To ask why we aren’t talking about the fuel anymore?

We still have all our petrol stations empty, there has been the odd delivery but all the pumps have empty signs very quickly.

It doesn’t seem to be on the news anymore, are we just accepting that this is how we now live?

@fiftiesmum

But Boris says there is no shortage of fuel therefore every thing must be double plus good with no shortage of fuel
In this case he is correct there is no shortage of fuel.

JIT and the rush on fuel caused by media panic has caused this.

Shade17 · 03/10/2021 19:32

To the posters who keep posting "all normal where I am, can't understand the fuss" can you please take into consideration that things are still quite dire in some places.

It’s a direct answer to the OP’s question though, we’re not all talking about it any more as it’s not an issue for many areas.

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 19:33

@Squirrelblanket

It's an issue mainly affecting the SE/London now.

I know it's hard to cope with an issue affecting SE/London not being national news for a change but you will just have to get on with it. Like the rest of the country does most of the time.

A fair proportion of the rest of the country will be affected. Given that so many have, over the years, moved to London and the SE.

The SE and London is a sizeable percentage of the UK population.

Also (as people are so often told when they're priced out of there) London is different and it is significant. It's the capital (and it's taxes go some way towards funding the rest of the UK).

But it is an issue for the areas of highest population density. Including the country's capital.

It's better if it's NOT top news every 5 minutes. It just creates more panic & delays to going back to normal!

liveforsummer · 03/10/2021 19:42

All back to normal here so imagine it's because few people are still affected therefore a lot less people mentioning it.

It was the media who created this clusterfuck, let's hope they keep quiet.

lunepremiere79 · 03/10/2021 19:43

All petrol stations are shut around here in North London, we are not running on red, got enough petrol to get to the station but not back if there is nothing, but there is no way to know in advance, as none pick up the phone. Have been taking Ubers to take DD to nursery last week at £20 a day and no ways to know when this will resolve itself. It's a f&&ing disaster!

It's affecting the areas with the largest populations. So a lot of people.
nameswap48 · 03/10/2021 19:47

We've been able to get fuel fine this week, I believe there were some queues first part of the week but fine for the last few days, even diesel. I know it's still an issue in London/SE but believe it or not the world doesn't revolve around those places Wink I'm sure it'll settle down there too when people realise there actually isn't an issue and stop filling up unnecessarily, as they've done here.

GetDrunkWithMe · 03/10/2021 19:48

All normal here. Smile Managed to put £40 in my car today, no queues what so ever.
I'd imagine things are getting back to normal for most people so aren't mentioning it.

sashagabadon · 03/10/2021 19:49

It’s ok where I live now. London

😂😂 well said!
Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 19:51

but believe it or not the world doesn't revolve around those places

Perhaps someone should tell all the people from the rest of the UK who moved down south that then Wink

MolyHolyGuacamole · 03/10/2021 19:51

Maybe because the ones starting posts were in areas that have been resolved? But you've started one so there you go, we're talking about it. I managed to get some today, it's the first time I've tried as I've just waited for my fuel to go down. I only had one car ahead of me, was there max 10 mins.

However it was the third one I drove by, one was out, one was open but with a long queue. Mine was a much bigger station and very efficient

To ask why we aren’t talking about the fuel anymore?

Agree with this
HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/10/2021 19:52

It's seemingly resolved in most areas. Monday/Tuesday this week, there were queues then no petrol signs. As of Wednesday, it seems back to normal. Normal Sunday queues today, nothing out of the ordinary. This is West Midlands.

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to make an off site meeting later in the week. Now I'm annoyed I'm gonna have to go!

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 19:53

And London is well used to its issues not being national news (including being the only part of the UK to pay out more in tax than it gets back).

The public health housing emergency, for example.

Shmithecat2 · 03/10/2021 19:55

East Midlands here, not so bad now, managed to fill the car up today, no queues. But TBH, even if I couldn't, I wouldn't be talking about it anymore. It's boring and achieves nothing.

CMZ2018 · 03/10/2021 19:56

Been back to normal round here since about Thursday last week

CoronaPeroni · 03/10/2021 19:56

100 mile circle trip visiting relations in Essex today. Out of 6 garages,1 had fuel. We didn't need any but felt sorry for those looking today to get to work this week.

Tealightsandd · 03/10/2021 19:56

And actually in a way the world does revolve around it. Literally. What with Heathrow being an international hub and one of the world's busier airports.

Still, perhaps someone should tell Insulate Britain to end their focus on the south. Time for them to spread their message to a major traffic route up north, maybe.

Mothersister · 03/10/2021 19:57

No issues in the north.

JemimaPiddleDick · 03/10/2021 20:02

We aren’t talking about it because in the vast majority of the country it’s no longer an issue, it’s just the SE / London that seem to still be suffering and that’s probably down to the sense of entitlement that that region suffers from.
It may surprise you to learn but there is a whole world outside of the South East of England and by and large we don’t give two hoots about what happens down there, regardless of how much people from there seem to think the world revolves around them

Patapouf · 03/10/2021 20:03

Because it's boring and talking about it actually makes the problem worse not better?

Brexit has fucked us for cheap labour so I think shortages are going to be the new normal. Panic buying doesn't have to be though!! And all of this would have been avoided if people didn't get hysterical, there was and is plenty of bloody petrol.
