Washing teatowels

Sorry for the boring thread.

AIBU to think it's fine to bung teatowels in with the normal washing at 40° if they're not actually soiled?
DH seems to think we should do a separate wash for teatowels and I think that's overkill when they've just been used in a normal fashion to dry stuff for a few days.

I separate tea towels and dish cloths etc and wash them with powder on 60.
I'll do it once every 2 weeks or so more though and save them up, I have a ton of tea towels for this very reason.

I'll do the same and separate bath towels and bedding, also with a powder instead of a pod but not always at 60.

GertietheGherkin · 06/10/2021 19:41

Mine go in with bath towels on a 70 degree wash.

butterpuffed · 06/10/2021 19:41

@Chloemol

They go in with everything else, they have been used to dry clean pots and pans!
Exactly !

As for ironing tea towels , never heard anything so ridculous Grin

HHSchultz · 06/10/2021 19:42

@1forAll74

Wash with everything else. why would you need to wash separately. One of my cats came in with wet fur the other day, so rubbed him down with a fresh dry tea towel that was handy nearby, then wiped some dishes with it, as forgot to get another tea towel out, the towel will go in the wash soon, with all the other stuff.
That is absolutely grim Shock. I am dog mad and treat them as almost human but no that's really bad.
FellInLoveWithABanana · 06/10/2021 19:43

@GrouchyKiwi

I put them in with everything else BUT I iron them on the hottest setting as their final clean.
We are meant to iron them?
Spidey66 · 06/10/2021 19:43

I wash them with the towels at 90degrees though I know it’s not environmentally friendly to do so.

fabulouslyglamorousferret · 06/10/2021 19:44

* "God no they go separately*" .... I know !! Just imagine 😆

"when I Iron them" iron? Tea towels? Fml!

What the fuck is happening? Im a clarty fucking midden obviously 😫

Wazzzzzzzup · 06/10/2021 19:51

Mine don't get ironed because they get randomly ceumpled in a ball and thrown in a towel drawer 😂😂😂
I am must be doing something wrong because mine get proper filthy, they are not just for wiping dishes in mine🙈

yourestandingonmyneck · 06/10/2021 19:55

@Mylittlecoconuts

Yep. Normal wash.. Life is short enough without worrying about how to wash a tea towel.
Yes, this pretty much sums it up for me.
Stormsy · 06/10/2021 19:59

I just bung them in with everything else. No one has died due to poo particles yet.

honeylou42 · 06/10/2021 20:00

Throw them in with everything else here 😊

CiaoForNiao · 06/10/2021 20:02

Mine go in with whatever else I'm washing at the time. Probably on 40° I'm not entirely sure Grin

Notebooksarefabulous · 06/10/2021 20:04

Threads like this always make me wonder - what is all these mysterious horrific bacteria some of you speak of that NEEDS a 60c or 90c wash or its going to be a disaster.

Ive only ever washed our stuff at 40c. Bung it all in together unless something is highly soiled in which case it gets soaked and rinsed first. Our stuff is all washed, clean and doesnt smell. We are almost never ill - so what is the point in a 60c wash? Genuinely baffled.

BarbaraofSeville · 06/10/2021 20:08

Are people missing the point that washing things means that they are clean?

OK, they might not be forensically clean room level clean and there theoretically could be one germ per million or whatever, but we're all covered in germs anyway, so an extra one doesn't actually matter.

butterpuffed · 06/10/2021 20:09

After reading this thread I've realised what a slovenly cow I am. I don't wash them at 90deg, I don't iron them and hell I even put them in the wash with other stuff Blush

All I can hope for is that single use tea towels will soon be invented .

Wazzzzzzzup · 06/10/2021 20:11

Just want to pipe in about washed lothes amelling. Drain the washing machine. Mine sometimes doesn't drain before cycle (i think it should) and then the clothes smells odd... But if i set a quick drain (3min) it's all fine

tempchecked · 06/10/2021 20:15

I don't have any. I either use the dishwasher, or occasionally hand wash a few mugs, glasses etc. to air dry and if needed, I use paper towel to finish off, which goes into the recycle when used.

I do have a proper kitchen towel and cleaning cloths and throw them in with ordinary stuff. Life is too short to even think about it.

Workinghardeveryday · 06/10/2021 20:21

I bleach them over night, then boil wash each one separately at a 90 wash 😂

No doubt someone will say something similar!

Mine go in with other wash at 40/60 depending

MurielSpriggs · 06/10/2021 20:21

I once washed my tea towels with my knickers, but I died of the bubonic plague.

JamMakingWannaBe · 06/10/2021 20:28

I barely even wash them! I hang tea towels that have been used to dry Tupperware that has been nuked at 350 degrees in the dishwasher on the oven door to dry until the next time. They might have a date with the washing machine once a week. Tea towels air dried using the residual heat from the oven do not smell, and as PP are not covered in ebola.

Mantlemoose · 06/10/2021 20:30

Whites and underwear get washed seperately. Everything else goes in together in a 15 minute quick wash. Dishes/shower/bathtime over and done with by 9pm, quick wash, on the drying screen, mostly dry for the next load the same day.

Datsandcogs · 06/10/2021 20:38

No, wash them on their own, hottest wash sometimes, otherwise 60 degrees.

BoredZelda · 06/10/2021 20:38

I wash them separately because they tend to have oil or fat on them and the rest of the washing smells of fat, especially if it goes through the drier. Ever noticed the fatty aroma of hotel towels, that’s because they are washed with the kitchen cloths.

BoredZelda · 06/10/2021 20:39

Everything else goes in together in a 15 minute quick wash.

Said this the other day. If your clothes are clean on a 15 minute wash, they don’t need washed, wear them again.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 06/10/2021 20:40

Give then a sniff

If they smell a bit grim like hand towels go then hotter wash

If they smell nice and clean they are fine
