Cleaning emergency

Posting for traffic and liberal use of the word emergency here but DH put DD colouring book on our wet kitchen table and it’s left a huge stain and I can’t get it out. The kitchen table is white plastic from harveys. I’ll upload a picture. Anyone know how to get stains out of the table or do I have to toss it and DH in the bin?

This is the sort of mark I would use high alcohol hand gel for.

Pop a 5p size blob on the fringe of the stain. Rub it thoughtfully with index finger, circular motion, not rubbing hard, just a small area , maybe the size of a 50p piece. Wipe after 5 mins, have a look, what do you think?

ladygracie · 11/10/2021 20:04

I am sorry about your emergency OP but I am loving the instruction to “rub it thoughtfully” That has really made me smile.

Gladioli23 · 11/10/2021 20:08

I have success with tomato stains on a tablecloth by spraying and then crucially leaving to sit flash spray with bleach. Seems to work even if I have forgotten it for several days but it does need to contain bleach.

I’ve tried rubbing alcohol and it’s not coming out.

Would this legitimately being unreasonable behaviour for a divorce… I’m so angry

Perhaps a mild abrasive like Cif cream. Not sure if that would ruin the finish though, so would probably try the alcohol first.

Bigeggsinapackoften · 11/10/2021 20:10

I would try the green flash spray if you can get it or one of the cleaning block sponge eraser things like a Duzzit rubber (you can get them on Amazon I think)

Ahhhhhbisto · 11/10/2021 20:11

White spirit.

Ahhhhhbisto · 11/10/2021 20:12

Followed by soapy water. Then enjoy the lingering smell for weeks!

amylou8 · 11/10/2021 20:12

IPA/rubbing alcohol (hand gel isn't strong enough), acetone nail polish remover or WD40. One of these will get most things off a hard surface.

CombatBarbie · 11/10/2021 20:12

Hairspray??

Glovesandscarf · 11/10/2021 20:12

Is it a high shine finish? If not I might try a light scouring agent like pink stuff or bar keepers friend.
Or you could try different things on different areas of the stain.
Try a pencil eraser. Or an ink eraser pen might be worth a go, also leaving it out in the sun if there is any where you live.
I have a similar stain on the bath and will let you know if anything shifts it.

FeelinSpendy · 11/10/2021 20:15

Flash spray with bleach. Get tea, red wine and ribena stains out of my porous white worktop. Careful it doesn’t splash on your clothes though - I’ve ruined a couple of tops that way!

AnathemaPulsifer · 11/10/2021 20:17

I’ve used neat bleach on stains on my worktop.

Sleeplessem · 11/10/2021 20:17

I’ve tried rubbing alcohol, not budged it at all, I’ll try and find some wd40 and nail polish remover. Thought for a mo I’d be ok as I got an additional warranty from harveys but they’ve apparently gone bust 😩.

It’s a high gloss finish so can’t use anything to scratch it…

We have a white gloss table and have had the same thing. We've found spraying elbow grease and leaving for five mins before dabbing off works. Those white magic erasers also are great

charliebear78 · 11/10/2021 20:20

If you don't rub it thoughtfully it won't come out!

RoseDog · 11/10/2021 20:21

If you do get the stain out or a new table get a wipeable tablecloth, I just embraced having kids and got brightly coloured patterned ones but you do get more muted ones!

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2021 20:21

All the better if you can get it out, and I'm seriously not being horrible here, but I deliberately bought a kitchen table when DC were young that I didn't mind getting marked as it's a bit 'par for the course', eg banging forks prongs down on the table, (which did happen once they started to use non-plastic cutlery.)

WhatsitWiggle · 11/10/2021 20:22

I use bleach for any stains on my high gloss bathroom work surface (DD and very bright/dark gloss lipstick usually), just a dab on a cloth then wipe over and repeat until it's no longer visible.

mineofuselessinformation · 11/10/2021 20:24

Oh, and, the hand gel is a good call - rubbing alcohol will evaporate too quickly to do anything. Or, the bleach-based sprays. (Although I can't tell you I know they won't mark the surface.)

Is it the warranty or the care and protect insurance? If the latter you can probably still claim www.pwc.co.uk/services/business-restructuring/administrations/blue-group/blue-group-customers.html

YABVU
Your poor DH and DD!
Take a step back, breath and acknowledge how lovely that your DD and DH do that lovely activity together. Not all DC can draw, so don't discourage it, but appreciate how lucky you are.
It will come out - there are a lot of different methods and advice on the internet.

peony68 · 11/10/2021 20:24

astonish or pink stuff paste

gamerchick · 11/10/2021 20:25

Magic sponge?
