To ask why we aren’t talking about the fuel anymore?

We still have all our petrol stations empty, there has been the odd delivery but all the pumps have empty signs very quickly.

It doesn’t seem to be on the news anymore, are we just accepting that this is how we now live?

We aren’t talking about it because in the vast majority of the country it’s no longer an issue, it’s just the SE / London that seem to still be suffering and that’s probably down to the sense of entitlement that that region suffers from. It may surprise you to learn but there is a whole world outside of the South East of England and by and large we don’t give two hoots about what happens down there, regardless of how much people from there seem to think the world revolves around them
You better tell Insulate Britain and all the other protestors that then.

I bet you'd give more than two hoots if the tax money stopped funding your part of the UK.

If not the majority, a significant proportion of the UK lives in the south.

plk323 · 03/10/2021 20:13

NW London/M25 and still serious fuel shortages here. Most petrol stations either empty or become empty quickly.

I have friends and family in other parts of England so I would feel concerned and sympathetic if my family in the north couldn't get any petrol. Seems like this isn't widely reciprocated from a few of the comments on here...

JemimaPiddleDick · 03/10/2021 20:15

How strange that when I mention a sense of entitlement and a feeling the world revolves around you, you come up with a comment like that.
Have a lovely evening,

SweetPetrichor · 03/10/2021 20:19

I haven’t noticed any issues other than a bigger queue on the first day or two up here in Scotland. I filled up on Saturday and the forecourt was the same as normal, no spending limits, no queues…would have known there was anything going on at all.

That's an exceptionally rude comment and also fairly irrelevant to the actual OP. The amount of venom some people put into London bashing is really a reflection on them and their misunderstandings.
BelleOfTheProvince · 03/10/2021 20:20

The "I'm alright Jack" mentality seems to be in no shortage up north.
Umm don't a lot things come through the ports at Dover? Good luck living a life independent of London and the South East.

I don't know what is worse. Londoners telling the rest of the south having a car is selfish whilst enjoying the benefits of a working public transport system.

Or northerners telling us that because we can't get petrol still we think that the world revolves around us.

Yep. It certainly seems to be one way only from some. Hopefully just an unpleasant minority. I too have friends and family in the north and they're not represented by the spiteful mindedness displayed by a few on here.

Icanflyhigh · 03/10/2021 20:25

All back to normal in the Midlands as far as I can tell.

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:26

Londoners telling the rest of the south having a car is selfish

Plenty of Londoners have (and need) a car.
It exists outside of central, and there are also many jobs that require one (wherever someone lives). Also those unable to easily use (already very crowded) public transport. The disabled, elderly, and ill, carers, etc.

Ah, the good old “anywhere that’s not London is ‘The North’” trope. Who’s to say I’m not in Cornwall?
Hebditch · 03/10/2021 20:28

This whole situation was created by the media in the first place. People constantly stoking the panic by posting photos of queues and online scare-mongering only causes more panic buying. The media NOT constantly reporting this as a ‘crisis’ is the best way forward actually, so I for one am glad it’s not all over the news.

“They said they don’t care about Londoners, what a ghastly person they must be”

The more comments like these I read the more you underline my point about thinking the world revolves around you

I know. I was pointing out Londoners saying this are looking at their own very narrow experience.
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/10/2021 20:31

We’re alright in our bit of the south east. We’ve had to queue but always had petrol and diesel available. Our cars are full so I’m ok for 10 days and dh for a week.

BelleOfTheProvince · 03/10/2021 20:32

Hating in Cornwall or North is still hating.

XelaM · 03/10/2021 20:33

I'm in London and no petrol anywhere. If there is a delivery there are huge queues. Total disgrace of a country. Reminds me of the Soviet Union

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:35

Who’s to say I’m not in Cornwall?

Well Cornwall has certainly had its fair share of news in recent times. It had the G7, media attention and threads on here talking about the 'flood' of tourists, and (unlike for priced out Londoners) a huge amount of media articles expressing sympathy for priced out locals.

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 03/10/2021 20:35

I live in the SE & it's bad in my area.
I met up last night with some friends I hadn't seen since before Covid. M
Topics of discussion:
Where did you get petrol? Anywhere near here?
So what have you been up to the last 18months?
Did you with through or get furloughed?
Has your fuel supplier gone under yet?

It's being talked about in some areas!

Lostmarbles2021 · 03/10/2021 20:35

It’s usually the rest of the country where significant events are happening but they don’t make the news. It’s a localised issue now so doesn’t need to be headlines for the whole of the UK I guess?

Whatisgoingonere · 03/10/2021 20:37

We’re not talking about it because the media have accomplished what they wanted, scaremongering and reckless behaviour.. because what wasn’t an issue now is but not because of a ‘fuel shortage’ as was made out.

Our per trip stations are also empty. I’m lucky enough to work from home so was able to last week when I didn’t have enough fuel to get to the office. However my nearest A&E/Hospital is 50 minutes away and what I had left in my tank would not have got me there if someone happened to my toddler DD, when we last needed an ambulance (not long ago which is why I was worried) it was a 2 hour wait and they actually called me to ask if there was any way in could get there myself because of the wait times and didn’t want to leave DD without being seen that long.

I’ve learnt my lesson letting my fuel get so low.. but sometimes I actually can’t afford to fill it up above £10 a time Blush

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:37

Wonder why no-one in other parts of the UK is complaining about Insulate Britain's apparent southern bias?

They're being terribly southern centric. Time to move on from the M25. Where to next? Cornwall? The NW? Somewhere else?

thewhatsit · 03/10/2021 20:37

London - it’s still the main topic of conversation on the local area Facebook groups I follow. I don’t think there is much fuel around here still.
We have a car but don’t drive it during the week and all get public transport everywhere so it’s honestly not something I’m following closely anymore (after initial interest on a supply chain / Brexit / media frenzy level) . I think in London the majority of people could just use public transport so I’m surprised why so many people seem so desperate.

JemimaPiddleDick · 03/10/2021 20:39

@BelleOfTheProvince

Hating in Cornwall or North is still hating.
Not caring particularly much, whether I’m Cornwall, Leeds, Wales, Northern Ireland or even God forbid Scotland isn’t hating, it’s just not caring terribly much about a localised problem in a geographically small part of the country
pointythings · 03/10/2021 20:39

I'm in East Anglia and it's still really bad, especially for those of us who drive diesels.

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:41

It’s a localised issue

Wrong (but I think you know that). On two counts.

Number 1) Significant numbers of people from other parts of the UK are in London and the SE (hence the dense population and public health housing emergency).

Number two) London is an international city and has one of the world's busiest airports.
