To ask why we aren’t talking about the fuel anymore?

We still have all our petrol stations empty, there has been the odd delivery but all the pumps have empty signs very quickly.

It doesn’t seem to be on the news anymore, are we just accepting that this is how we now live?

It's not really a question of thinking the world revolves around us but more that I don't come from a position of not caring what happens to people in other regions. To me, that's an odd attitude.

My sister in the far south-west is concerned about their limited hospital capacity to deal with covid admissions when tourism is in full swing in the summer. My brother in the north struggles with access to affordable housing. Should I not care about their local problems? Similarly, I'm happy for my extended family who live on the edge of the Peak District and enjoy the beautiful countryside on their doorstep. I don't have ill-will towards anywhere outside the south east on principle.

geographically small part of the country

Yes indeed. Geographically small - but population wise large.

ChristmasWithDC · 03/10/2021 20:44

It’s an issue that’s mainly effecting the SE and London. I’m in Devon and it’s been absolutely fine since about the middle of last week. Friends in Ashford though are tearing their hair out and talking about 2 hours queues Shock. Huge swathes of the country often have major issues and it’s completely ignored by the media. It must be a shock for Londoners for it to happen to them for once.

FreeBritnee · 03/10/2021 20:44

East anglia and it seems to have stabilised here. I think the army are helping to deliver next week so hopefully things will ease for you soon 🤞

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:45

think in London the majority of people could just use public transport

You think wrong. See previous posts from me and others explaining why.

JemimaPiddleDick · 03/10/2021 20:49

@Tealightsandd

It’s a localised issue

Wrong (but I think you know that). On two counts.

Number 1) Significant numbers of people from other parts of the UK are in London and the SE (hence the dense population and public health housing emergency).

Number two) London is an international city and has one of the world's busiest airports.

I do t bear any ill will to anyone anywhere on this great big island of ours, but if it’s all the same with you I’d rather not have examples of one small geographical area’s outbreaks of mass hysteria rammed down my throat every time I switch on the TV news for days on end. It’s a shame that you’re experiencing difficulties filling your car, it really is, but the fact that supplies are more or less back to normal across huge swathes of the country outside of your local are speaks volumes about the “me first, give me all of everything and screw the people behind me” attitude that seems more prevalent where you are than where I am. Perhaps you need to see yourselves as others see you
Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:49

must be a shock for Londoners for it to happen to them for once.

It would be...if it was true. And anyway, a significant proportion of people in London are from other parts of the UK.

Londoners are used to major issues not getting attention or concern. Particularly but not only the 165,000 London homeless.

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:50

A shame about the name. I like (real) ducks.

Dee1975 · 03/10/2021 20:50

It was on the news earlier about the SE still suffering? Not sure what you mean by it not being talked about?

JemimaPiddleDick · 03/10/2021 20:51

@Tealightsandd

geographically small part of the country

Yes indeed. Geographically small - but population wise large.

Given the scenes there have been in petrol station forecourts over the last few days I’d hesitate to call the population wise
Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:51

Ducks (real ones) are nicer and wiser than humans.

JemimaPiddleDick · 03/10/2021 20:51

Now who’s being hateful
Doris86 · 03/10/2021 20:52

People have stopped talking about it because, now the panic buying has subsided, the issue has largely gone and it’s pretty easy to find fuel in most areas of the country.

In my local area today I drove past 6 petrol stations. One was out of fuel, but the other 5 all had petrol and diesel with no queues to speak of.

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 20:56

@Tealightsandd

Wonder why no-one in other parts of the UK is complaining about Insulate Britain's apparent southern bias?

They're being terribly southern centric. Time to move on from the M25. Where to next? Cornwall? The NW? Somewhere else?

I should contact them about this. I assume they have contact details?
Wroxie · 03/10/2021 20:56

@WayneBruce

Loads of petrol up north. No queues, nothing running dry. Think the issue still remains in the SE though. Old news now.
Not true everywhere - I passed three stations today and two had cones up, one had only petrol. This is in Leeds. The only one that seemed fully stocked (The one at Morrisons) didn't have queues, though.
DynastyBarry · 03/10/2021 20:58

There's none around here - sw and quite a big town, we have 5 closeish garages and they are all dry. 3 children with sn to get to school in the morning - furthest is 3 miles, should be a fun taxi ride....

Claudia84 · 03/10/2021 20:59

I suppose if you want to stop people panic buying fuel it might be wise to not have it front page news.

RoseMartha · 03/10/2021 21:07

I am in SE
Passed a petrol station tonight which was out of fuel. The supermarkets seem to have more than the non supermarket petrol stations.
Its better than when the panic started but not great where I am.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 03/10/2021 21:20

@JemimaPiddleDick wow what a shitty comment.

I don't live in London but do live South East ish but I'd never say I couldn't give a shit about what it happening to people a few hours North of me.

People have become such dicks lately. It's sad.

funghipizza · 03/10/2021 21:22

@Confiscatedpopit

SE… too much money (for some) and too little worries. More likely to panic buy.

Northerners- not enough £ to stock up and more likely to worry about actual problems.

Horrific generalisation but surely a grain of truth there…

Probs more to do with population density...
Livpool · 03/10/2021 21:23

Fine in Liverpool and Lancashire - no issues at all

Lostmarbles2021 · 03/10/2021 21:23

Major things can be happening in Wales and it gets no coverage. The Covid rules in Wales were rarely mentioned until complaints forced them to and even then the radio news would talk about the Covid rules for England as if they were UK wide. This is just a tiny taste of that for the SE. And it is currently on the BBC news website. Crisis over bar SE. Hence the whole of the UK doesn’t need to know. It’s not that we don’t care.

Neonplant · 03/10/2021 21:24

I'm in Newcastle there's no problem here.

Helocariad · 03/10/2021 21:26

I'm in Wales, no problem getting fuel here

hardyloveit · 03/10/2021 21:31

I'm SE I'm on the red and don't have enough to sit in the enormous queues around here. Haven't been able to get any for over a week.
