To not want to drive 40 minutes to return a Jam Jar?

A family member (partners side) made us all Jam for Christmas last year, lovely gift and was very nice.

They now want all the Jars back to do it again they are like Kilner Jars (just not branded I don't think) I do still have it in the random Tupperware cupboard.

I would have to drive 40 minutes to return the Jar DH thinks I should as it is thiers. I just said it was a gift and I am happy to not receive any Jam this year to avoid this. We wont see them between now and Christmas. He thinks I'm being unreasonable?

DH can't drive and there is no public transport to where they live!

I made the mistake of buying Kilner jars some years ago and now they are just clutter. I’m making mini rum baba for Christmas just to get rid of them! I don’t want them back!

@Beautiful3

I wouldn't drive an 80 minute all round trip to return a jam jar!!! I'd return it when you see them next Christmas. To be fair this happened to me too. A lady in work was selling homemade lemon curd in jars with bows on. They weren't cheap, many of us bought them to gift away. After the Christmas holidays, we recieved an email, requesting the jars back!! She was super annoyed when we said we had gifted them on, and unable to do so. Your relative could have just reused clean jam jars instead of buying those fancy looking kilner jars.
Haha so she charged for the hoard, and then wanted the jars back? Hilarious.

I've made jam for years and I give it away as presents. I have never, EVER asked for a jar back. Ditto bottles that have had liqueurs in etc.

Granted, I buy jars in bulk at £5-for-12 from Wilko or Hobbycraft but even if I'd used stupidly expensive nicer ones I wouldn't dream of asking for them back.

Your relative is a loon, OP.

When I made jams for people, I simply said that if they wanted rid of the jar when empty, I'd be happy to take them back. I got some back, not all, and considered each one a bonus as I'd factored the jar as part of the gift.
