To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!

£84 Shock

DD has asked for one for Christmas - she is 11 and still believes in Santa so she has put it on her Santa list as her main present.

I can’t quite bring myself to buy one at that price. I see they sometimes do deals so would wait until there was a deal.

But even still!!

Are they worth the price? Do they wash well?

DD is tall so she is in between kids and adult sizes. I think buying a kids one might be a hit of a waste, judging by the size of the kids in the pics.

I’m 99% sure she doesn’t and is just playing it out to get more Christmas presents!

If she really does then Unless she has additional needs, you need to break it to her soon. If she starts high school and let’s the other kids know, she will get ripped to shreds.

This page has loads of Oodie discount codes - yes, this actual page.

To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!

I've just bought some from studio for £29.99 each, they are very big, warm and thick, can't comment on how they wash as they are Christmas presents, but I do wish I'd bought one for myself

Tractordiggerdump · 16/10/2021 18:58

Dunelm £15.99 if they still have any.

Wannakisstheteacher · 16/10/2021 18:58

DD (11) got one for her birthday. She adores it. I would say it was definitely one the better purchases we’ve made for her recently (these tween years are so hard to get right!)

HarlanPepper · 16/10/2021 18:58

@Wazzzzzzzup

It's an oversized jumper, of course it won't cover feet...
It's a 'wearable blanket' according to the website. If I'm cold enough to need a fleecy blanket, I want full coverage.
SageRosemary · 16/10/2021 18:59

It's not supposed to cover your feet - so you can walk in it without it being a trip hazard. But you can tuck your feet in under it on the sofa.

The Woollie is a cheaper alternative to The Oodie and this is what Santa brought my teenagers last Christmas. Was great for online classes. This is an Irish link so if you access the website from the UK you will probably get cheaper sterling prices. I prefer the plain colours too.

@Crystalglass I think your DD may be asking for an "Oodie" but would be open to the idea of any hooded blanket. Even Marks & Spencer are doing hooded blankets, not quite the same style but worth a look.

A Woolie/Hoodie is HUGE = Adult x 6XL so it might drown your 11 year old if she is normal/small for her age.

Here's a link to where I got one for my niece lately, adult sizes are currently sold out but I'm sure they will be back

Wazzzzzzzup · 16/10/2021 19:00

Tbf @HarlanPepper yeah it says it. I think that's because it is long so you can cirl up into it? I can fully rolled up into mine and "close the bottom" and I am fat🙈

SylvanasWindrunner · 16/10/2021 19:02

It covers most of your legs when you're on the sofa! I curl up in mine to work on my laptop in the evenings and my feet tuck inside. It's super cosy but hideously unattractive. Luckily I don't care about being attractive in my house, just cosy Grin

PrtScn · 16/10/2021 19:02

Surely a dressing gown is the same thing.

Crystalglass · 16/10/2021 19:03

She genuinely does believe in Santa. I assume this will be her last year, as it’s also her last year of primary school. We live in a small village and I feel her whole year group are quite young - very sheltered!! But, yes I agree that we will tell her after Christmas if she doesn’t find out before then.

She only asks for 4 gifts so she isn’t doing it for more presents - our Santa letters nave something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.

The Oodie is her “something I want” as she also wants “trendy clothes” Grin which basically means leggings, t shirts and slightly cropped hoodies.

All of my ads are now Oodies, even on Facebook 🙄

@AliceinBorderland

But if your daughter wants it, not a lot you can do about that if it's on her Christmas list

What?!

Parents are allowed to tell their children no to spending a large sum of money on anything. Including a polyester blanket.

Yeah of course parents can. But op specifically mentions that it's on the list for Santa and she still believes in Santa, it's a bit more difficult if she thinks elves are making it!! Maybe that's how you could get away with buying a non branded cheaper alternative though 😂 - I told my son that elves can't make playstations as they are too complicated !!

They are always on offer, I bought the grey one at the start of this year and love it. I bought the Kuddly one in blue the other week, it's probably a bit longer than my Oodie but it's nowhere near as thick imo. I much prefer the Oodie and wouldn't buy the Kuddly again. I have seen reviews that some Oodies are thinner than others though, especially the tie-dye ones

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 16/10/2021 19:05

They are currently on offer for £59. Bought them for DD7 and DF74 Grin

beela · 16/10/2021 19:05

I bought ds one of the amazon ones for his 11th birthday, I think it was about £20. He loves it. I'm not sure what else we could expect from one that cost 4x as much.

Crystalglass · 16/10/2021 19:06

Thanks BTW for all of the other brand suggestions and links…will look at them all over the next couple of days.

Madness!!

HotelCaliforniaOnRepeat · 16/10/2021 19:07

@Crystalglass we have one of each, if we got a third one it would be the kuddly over the oodie.
It's less bulky but very warm. Paid £49 each for them a year ago and they've saved me more than that in heating costs.

I’ve just read a review that said The Oodie was a close second, but its quality doesn’t stand up to kuddly™

Aaarrgghhh!!

My son is a tall 9 yo and has an adult oodie. It didn't actually arrive in time for Christmas - shipping times were crazy - but he absolutely loves it and although I was dubious about the price it's one of his best presents ever. He has loved all the family trying it on too. We have washed it loads and it still looks great. The fleece on the inside might have clumped a bit though but it doesn't affect it. He never wears it to eat though as he's too worried about it getting dirty!

Excellent thank you. I wonder if maybe don’t want it to be quite as warm anyway - and they are cheaper just now.

Are they worth the price? Do they wash well?

Yes, ish - however don’t pay full, price, there’s loads of discounts, not least on their own site. And yes, they do wash well. They’re very soft, double layered and well made and very, very warm. I got four, one for each of us, last Christmas (got a deal so they were roughly GBP39 each). However, due to delays in shipping cos of COVID, they gave me an extra GBP30 off for the inconvenience - their customer service is really good btw. I got a knock version for my nieces and nephews Christmas pressies (I’ve got nine, I’m not made of money Grin), and though they were nice enough, they we’re definitely not as good.

I’m really glad we got them because this year, as the price of gas goes through the roof, I’ll be relying on a combination of the Aga at one end of the house and an open fire at the other, and all of us in our Oodies in between, instead of putting the heating on (I’ve bought us all really thick socks too Grin).

JenniferWooley · 16/10/2021 19:11

@NotExactlyHappyToHelp

DS has an official one and I have a cheapy knockoff. The official one is very lovely I must say and he lives in it. I don’t know if it’s £30 more lovely than mine though.

The thing that annoyed me about it is they suggest hand washing it in delicate detergent and strictly no tumble drying so it’s a pain to clean. I’ve a handwash function on my washing machine thank god but it comes out so bloody heavy. It annoys me how precious it is Hmm. My cheapy one washes normally and goes in the dryer. The Oodie might too but I’m not gambling on it given the price.

I put ours in the dryer & no harm has come to them so far - still need to air it out so the cuffs dry properly though.

OP my kids love theirs & live in them, I hate mine & very rarely use it as it's too bulky & I feel like I'm suffocating in it.
