Cleaning emergency

Posting for traffic and liberal use of the word emergency here but DH put DD colouring book on our wet kitchen table and it’s left a huge stain and I can’t get it out. The kitchen table is white plastic from harveys. I’ll upload a picture. Anyone know how to get stains out of the table or do I have to toss it and DH in the bin?

I’d agree with bleach.

Sleeplessem · 11/10/2021 20:26

@mineofuselessinformation

All the better if you can get it out, and I'm seriously not being horrible here, but I deliberately bought a kitchen table when DC were young that I didn't mind getting marked as it's a bit 'par for the course', eg banging forks prongs down on the table, (which did happen once they started to use non-plastic cutlery.)
The kids are one thing, i hadnt bargained on DH being the destroyer of tables 😢

I would not use nail varnish remover...some of it touched the plastic handle of my nail clipper and made the plastic go weird and tacky. I wouldn't risk it on your table.

DreadingItBadly · 11/10/2021 20:28

Dettol Mould and Mildew Remover - the green spray. We have the same table and it cleans off everything, just like that

teaandbagels · 11/10/2021 20:30

The pink stuff will get this off.

DotBall · 11/10/2021 20:30

I’d try a Magic sponge too.
They get all marks off our limestone fire surround without damage.

CheesyWeez · 11/10/2021 20:30

This might sound stupid but... daylight / sunlight? Leaving stuff in the sun gets stains out - I have speeded this up by shining my UV gel nail lights on a stain on the floorboards and it made it disappear. The stain I had was from pollen from lilies.

You could test this by recreating the colouring book stain on something else and doing tests on that.

I have a white table like yours and I would cry if it got a coloured stain on it. Don't let your DH rub it with a green scotch brite

FunnyInjury · 11/10/2021 20:30

Magic eraser will make light work of that OP. Add a spray of something to dampen the surface and wipe away Smile

Diversion · 11/10/2021 20:31

Make a paste with lemon juice and bicarb, leave it to sit for a bit and then rub it in. That might work or try toothpaste which is a very mild abrasive and might cause less issues than Cif.

MatildaTheCat · 11/10/2021 20:33

Magic sponge all the way.

suspiria777 · 11/10/2021 20:36

oxygen bleach

Washinglinewench29 · 11/10/2021 20:36

I once got biro on a handbag and the Internet said hairspray? Worth a try 😂

Topbird29 · 11/10/2021 20:37

I've had pen stains on an old melamine topped table before - the thing that worked was a flash kitchen spray with degreaser - yellow spray bottle. Got it for cooker grease splatter, but worked well.

Rolypolybabies · 11/10/2021 20:37

Try neat Milton and leave it on for a few hours.

Sunshine1066 · 11/10/2021 20:38

Chemico / the pink stuff (same thing i think) is perfect for stuff like this.

TheVolturi · 11/10/2021 20:39

Elbow grease spray! Honestly!

Somebodylikeyew · 11/10/2021 20:39

Bleach!

FlibbertyGiblets · 11/10/2021 20:40

Hope you can get the mark up using the recc products.

PS happy to have entertained people with the description. Grin

TooMinty · 11/10/2021 20:43

Haven't read the whole thread but what about those Magic Eraser things, think you can get them from Lakeland. We have a white kitchen island and it gets all marks out. Milton Fluid (or Poundland equivalent) also is good.

changeyourname · 11/10/2021 20:43

If you've got any hairspray try spraying the stain and wiping off with kitchen roll.

TheVolturi · 11/10/2021 20:44

@FlibbertyGiblets

This is the sort of mark I would use high alcohol hand gel for.

Pop a 5p size blob on the fringe of the stain. Rub it thoughtfully with index finger, circular motion, not rubbing hard, just a small area , maybe the size of a 50p piece. Wipe after 5 mins, have a look, what do you think?

If you don't rub it thoughtfully would it still work? 🤣🤣
INeedNewShoes · 11/10/2021 20:45

I've found baby wipes amazingly effective with things like this. Must be the citric acid I suppose.

My second option would be a spritz of Flash Kitchen with Bleach spray (don't know if it's still called that as haven't bought it for years) wiped off quickly with a white cloth. This stuff rescued the freshly painted Farrow & Ball walls in a brand new house that I rented as a houseshare after a party when I discovered a glass of red wine had been thrown down the wall (thinking about it years down the line, the stress has just come flooding back!)

Fraine · 11/10/2021 20:45

Is your H just sat on his arse whilst you try and sort it? Dick.

chesirecat99 · 11/10/2021 20:46

Test in an inconspicuous area before you use a Magic Sponge, they are abrasive. Actually, probably best to do that with anything.

White vinegar or sugar soap are other things you could try.

Sleeplessem · 11/10/2021 20:49

So far bleach, rubbing alcohol and wd40 haven’t touched it. The bleach has also left a yellow stain on the table. I could cry I’m so mad at ‘D’H
