Goals: Tax-payer-funded nationwide home insulation

There website states that improving “the quality of our homes is fundamental to achieve the British Government’s climate change, fuel poverty and water reduction targets”.

Their aims are to have the UK government take responsibility for the insulation of all UK social housing by 2025.

They would also like for the government to produce a legally-binding national plan within four months to fully fund and take responsibility for a low-energy and low-carbon retrofit of all homes by 2030.

torquewench · 30/10/2021 07:40

I meant pay for it themselves, not further burden the taxpayers who they're alienating by preventing them from going about their business. Take the initiative with direct action that will actually see a result.

torquewench The group are protesting for change for everyone, to benefit those on low income with insulated homes ( which would mean for low income not choosing between fuel or food) - not just one person on a low income getting insulation

Did I suggest they should only do one? 🤔
torquewench · 30/10/2021 08:48

Ah I can see how my post wasn't clear. I didn't mean a single home. But even actually doing one home would be achieving more than their antics thus far.

Do you think that people who care about your future should spend their money ( of which they may not have much) to insulate a few homes rather than press for funding to be released and laws to be changed to ensure all homes , especially those of the poor , get insulated ?

You don't get it do you?

You talk about tax as a burden not as a means of wealth redistribution and a means to ensure that society as a whole can benefit. I guess that also means you don't really understand why we have society and what the human race gains from cooperation and civilisation

Abs possibly you also believe you are so much better than everyone else that climate change won't hurt you

Guess again, as you're completely incorrect. 😙

torquewench You asked a question. I answered the question.

You then replied to the answer with your own agenda

I repeated the answer in a different format so you may understand why the protesters are doing what they are doing

Why you want to set your own agenda for the protestors is your business, but they are going to protest to get the biggest and best outcome

Really? This is all about getting Beth in a sixth floor council flat in Reading a bit more insulation put in the roof space above the flats on the 12th floor?

Meanwhile growing numbers have no home at all. Tackling the public health housing and homelessness emergency is the most immediate priority. Or it should be. There's no future without a today.

Talking of the housing emergency, why are Insulate concerned only with social housing? Some of the most badly insulated homes are owned by people like one of their leading voices.

The millionaire private landlord would do well to insulate the homes of his tenants before stopping working class people getting to work, school, and hospital in the name of insulation.

Then perhaps, after doing their own homes, they could help others do the same, either DIY or crowdfunding for professionals.

Meanwhile people from around the world are causing massive pollution to talk about climate change... Has COP26 not heard of Zoom? (Admittedly it does serve a purpose in that it will hopefully help boost Glasgow's economy).

Before plunging us into the deep end with green energy policies that the country is unprepared and unplanned for, we should start with more manageable solutions. Eg. encouraging smaller families through education and easy access to contraception, fewer flights, consumer products like computers and phones to be made more durable and able to cope with updates.
