To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!

£84 Shock

DD has asked for one for Christmas - she is 11 and still believes in Santa so she has put it on her Santa list as her main present.

I can’t quite bring myself to buy one at that price. I see they sometimes do deals so would wait until there was a deal.

But even still!!

Are they worth the price? Do they wash well?

DD is tall so she is in between kids and adult sizes. I think buying a kids one might be a hit of a waste, judging by the size of the kids in the pics.

No they wash terribly. It’s basically like giving two fingers up to the ocean. I’m sure your daughter would prefer to have babies that don’t have stomachs full of micro plastics

I’ve washed mine and DD’s Oodie, many times over two years, on 40 degrees. They have washed fine. I’ve tumble dried them too. No problem 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Ghoulette

So it's like a dressing gown, but without the ability to have it open?
It’s a massive fluffy hoodie

It was on my DDs Christmas list this year too so I bought one (purple tie dye) and have had it a couple of weeks. It was £54 with discount code and I got her a pair of the jogging bottoms which were only £19 too. I could have got a cheaper brand but I'd rather get exactly what she wants for Christmas, for the sake of only saving £20 or so.

FatBettyintheCoop · 16/10/2021 20:40

I made something similar for DS last Christmas (11yrs) and he wore it through the winter months and his friends all wanted one too.

Wazzzzzzzup · 16/10/2021 20:41

Re the polyester etc plastic. It ain't gonna get better. Companies are moving away from animal products and the god forsaken sherpa lining is now in so many shoes instead of sheep. Leather is changing to that plastic alternative too often. Handbags etc.

However, I have to say that even with my superjumper, I still own less fleece than when I was growing up. Basically none now.

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 16/10/2021 20:46

Get signed up on the website and you get discount codes emailed to you you. It'll still be £60 odd quid which is eye watering

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 16/10/2021 20:49

I got DD from kuddly and is great

Kljnmw3459 · 16/10/2021 20:50

All the oodi adverts now eagerly popping up on this page (mobile) Grin

Wheelz46 · 16/10/2021 21:00

Mine asked for some, made my eyes water when I saw the price.

I bought this one, it's so fluffy and comfortable and a fraction of the price of the oodies. I can't imagine the £84 oodie being much more comfier than my one.

Florrieboo · 16/10/2021 21:03

I bought them for two of my kids last Christmas and they love them, so much that I bought 3 more during the year for the rest of us. I prefer the genuine ones, any of the other ones I have seen just don't seem as comfortable or as soft.
My 9 year old DD wears an adult size a childs one would have been a waste for her.

SparklingLime · 16/10/2021 21:07

The Oodie’s customer service last Christmas when they had supply issues was appalling. Stopped answering the phones, no warning on website of delays, awful fake-chirpy standard replies to queries, if you got a reply. Arrived over a month later than forecast delivery date. I wouldn’t buy from them again.

I think the point wasn't how well the garment held up to washing - but the distructive impact washing them and releasing the microplastic has on the oceans and world.
minimecantrollerskate · 16/10/2021 21:10

I bought a purple Friends one last year using Christmas money and I love it, it’s so warm and fluffy.

I only wear it when it’s really cold and I’m sat on the sofa in the evening so it doesn’t need washing too often. I have a lovely Primark fluffy blanket for my legs too so very toasty.

It’s great quality and so warm.

The price is horrendous but it was a special treat.

My DD also still believed at 11.

Oodies are totally worth the money. Me, Dd and DS all
Have one and we love them! Fake ones are not as hood!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 16/10/2021 21:19

Good even

Hatsuma · 16/10/2021 21:19

I’d be sweating like a smackhead in a chemist in one of them. Doesn’t appeal at all.

wejammin · 16/10/2021 21:20

I got a 'proper' oodie last October and I totally adore it. So did my kids who kept stealing it so for Christmas they both got one, but I couldn't afford official ones and they will grow out of the kids ones, so I bought Amazon versions. They're fine but they are definitely not as soft and not as thick as an oodie.

I wash mine in the machine (it has a microplastics filter before I get slated for destroying the planet) and it's been fine.

It also reduces my heating bills as I never have to turn the thermostat up on a cold evening.

The kids take theirs camping, and even to the beach to put on after swimming. They have, occasionally, worn them round the supermarket, but I have bigger hills to die on so I pretended not to care.

Washinglinewench29 · 16/10/2021 21:20

Dunelm have some lovely ones if they ever get them back in stock. Teddy fleece too

Aworldofmyown · 16/10/2021 21:21

I bought Kuddly ones - they are lovely and can be tumble dried.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 16/10/2021 21:27

What in hell is an oodie

Branleuse · 16/10/2021 21:34

Ive got a kuddly. Ds1 has an Oodie snd i think theyre both fab. I do think thryre overpriced though and ive seen on amazon and ebay some of the cheaper ones have got cool prints too now and people say theyre good too. It was a real gamechanger for me last winter as i get very cold and my house is hard to heat

Luckytattie · 16/10/2021 21:36

I got given one from my PIL.
It's not really my thing and its 100% polyester..
I'm shocked it's so expensive
