To be shocked at the price of an Oodie?!

£84 Shock

DD has asked for one for Christmas - she is 11 and still believes in Santa so she has put it on her Santa list as her main present.

I can’t quite bring myself to buy one at that price. I see they sometimes do deals so would wait until there was a deal.

But even still!!

Are they worth the price? Do they wash well?

DD is tall so she is in between kids and adult sizes. I think buying a kids one might be a hit of a waste, judging by the size of the kids in the pics.

Got one for myself for £20 and its amazing, huge and comfy. Got one for my daughter about the same price, you can get them in primark too

Inthesameboatatmo · 16/10/2021 19:56

I've got a 20 quid one from amazon and it does the job , oodies are hardly fashion more functionality imo.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 16/10/2021 19:57

YANBU OP.

I thought exactly the same thing and I am not tight when it comes to spending money.

I will quite happily go on using DH's very snuggly and supersoft dressing gown!

forinborin · 16/10/2021 19:58

I ordered an exact copy of an oodie from aliexpress. No regrets.

Vickim03 · 16/10/2021 19:59

I splurged and got me and the kids one each. They are all one size. It will never be grown out of, so to me it’s worth it over spending lots of money on several dressing gowns. I live in mine as I’m a cold person. I agree they are pricey. They do wash well and the massive pocket on the front is useful.

cansu · 16/10/2021 20:00

here's an idea - buy a fleece blanket for 20 quid. Unbelievable that people are paying 84.oo for a blanket with arm holes.!

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 16/10/2021 20:02

I've got a 'The Comfy'.
You can get them on Amazon. They are around £35 I think.

The fact they won’t ever be grown out of is appealing actually - I don’t mind spending more if they last a few years.

Oh we already have plenty of those! We love a blanket. Have a pile in the living room that are used every day. By me and the kids. DH doesn’t bother unless it’s freezing.

I think they like the idea of being able to wear it.

I have a poncho type thing from Tesco that I’ve worn for years and understand the appeal as it’s very cosy. Not as cosy as an Oodie type one though

I bought 241 Oodies the other day as Christmas gifts and they are nice and soft, but I actually prefer the £17 one I got from Dunnes stores.

Heres the link for the offer. Only a couple of patterns available

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 16/10/2021 20:08

Fancy cheaper ones for the kids for Christmas now!

BuckEmOrf · 16/10/2021 20:08

That doesn't make sense 😕

billy1966 · 16/10/2021 20:08

I bought 4 for Christmas and paid £25 quid on amazon.

Not a chance I would pay that ever.

It was this one here, price gone up a bit but my niece has a real oodie and I don’t see much difference at all! Soft Plush Hoodie Blanket Oversized Sherpa Sweatshirt Warm Fleece Blanket Hoodie for Women Men amazon.co.uk/dp/B08N9TZD1W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_GJZT5DD6CAB5ANJ1K1YT]]

Ghoulette · 16/10/2021 20:15

I don't get it? Why not just buy any fleecy, garish hoodie in 3 sizes to large for a 10er?

INeedToBuyaZoo · 16/10/2021 20:16

Why thank you.

Now, we have three in the house. I love in mine during the winter months, I mean from the minute I get home from school run to when I go to bed. It keeps me very warm. It's longer than the "copies" on Amazon which I prefer. I wash one and wear the spare one. My son has a pink one with cats on which he lives in. I think I stopped living it in April. I did have a cheaper one but it shrunk

ProcrastinationIsMySuperPower · 16/10/2021 20:16

@esloquehay

I'm more shocked by an 11 year old still believing in Father Christmas! 🤯😂
My just-turned 11 year old does. But I think she may be too scared to question it for fear of getting less presents!
Ghoulette · 16/10/2021 20:17

So it's like a dressing gown, but without the ability to have it open?

Domino20 · 16/10/2021 20:22

We have a real one and a fake. There's a noticeable difference in material thickness and length. I get stuck with the fake and my son wears the real one almost every day. I've got another on order for this Christmas. As others have said, never pay full price, discounts are frequent. Also, make sure you check shipping dates, lots of the patterns are on a preorder basis with lengthy shipping times so if it's a Christmas present you need to start looking to order soon.

[quote LittleLottieChaos]No they wash terribly. It’s basically like giving two fingers up to the ocean. I’m sure your daughter would prefer to have babies that don’t have stomachs full of micro plastics.

The girl is 11! Far too young to have babies, whether or not their stomachs are full of microplastics or not.
