Washing teatowels

Sorry for the boring thread.

AIBU to think it's fine to bung teatowels in with the normal washing at 40° if they're not actually soiled?
DH seems to think we should do a separate wash for teatowels and I think that's overkill when they've just been used in a normal fashion to dry stuff for a few days.

Ever noticed the fatty aroma of hotel towels

No.

BoredZelda · 06/10/2021 21:40

Why would they have oil or fat on them? What are you using them for Tea towels are used to dry wet dishes not mop up oil/fat

They are used for all sorts in our house, but most often for taking dishes out of the oven when we can’t find the oven gloves. We don’t generally dry wet dishes, they are dry when they come out of the dishwasher.

DdraigGoch · 06/10/2021 21:42

I only separate out the whites. Colours go on at 30. It hasn't killed me yet.

BoredZelda · 06/10/2021 21:42

No one's died yet.

I’m always amazed this is people’s low bar for what should/shouldn’t be done. No one died from wearing pyjamas on the school run but according to MN, that’s apparently not acceptable.

OldTinHat · 06/10/2021 21:44

What's a tea towel??!! 😂

TheKeatingFive · 06/10/2021 21:44

We're barely ever sick either.

What else am I supposed to be worried about. Do tell?

Abouttimemum · 06/10/2021 21:46

I throw them in with everything else to be washed, in the washing machine, designed for washing things that are dirty. Not sure why I wouldn’t tbh.

DroopyClematis · 06/10/2021 21:51

I understand ( from MN) that some countries only have cold water inlets for washing machines and that heat is not produced by the machine either, ( I believe that Japan might be one of those countries.)
Apparently, it keeps your clothes looking better for longer.
Many soap powders work, optimumly at cold temperatures. It appears that hot water can destroy the enzymes, or whatever, that work on cleaning your washing.

beigebrownblue · 06/10/2021 21:53

@SickAndTiredAgain

One of my cats came in with wet fur the other day, so rubbed him down with a fresh dry tea towel that was handy nearby, then wiped some dishes with it

On threads like this I always feel like I have some of the lowest standards, and I stand by them. But even I would draw the line at this Shock

Me too. Thought it was a joke, actually, perhaps it is.

Likewise putting tea towels in with resusable san pro.

Wouldn't.

We have dishwasher. Tea towels go in seperate bowl until there is enough of them to do a full wash. On sixty.

Cryalot2 · 06/10/2021 21:55

With towels at a min 60 wash . Not that we use many tea towels

Ireolu · 06/10/2021 21:59

Short wash with for white tea towels. Then the microfiber towels of various colours for cleaning around the house are washed separately once a week. Waste of time I realise now writing this

BoredZelda · 06/10/2021 22:05

Would it matter? Your patronising “do tell” says it all.

TheKeatingFive · 06/10/2021 22:08

Would it matter?

Well if there's an actual problem I should be aware of, do tell me, like I say.

If all I have to fear is pointlessly judgemental MNers then I have my answer
😉

TuftyMarmoset · 06/10/2021 22:22

TuftyMarmoset · 06/10/2021 22:24

I do this - the only reason not to would be if you think your washing machine doesn't actually clean the things you put in it. Totally different scenario to drying dishes with a dirty towel.

TiddyTidTwo · 06/10/2021 22:26

@LubaLuca

In with everything else, 40° with biological powder.
Same! Fast, easy no faffing
XenoBitch · 06/10/2021 22:29

I chuck them in with normal washing.
I also used to commit a MN sin of putting my dog's bowls in the dishwasher with everything else.

Immaculatemisconception · 06/10/2021 22:32

I do mine separately on a hot wash. Washing them with underwear and sweaty clothes is gross.

Based on what? What's your concern?

Do you understand the function of washing machines?

Why? Do you do a cleaning cycle between an underwear/ clothes wash and a tea towel wash? The whole point of a washing machine is that everything comes out clean.
TheKeatingFive · 06/10/2021 22:39

There are definitely people around my local Tesco who have the cavalier ‘I wash all my grim shitty stuff together at less than body temperature and nobody died’ attitude and they actually stink

Nothing coming out of my washing machine stinks. Perhaps people need new washing machines?

Do not engage! It's like the flat-earth society Grin

@icedcoffees

I wash them in with the bath towels at 60 degrees.
Same
