To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!

£84 Shock

DD has asked for one for Christmas - she is 11 and still believes in Santa so she has put it on her Santa list as her main present.

I can’t quite bring myself to buy one at that price. I see they sometimes do deals so would wait until there was a deal.

But even still!!

Are they worth the price? Do they wash well?

DD is tall so she is in between kids and adult sizes. I think buying a kids one might be a hit of a waste, judging by the size of the kids in the pics.

I didn't know what one even was until five seconds ago when I googled. £80 for a loud polyester poncho? No thanks.

reluctantbrit · 16/10/2021 18:26

DD had one and lived in it during lockdown and got it out a couple of weeks ago.

I thin it washes well, takes ages to dry though. I wouldn’t get an 11 year old a kids one, it will stay with her for several years, at that price she can grow into it.

DD has to take it off for eating, the sleeves are thick and can be in the way.

I am sure there are others out there, it’s like the Chilly water bottle, first brand with a great idea and now lots are on the market.

Mulhollandmagoo · 16/10/2021 18:30

Amazon and primark do their own versions that look very very similar and are much cheaper. Dunelm also do a version but they don't have the patterns on, so they're just a plain colour

eternalopt · 16/10/2021 18:31

My DH bought me one as I love a blanket. I hated it and got him to send it back when I saw the price! Really bulky to sit around it and doesn't cover your feet so no substitute for a blanket! But if your daughter wants it, not a lot you can do about that if it's on her Christmas list. DH paid £59 though, not £85. As others have said, there's always offers on. They are already down to £59 on their website for an early Black Friday! They can take ages to come so get on it soon

To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!
Wazzzzzzzup · 16/10/2021 18:32

Primark apparently has great one for about 17. I am of course testing it ASAP😂
I git some similar from Amazon for 20 and i am very sad when it goes in a wash and I mist be without for a day

BritWifeInUSA · 16/10/2021 18:33

$74 on the US site. That’s still a lot for what it is.

BananaPB · 16/10/2021 18:34

There are fake ones available at Next, Primark etc I wouldn't pay full price either

SylvanasWindrunner · 16/10/2021 18:34

They're always on special offer. Mine was £54 I think or something. I love it! But there are plenty of cheaper versions that have decent reviews.

DuvetDayIsEveryDay · 16/10/2021 18:35

Kidd.ly are an alternative brand and imo better than the Oodie (ds has the Oodie). The Kidd.ly washes better and is longer.

I've bought 4 as Christmas gifts this year. Cost £37 each.

Llioed · 16/10/2021 18:35

I LOVE mine! Got it at a reduced price though (30% off) but it got used so much over the last winter, and I’m wearing it again today, now the temperature has dropped a bit. Mine washes well. My DD6 actually climbs inside too and we sit and snuggle together ❤️ (It’s huge!)

LooksBetterWithAFaceMask · 16/10/2021 18:35

Dd (18) has an Amazon fake and absolutely loves it. I don’t think I could pay even £59 for one.

gogohm · 16/10/2021 18:35

Get a fake one from Amazon, does the same job without a label on it

OhCobblers · 16/10/2021 18:36

Surely that's the same as The Comfy by Shark?? Get it from Costco for about £20???

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 16/10/2021 18:38

DS has an official one and I have a cheapy knockoff. The official one is very lovely I must say and he lives in it. I don’t know if it’s £30 more lovely than mine though.

The thing that annoyed me about it is they suggest hand washing it in delicate detergent and strictly no tumble drying so it’s a pain to clean. I’ve a handwash function on my washing machine thank god but it comes out so bloody heavy. It annoys me how precious it is Hmm. My cheapy one washes normally and goes in the dryer. The Oodie might too but I’m not gambling on it given the price.

Bimblybomeyelash · 16/10/2021 18:39

I don’t get it. My house must be abnormally warm because I can’t imagine wearing that anywhere but camping on a cold night.

AliceinBorderland · 16/10/2021 18:41

What?!

Parents are allowed to tell their children no to spending a large sum of money on anything. Including a polyester blanket.

Bettyboopawoop · 16/10/2021 18:42

The online home shop have them starting at £8

HarlanPepper · 16/10/2021 18:45

@Bimblybomeyelash

And, as a previous poster pointed out, it doesn't even cover your feet? what is the point of that.
Crystalglass · 16/10/2021 18:50

Thanks all…more than happy to get a copy version if it’s as good…my worry is that they are rubbish.

I see I can get one for £59 just now. Still a lot of money!

Yes I can influence her Christmas list. If any of the DC put something ridiculous on I tell them they can’t ask Santa for that! The problem with DD this year is that she doesn’t need anything really. It’s one of those years where she has a bike / scooter, doesn’t need any devices as the ones she has are adequate, and she isn’t at an age for a new phone etc yet. Although some kids in her class are getting phones. She will be inheriting our old phones for years to come!!

So I don’t mind buying her one if she ones one but if the fakes are as good, then a fake it shall be!!

Hand washing sounds a pain in the backside though…I deliberately don’t buy any clothes that are hand wash only, and I don’t intend on hand washing anything an Oodie! But at £59 I wouldn’t want to ruin it either.

Another brand - Kuddly is recommended online. Wondering what they are like?

Wazzzzzzzup · 16/10/2021 18:50

It's an oversized jumper, of course it won't cover feet...

Oh I must have been writing my post when you replied!

Yes saw those ones and considered them - £44 if you buy 2 at the moment. Would buy one for myself. Although we have a wood burning stove so I’m not sure I would get wear out of it, except maybe for glamping / camping.

Would be handy if we keep the heating off and the fire on though! But couldn’t wear it in the living room with the fire as I cook already

Crystalglass · 16/10/2021 18:53

@DuvetDayIsEveryDay do you have a Kiddly too to compare?

esloquehay · 16/10/2021 18:54

I'm more shocked by an 11 year old still believing in Father Christmas! 🤯😂

GoWalkabout · 16/10/2021 18:55

I'm getting a 50% off Oodie advert on this thread Grin

Peanutsandchilli · 16/10/2021 18:55

My 13 year old has an £18 one and she loves it. I nearly fell off my seat when I saw the price of the branded ones. Absolutely not worth the cost for a child imo.
