Cleaning emergency

Posting for traffic and liberal use of the word emergency here but DH put DD colouring book on our wet kitchen table and it’s left a huge stain and I can’t get it out. The kitchen table is white plastic from harveys. I’ll upload a picture. Anyone know how to get stains out of the table or do I have to toss it and DH in the bin?

@purpletrees16

Ok just saw this. You now want to see if after a really good wash with lots of water if vanish Oxy powder or hydrogen peroxide will do anything to the yellow.

Not sure if the yellow is the discoloured colouring book, bromide leaching, or something else…

Again, use kitchen roll to make the papier-mache stain sized only.

You’ll get there!

Ah i just bought some more vanish oxy powder for the clothes he ruined on the weekend!

I think the yellow is the bleach staining?

Bleach will do it

FlibbertyGiblets · 11/10/2021 23:32

@Journeynotdestination

Bleach will do it
Even though OP has tried bleach and has now a yellow bleach mark? Okay then.

Don’t try acetone or nail polish remover! They can take off the glossy finish and leave a hole. (Ask me how I know…)

Feelingpoorlysick · 11/10/2021 23:49

The flash bicarb spray is really good for stains like these.

VelvetKitty · 11/10/2021 23:53

Acetone free nail varnish would probably work

VelvetKitty · 11/10/2021 23:53

Nail varnish remover sorry

VelvetKitty · 11/10/2021 23:54

I have high gloss side tables and use acetone free nail varnish remover for stains like red wine, curry etc and it always takes it straight off with no issues. Try a very small area first though.

WilsonMilson · 11/10/2021 23:57

Hairspray. Sounds bizarre but actually works. Saved me from a few child ‘doing creative art’ related disasters over the years.

maddening · 12/10/2021 00:02

I find baby oil moves stuff, but it.may not be able to help the bleach stain

TimeForTeaAndG · 12/10/2021 01:02

I got curry stain out of our table by covering it with bicarbonate of soda then lightly misting with vinegar so it fizzes. Let it sit for 5 minutes then wipe off. Repeat.

These are all available by the metre, or look for the pvc tablecloths www.dunelm.com/search?q=pvc+fabric

These are your friend OP www.wipeeasytablecloths.com

Yes it could be caused by bleach staining. I was wondering what the chemical reaction was to make it yellow.

Just don’t use any hydrocarbon without googling what it does to acrylic or polycarbonate!

Acetone free nail polish (ethyl acetate) is “severe reaction” so will likely also absorb into your table.

Though bleach (sodium hypochlorite) was fair on the list below so I’d avoid anything not an A.

purpletrees16 · 12/10/2021 08:18

Absorb into your table and make a different sort of plastic that crumbles off.

TeenTitan007 · 12/10/2021 11:19

Cover it up..

Oilcloth tablecloths look decent and take a lot of abuse. I have it over my wood table since having Kids as I don't want to risk it. They always spill/bang/paint/colour...one way or the other. Life is too short to worry about every little stain on the table.

One day I will see my wooden table surface again...Grin

I agree - with @poolblue - leave it for a while - sometimes bleach leaves stains you cannot get out but if you leave it for a bit - it is possible it will fade . Once had a short corian kitchen top and the stain faded - but takes patience not necessarily all the cleaning products you can throw at it. Sun does bleach things out but not helpful as it is autumn . ( depending on where you are )

ablutiions · 12/10/2021 15:25

Acetone nail varnish remover got hair dye out of my white gloss bathroom cabinet.

DustyMaiden · 12/10/2021 15:29

Nail varnish remover works because it removes the stained varnish so use as little as possible and wash quickly.

Newdreams · 12/10/2021 15:47

You could try bar keepers friend powder really worked for me on my white gloss wooden dining table.

nokidshere · 12/10/2021 15:50

I tried everything to get the stain out when a child left a wet drawing on my dining room table. Nothing worked at all. So instead we turned it into an art project, every time we used it we just did more drawings. It was fab. An cheaper/less stressful than trying to clean or replace.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 12/10/2021 15:52

Try magic eraser?

That sounds lovely- I wish I were that cool, but I’m not. It would drive me bonkers.

A glass table covered in fingerprints is not nice. We don’t even have small children, but gave our glass table away after a couple of months. Couldn’t stand it. Now we have one of those tables you can scratch hard with a nail, and it just comes off. And you can put a hot pan down straight on the table. I love this table!

Anonymice1 · 12/10/2021 16:46

Sorry, I meant to say ceramic table top.
