Washing teatowels

Sorry for the boring thread.

AIBU to think it's fine to bung teatowels in with the normal washing at 40° if they're not actually soiled?
DH seems to think we should do a separate wash for teatowels and I think that's overkill when they've just been used in a normal fashion to dry stuff for a few days.

I always feel like I should reconsider my filthy life when reading threads like this. I don't even have enough tea towels to last a week if i changed daily 🙈

Ticklemycarpets · 08/10/2021 22:26

I'm so confused by the cleanliness standards of people.
They can just go on at 40 along with everything else.
No one in our house has been sick in years.

Booboosweet · 08/10/2021 22:27

? Just put them in with the normal wash

Cosyblankets · 08/10/2021 22:44

Wash on normal wash with whatever needs washing.
They go in dirty and they come out clean

DappyApple · 08/10/2021 22:46

I just Chuck them in with the normal wash. Same with my microfibre cloths.

echt · 10/10/2021 11:59

@TheKeatingFive

but the cloths wipe up all kinds of food.

And then they're washed. So ...

What do you think's going to happen if you put them in a regular wash?

My regular wash isn't 60.

It's 20 or cold.

TheKeatingFive · 10/10/2021 12:26

It's 20 or cold.

That's pretty unusual in fairness

Hobbesmanc · 10/10/2021 13:22

I sadly inherited from my mother the concept of ordinary tea towels (checked or single colours) and special ones - Abbeys of Yorkshire. Royal weddings. Shortbread recipes. Ordinary ones get used for everything. Special ones are not to be used except maybe to dry the Crystal.

But they all get thrown in the main wash. I wash bath towels separately cos of the fluff. Not because of scary poo particles. In fact as towels touch our bums at their super cleanest I'd imagine there's no particles really

NeverDropYourMooncup · 10/10/2021 13:28

@BoredZelda

Everything else goes in together in a 15 minute quick wash.

Said this the other day. If your clothes are clean on a 15 minute wash, they don’t need washed, wear them again.

Tomato ketchup comes off in a 15 minute wash, as do tea/coffee splashes, yoghurt, gravy and any sweat from wearing a shirt in the office for a day. I wouldn't be wearing something I had sweated over or spilt foodstuffs on for a second day.

This adds a whole new layer of complexity to how nice ladies do their laundry! Not only could washing my underwear with my tea towels cause the whole family to die of arse disease, but if I chuck the Chatsworth tea towel in it's possible that Her Grace the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire could come face-to-face with my germ-infested knickers.
Oneeata · 10/10/2021 13:41

I wash mine every other day on a 40 wash usually.

CaribouCarafe · 10/10/2021 14:16

This made me cry laughing. Thank you @MurielSpriggs.

Nsky · 10/10/2021 14:26

Never use them, dishcloths dishwasher sorted,if not 60c wash

Actually, everyone I know washes everything in cold water except linens.
TheKeatingFive · 10/10/2021 15:16

So does that include tea towels? Knickers?

Is anyone else getting steadily more confused by this thread?

Is it the underwear that's a horrific germ fest or the tea towels? Are people saying they wash tea towels separately at 60/90 but knickers cold? What?!?!

shouldistop · 10/10/2021 15:18

I wash tea towels along with all other towels, cloths and face cloths in a 60 degree wash.

I have never in my life dicussed washing, let alone temps, with anyone but my mum 😂 I am obviously bit out (not the first time i feel like that here😂)

Most people I know tend to wash at around 40 degrees.

Marvellousmadness · 10/10/2021 15:38

Just wash like you want to. And if he doesnt like it, he is free to put in a load hiself :)

WaltzingToWalsingham · 12/10/2021 13:12

@echt Are you in the UK? When we lived in the US, our washing machine ran on cold. Now we're back in the UK, my washing machine doesn't go lower than 30 on a standard cycle.

KingdomScrolls · 12/10/2021 13:44

Mine go on a sixty with the other towels, including the monogrammed cat's feet towel (genuinely bought by PIL)

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 12/10/2021 13:55

I just shove mine in with whatever's going in the washing machine at the time
