Washing teatowels

Sorry for the boring thread.

AIBU to think it's fine to bung teatowels in with the normal washing at 40° if they're not actually soiled?
DH seems to think we should do a separate wash for teatowels and I think that's overkill when they've just been used in a normal fashion to dry stuff for a few days.

What are you all doing with your tea towels that they need to go on a boil wash??
I'm with you OP, mine just go in with a normal wash at 30°.

Wazzzzzzzup · 07/10/2021 12:50

I don't put the toilet brush in the washing machine, though, that would just be silly.

That's what dishwasher is for

Joking😁

loopylindi · 07/10/2021 13:00

here we go again! Another germophobe probably with allergies!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/10/2021 13:01

I chuck em in!

abstractprojection · 08/10/2021 01:11

My DH boils them

I either chuck them in the hot wash with the towels and bedding, or they go in a warm one with everything else

NotMyCat · 08/10/2021 01:38

Washed with everything else
I do use dettol laundry cleanser in most washes though so I guess that covers it

choli · 08/10/2021 01:50

@GrouchyKiwi

I put them in with everything else BUT I iron them on the hottest setting as their final clean.
Mother of God people iron tea towels?
Biker47 · 08/10/2021 01:59

Washed with everything else, usually at 40.

Thewitchonthemoon · 08/10/2021 03:09

I do tea towels separately on a 90 degree wash. Probably overkill.

Pedalpushers · 08/10/2021 03:30

The poor environment 😢 I'm an environmental microbiologist and I wash mine at 40 like everything else (30 is false economy).

Pedalpushers · 08/10/2021 03:33

BTW I hate to break it to you but if you wash at 60 cos 40 won't kill germs...temperature is barely any part of a wash cycle, it is agitation and sofactent combined to lift bacteria off clothes. Bacteria loveeee 60 degrees, cosy warm.

Hi @pedalpushers Why is 30 false economy?
garlictwist · 08/10/2021 04:36

I just wang then in with the clothes on 40. What do you think they contain that requires them to be boiled?! Are you wiping your arse with them?

Nat6999 · 08/10/2021 04:50

I throw mine in with a boil wash, put my dishcloth & kitchen sponges in as well, there are usually whites in with them & I add a splash of bleach as well.

Theoldwoman · 08/10/2021 05:08

Dry stuff for a few days? MIne get changed daily and washed with other towels/bathmat at 60 deg.

Im with your husband.

TheKeatingFive · 08/10/2021 06:21

Are you wiping your arse with them?

😆

I do wonder on here sometimes

echt · 08/10/2021 06:54

I wash tea towels along with scrubbers and kitchen surface cloths once I've accumulated a bagful. At 60, glug of bleach. All are changed daily.

Yes, I do iron them, as they take up less room in a pile.

I don't wipe my arse with them, but the cloths wipe up all kinds of food.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/10/2021 07:45

Maybe they're cleaning the toilet with them, because there's almost certainly a strong correlation between the type of people who boil wash their tea towels every day, with those who refuse to have a toilet brush.
brokenbiscuitsx · 08/10/2021 08:06

@BarbaraofSeville 🤣🤣🤣

TheKeatingFive · 08/10/2021 08:37

I think barbara has cracked it 😆

TheKeatingFive · 08/10/2021 08:39

but the cloths wipe up all kinds of food.

And then they're washed. So ...

What do you think's going to happen if you put them in a regular wash?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 08/10/2021 08:44

They go in with whatever needs to be washed- I am flabbergasted about how many people do all these separate washes. What are you expecting to happen if a tea towel touches your pants?

pontiouspilates · 08/10/2021 08:50

I keep my used teatowels and cleaning cloths in a canvas tote in the utility. When the bag is full, the whole lot goes into a 90 degree wash.

I suspect that it's a way for housewives to justify their existence.
