The UK is a wonderful place to live

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, why would anyone want to be anywhere else. In fact the 1000s of migrants arriving everyday are a clear indication of how wonderful the UK is under the stewardship of the wise and entertaining Boris Johnson. Just think how awful it would be if Jeremy Corbyn was PM wearing cardigans and still searching for the magic money tree.
Everything is great, the UK is wonderful.

@midsomermurderess

This is as daft and emptily performative as the 'just for balance' contributors on Today.
Ah the Today programme, the very best of British. Does any country in the world have anything even remotely similar?

Shh, 40% of voters in the poll think I am being reasonable.

I think you 'll find that British people speak more than English, not everyone loves strictly, lives anywhere that is green and have no worries.

Please take off your rose tinted specs.
This week millions of working families are worse off because MPs earning, £80k+ have voted to remove the UC uplift of £20 per family.
The cost of lots of things has gone up and the number of food banks, has exploded under the Tories. Teachers are gluing kids shoes back together for them.

Perhaps you have forgotten the photos from last Xmas where people were queuing in the snow for food, from the kindness of strangers. Furlough, at 80% of their wages means that now the poorest in society have had to spend their safety net just to get buy.

You do realise that working people need YC to supplement their wages because government allows their donors to pay peanuts?

Lovely UK, not for everyone.

What drugs are you taking OP?
Apart from my family and friends there is nothing keeping me in this country and I say that as someone born here. It’s grey and cold and/or wet most of the time. During the pandemic people in other countries came together, in England we fought over toilet paper and covid positive people coughed and spat on innocent/non ill people. People recently stabbed each other while queuing to get petrol. Doctors and nurses have gone above and beyond and worked to the bone, for them and many others I am truly grateful. Overall I think when you compare the lifestyle of the majority in England and abroad, England is not a great place to live.

Tbf, there are so many fruitcakes who actually feel this way it’s sometimes difficult to tell immediately.

Does any other country have the variety and quality of fruitcakes that we have in the UK. Only in the UK could we have the Great British Bake Off.

German cakes are much, much nicer ……. runs away.

awaynboilyurheid · 10/10/2021 09:59

I will take your post op,as in the spirit it was meant and agree, so glad our leader Boris is getting his much earned rest from -doing over- overdoing all that he does for the country.,

They are coming here because they will almost certainly be tortured to death in their native country, not because this is some sort of holy land. They’re also in for a really terrible time here but it beats persecution. You’re ridiculous.

Gotcha.

The thing is, the OP is very much like some of the posts that are actually serious.

YABU. We’re going to be wrestling those boats out the arms of the people traffickers and rowing ourselves out of here over to France in the hope of finding the lights still on soon.

Why would you want to go to France, a country that insists on cutting off our electricity supply under the Channel, thus causing our lights to go out?

I especially like how at 5.30am today, on my way dropping dh to work, there was a queue at one of the petrol stations. I love how people here are so hardworking they get up at the crack of dawn even on a Sunday to get mundane chores like filling up the car done. That shows we’re a country of hardworking British people.

I don't know who is more cringeworthy- OP writing this thick boring satire and thinking how very clever she is, the people who think she's serious and are upset by it, or those who think THEY'RE clever to ignore the satire and agree how great Britain is as if OP was serious.

Pythonista · 10/10/2021 10:19

Should we ask MNHQ for a special 'complain about the UK' topic?

gingerbiscuiteer · 10/10/2021 10:21

The UK is an amazing place to live.. especially when you don't bother paying too much attention to the media shit stirring and politicians (they're all pretty much the same underneath) and all the daily 'crises' we're allegedly lurching to and from.. and just enjoy the general lifestyle and landscape around us :) (that's not meant to sound privileged, I'm pretty poor, but the UK is not the hellhole that people on here like to make out banging on about political fads)

GrandmasCat · 10/10/2021 10:21

Good idea ;
GrandmasCat · 10/10/2021 10:24

Obviously, if you don’t read the news and have no money worries, every place is a wonderful place to live.

I remember a friend saying that… she wouldn’t read the news and had money to spare so was baffled at people telling her her city had become a war zone and there were people dying in the streets.

Ignorance is bliss, absolute bliss.

cocavino · 10/10/2021 10:26

I agree heartily, OP! It is actually a bit grey and gloomy where I am at the moment, but that's our British weather, isn't it? And I love it just the way it is.

Comedycook · 10/10/2021 10:27

There was a post on here years ago where a woman described a friend of hers who was a refugee from Yemen (I think) now living in the UK. She described how to her friend it was absolute paradise to walk down the street without a fear of bombs, to sit in a lovely park while your DC played, to walk into a shop full of delicious food that you can afford to buy. Really changed my outlook actually. I think the UK is easily one of the best countries in the world to live in.
