Washing teatowels

Sorry for the boring thread.

AIBU to think it's fine to bung teatowels in with the normal washing at 40° if they're not actually soiled?
DH seems to think we should do a separate wash for teatowels and I think that's overkill when they've just been used in a normal fashion to dry stuff for a few days.

I always wash my tea towels and other kitchen stuff separately.

I’m with your DH.

FartNRoses · 06/10/2021 18:53

Me too, I'm afraid.

Winterfellismyhome · 06/10/2021 18:54

I chuck them in with everything else 🤷🏻‍♀️

BloodyBack · 06/10/2021 18:54

Tea towels go in normal wash for me, I don't care! Slattern that I clearly am.

Wazzzzzzzup · 06/10/2021 18:55

I do them with towels because with towels I don't use any softener

Mylittlecoconuts · 06/10/2021 18:55

Yep. Normal wash..
Life is short enough without worrying about how to wash a tea towel.

callingon · 06/10/2021 18:55

I used to wash them separately then gave up and can report no ill effects.

GrouchyKiwi · 06/10/2021 18:56

I put them in with everything else BUT I iron them on the hottest setting as their final clean.

ALongHardWinter · 06/10/2021 18:57

I put them in with my towel wash,at 40 degrees.

Usuallyhappycamper · 06/10/2021 18:58

I do all towels together at 60. I would never have enough tea towels to do a wash of just them.

BordelDeMerde · 06/10/2021 19:00

@M4J4

I always wash my tea towels and other kitchen stuff separately.

What other kitchen stuff are you washing, though? I wash the kitchen cloth with other cleaning cloths and any actually soiled tea towels, but teatowels that have just been used, but don't like or smell dirty?

Im with your DH, I always boil wash my tea towels and dish cloths.

SheWoreYellow · 06/10/2021 19:00

I do them with everything else at 30. What exactly are you worried about them having on them? Soapy water and drying them out will mean nothing can survive on them.

SomebodysMum · 06/10/2021 19:00

It would never ever have occurred to me to wash them separately. The things they dry are clean. The hands that hold them are clean. Why would you need to?

BordelDeMerde · 06/10/2021 19:01

*look, ffs

OP posts:
icedcoffees · 06/10/2021 19:02

I wash them in with the bath towels at 60 degrees.

M4J4 · 06/10/2021 19:02

Aprons, micro fibre towels, veg bags for potatoes etc

icelollycraving · 06/10/2021 19:03

I do a separate wash for tea towels and cleaning cloths. I love a washing thread.

SickAndTiredAgain · 06/10/2021 19:03

I throw them in with other stuff at 30. We have a dishwasher so they are used very occasionally to dry something that has just been washed. How dirty can they be?

dementedpixie · 06/10/2021 19:04

Once they are damp I fling them in the machine and then they are washed with whatever load goes on next. They are drying clean dishes not mopping up ebola!

TertiusLydgate · 06/10/2021 19:05

We bung them in with towels at 60 or 90.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/10/2021 19:05

I put them in a towel wash along with my sanitary ones and face wipes too.

Mapletreelane · 06/10/2021 19:06

With your DH , tea towels in with towels on 60°c wash. Not keen on washing them in with the family's smalls!

I pop the dishcloth in the dishwasher when it goes on.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 06/10/2021 19:07

They go in with bedding and or towels on a 60 degree wash here. And get a pre-soak in Vanish if they are stained.

PricklesTheHedgehog · 06/10/2021 19:08

60 degree wash here, in with the towels.
