to think it's very sad that some parents can't be bothered to take their children to the school christmas fair

And before you all start I know that there are 101 very good reasons why some parents can't take their children.

But some could and just choose not to and I think that's sad for their children and sad for the school.

If you're sat at home and the only reason you're not at that fair is that you couldn't be bothered, then that is sad.

We did however make, cakes, sweety jar & mince pies ds loved that but that was a couple of days before.

I didn't take ours. I suppose I could have done, but

  1. dd had a swimming lesson (9.30-10.00)
  2. ds1 had an orchestra rehearsal (11.15-12.00)
  3. it was tipping down with rain (all day)
  4. I had a concert rehearsal in Cheltenham, 45 mins drive away (rehearsal at 3.00, leave at 2.00).
  5. I had a concert (7.30)
  6. Ds1 had a concert (7.30)

So I reasoned we had enough on , although I suppose I COULD have taken them, as the fair was 11.30-2.00!

We went to ours, and the dds enjoyed it because they got to see father christmas, and had a pound each to buy some crap some other parents had donated, and some cakes, but I could have done without it to be honest ! It was hot, extremely crowded, and extremely ridiculously expensive - they were selling programmes ffs for 50p- shoved in your face as you tried to enter. Nothing else in the whole place was under a pound, I spent 12 quid, which I know goes to the school etc....but I had to lug ds 7 mo around the whole time as no possible way to get buggy in - I couldn't get out fast enough ! So I can understand people avoiding it once they have had that experience !

That's the problem in ds's class. It's a 70% muslim class so they just don't join in on things like that. I'm supposed to be in charge of the stall for our class and there isn't going to be anything on it.

Christmas Fairs, to be honest, are bloody nightmares! A couple of stalls selling tat that they really shouldn't charge for. Tombola for some smellies and cheap wine. Fat naff Santa giving your kid some inappropriate present (dd got a cross stitch set that she can't do and neither can I!), hordes of kids running round screaming, clique of parents bitching......

Can't say I blame them at all!

I very nearly didn't go, because last years was so badly organised that no one could move, let alone look at the stalls.

However, I gave in the the demands of my children and we went, and I am glad we did as we had a nice time and the kids enjoyed spending my pennies lol.

o yeah I know that - thats why I went, and spent 12 quid, and baked for it, and donated toys books etc...so I don't mind really, and we will go next year, but I am just saying I did not enjoy it, so can understand people not going, like some parents I know.

i tried to take my dc to xmas fair today but got into corrider,couldnt get any further so had to stand in corner with buggy(and apparently still in the way)whilst dd and ds went off to buy the decorations they had made(charged for theyre own work!!).then tried to get out,got stuck,had to go back through crowds to fine another door(2 doors blocked my people!)so i dont like bloody xmas fairs!!!

Really? Well no-one told me that! I mean I was miffed not to get a pressie from Santa personally, I got escorted off the premises when I asked to sit on his knee. And I threw a tantrum when I couldn't jump the queue for the tombola.

Bloody kids have everything these days.

Going to my first as a parent tomorrow (dd1 in the nursery class) and am going to enjoy it eight hundred times more than I did when I was a teacher and idiotically volunteered to do a stall every year. Ha blardy ha!
