To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!

£84 Shock

DD has asked for one for Christmas - she is 11 and still believes in Santa so she has put it on her Santa list as her main present.

I can’t quite bring myself to buy one at that price. I see they sometimes do deals so would wait until there was a deal.

But even still!!

Are they worth the price? Do they wash well?

DD is tall so she is in between kids and adult sizes. I think buying a kids one might be a hit of a waste, judging by the size of the kids in the pics.

Why is it ok to be classist? I don’t get it. You aren’t supposed to be sexist, racist or ageist, but you can be classist?!

Crystalglass · 17/10/2021 19:20

Haha I’m pretty sure people from all walks of life spend their money on things that other people refer to as “pointless expensive shite”

It’s subjective isn’t it.

Decided to go for the Kuddly in the end. Got a good deal - 2 for £88. Treated myself to one gang DH can wrap up for Xmas!

They seem to get good reviews overall. Thanks everyone!

I got a kudd.ly and an Amazon £20 one. I sent the kuddly back. It was lovely, but I didn't have the extra money spare. Especially when my two daughters wanted one each! So I got us all the fake ones.
My eldest loves hers, she always has it on.
Mine is fab when I take the dog outside to the garden for a wee. They're great to warm up in - I still haven't put my heating on, windows are still open and we are still all warm enough in our fake oodies!

xxlostxx · 18/10/2021 23:56

Grin ads for the official oodies all over this thread in case anyone was unsure what they were or where to buy Grin I've not been arsed to click but 50% off is being dangled like a carrot!!

phishy · 19/10/2021 00:41

I think they would be too warm. If only they were made with natural fibres, not polyester.

‘But what makes Oodies (and other hooded blanket brands) soft and warm is a wool-like material called fleece. While it can sometimes be made of cotton or acrylic, fleece is most often made of polyester. This synthetic fibre commonly derived from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) — the same plastic used to make water bottles — makes Oodies bad news for oceans.’

Success. I bought a Kuddly earlier this year after reading a comparison review that said they were slightly nicer than Oodies.

It does seem very nice quality although I haven't worn it that much as the weather warmed up and I haven't washed it yet.

Oodies and similar are always on a deal and there's absolutely no need to pay the 'full price' like Domino's pizza or DFS sofas. It's never intended to pay that much, they just want you to panic into buying before the deal ends even though there's always a new one straight away.

DrGoogleSaysSo · 19/10/2021 03:55

I'm getting the Amazon ones too as they have good reviews and do the job.

TheWestIsTheBest · 19/10/2021 04:08

I bought myself one in the offer with the weighted blanket, I think it was 40% discount (surely no-one pays full price as there are always offers on?). Anyway, best buy ever, although I then had to buy everyone else one too as they kept stealing it! I didn't mind when I saw how much our power bill went down over winter though, they paid for themselves. I'm only sad now its spring here in Oz and far too warm to wear them for at least 8 months. I've washed them on cool cycle but I'm too scared to tumble dry, and they are like trying to dry a bloody wet sheep, so I am curious to hear of those who have tumble-dried them without melting.

JenniferWooley · 19/10/2021 07:04

@TheWestIsTheBest I tumble dry ours & they're fine I just bung it in & shove it on the towel setting then hang up to air as the cuffs tend to still be damp. I don't even use the hand wash setting on the washing machine just the usual 40 wash.

DD's guinea pigs snuggle in her pocket so it gets a bit grotty/smelly & needs a proper wash!

Mermaid2007 · 21/10/2021 17:32

Ordered a Disney Stitch oversized hoodie from Amazon that arrived today for my DD, it's lovely, really nice quality £24.99. Obviously not a genuine 'Oodie' but a good choice as a cheaper alternative!

OhCobblers · 19/11/2021 19:20

@Crystalglass and anyone else still interested - I saw some adult ones (good for tall teens?) in Typo this week for around £42 (haven't checked the thread to see if this store has already been mentioned!).

BigYellowHat · 20/11/2021 19:44

They’re currently on there for £59 if that helps

Coldilox · 20/11/2021 19:48

I have a real Oodie, and we have a fake Oodie in the house too. No comparison, the real one is so much thicker and fluffier. I love it (wearing it right now).

They usually have offers on, like £25 off or whatever.

We’ll worth the money.

Ibleedibreedibreaatfeed · 21/11/2021 18:12

I went into Primark to see what their version is like. Very disappointing thin and can't seem them washing well. The "men's" version was slightly better made though. Tempted by the kuddly offer though!

Tontu · 21/11/2021 18:55

DD has a lovely oversized hoody from Next, that was about £20. She wears it to and from swimming.

Tontu · 21/11/2021 18:58

Doubt it's as thick as an oodie, but she loves it. Unlikely she'd tolerate an actual oodie for 5 mins, as she'd be over hot.

ImInStealthMode · 21/11/2021 19:01

Oodie have some Black Friday deals on now. £59 which still isn't cheap but better than £84!!

NotJustACigar · 24/11/2021 16:09

I have the Primark one and it's warm enough that I was comfortable working from home without the heat on today - then checked the thermostat and it was 15 degrees! I'm thinking about getting another one in a plain grey colour (maybe a real Oodie) as I think I may be able to get away with it on video calls. With my Primark one I will definitely not be able to wear it when I have meetings that's for sure.

Hesma · 24/11/2021 20:51

I have kuddly ones for me and my kids, bought after Christmas and got all 3 adult sized for £124

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 24/11/2021 21:32

Dd has a fake one I got on Amazon and a cheap one from Primark with sloths all over. Both super soft warm and wash beautifully.

peaceanddove · 24/11/2021 22:14

We bought both our DDs the original Oodie as their Christmas Eve present last year. Think we paid about £60 each for them? They've been worth every penny, wash brilliantly. DD2's boyfriend has one of the fake ones and it's nowhere near as thick as DD's and is only about half the weight.

I've got a Primark one, it's definitely thinner (not a lined like Oodies) but honestly, it's still very warm, mega soft and a good length - I think I'd probably be too warm in a lined one having worn this.

Haven't washed it yet (was a gift this week from my mum!) but fleecy stuff, especially cheap ones, can be hit and miss in the wash so we'll see...

HeyHeyer · 23/11/2022 21:48

I always think of fleece as being very flammable - is this still the case with this type of thing? Are the sleeves awkward? they're so big!
