Cleaning emergency

Posting for traffic and liberal use of the word emergency here but DH put DD colouring book on our wet kitchen table and it’s left a huge stain and I can’t get it out. The kitchen table is white plastic from harveys. I’ll upload a picture. Anyone know how to get stains out of the table or do I have to toss it and DH in the bin?

@Anonymice1

A glass table covered in fingerprints is not nice. We don’t even have small children, but gave our glass table away after a couple of months. Couldn’t stand it. Now we have one of those tables you can scratch hard with a nail, and it just comes off. And you can put a hot pan down straight on the table. I love this table!
I’ve not heard of this sort of table but it sounds, dare I say it, husband proof.

Is it one you could link? @Anonymice1

@Sleeplessem I’m not in the UK. Ours is called edge, will try and attach photos. Our cat tried to jump up (she knows she’s not supposed to) and I could just wipe the scratches off with my hand. It’s great.

I'm annoyed you tried to clean it off before I posted about the Astonish product.
Completely irrational I know. Smile

BeMoreQueer · 12/10/2021 18:58

Do people really throw out a whole table because it has a mark on it?

When their kids are small enough to use colouring books?

Your house isn’t supposed to be immaculate when you’ve got kids, they’re supposed to feel comfortable enough to play without fear of a massive kick off if they mark something

One day your kids will move out and you can have an immaculate house but until then calm down

Wowwe · 12/10/2021 20:11

Cillit bang mould spray (black bottle) it’s brilliant …

I’d be annoyed too.

If it makes you feel better, I’ll probably buy astonish for future spills/ stains

Don’t worry my table, is still here and will live to fight another day as the stain faded enough to the point it’s not a massive pink splodge.

Can’t lie to you though, stains and chunks out of things does really upset me. DH dropped water on our laminate and a piece of it bubbled and I did contemplate lifting the whole floor to fix it, but I’ve left it, the bubbling keeps looking at me though. I’ve always taken care of my things so it lasts me for year and years (decade even). My 2 year old knows drinks always go on a coaster though and spills get cleaned up. X

I would try hair spray or the pink stuff paste

QuestionableMouse · 12/10/2021 22:46

How about putting some contact paper over it? I did with my desk a while ago and it worked really well to refresh it.

Honestly - don't sweat the small stuff ! We all make mistakes. He wasn't to know this would happen - it was an accident.
Poor man.

Bigsighall · 13/10/2021 07:15

Try toilet cleaner. Don’t know why it works but I use it on stuff like this and it seems to work!

Don’t! It probably contains bleach and the OP has already used that (and it left a yellow stain)
EmeraldShamrock · 13/10/2021 07:31

Flash spray. My DS coloured my white pvc window frame in green marker it worked.

Use a table cloth over it.

This wouldn't bother me, mine was covered in paint and markers by the time I replaced it and passed it onto another young family.

ichifanny · 13/10/2021 07:43

Pink stuff works on mine , it’s not as high shine anymore as my daughter keeps penning it but I just buff it up a bit .

I feel a bit sorry for DH.
I'm naturally clumsy I cause accidents and don't have a great attention span.
I fix it but make silly mistakes.
Especially plate and cup dropping. Grin
My worse nightmare would be to live with some precise and organised.
I done it for years living with Dad and young sister it was mentally draining.

You are not compatible either give him a break or split up.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 13/10/2021 07:49

@Redarrow2017

Just get a nice oilcloth table covering
This. Absolutely essential for family use.

Ahh @EmeraldShamrock it’s not a real MN thread until someone says ‘DIVORCE’ over the most trivial of reasons.

Thanks for completing the thread!

It sounds like he is on eggshells naturally clumsy possibly learnt behaviour from childhood while you are critical with higher standards.
Not compatible

You’re right! I’m a mega bitch and he’s an oaf. It’s doomed. 7 years of marriage done in over a toilet seat and a kitchen table. You reckon I can put that on the paper work *@EmeraldShamrock*? Will it affect custody of the kids?

I'd just chuck a table cloth over it
