To ask why we aren’t talking about the fuel anymore?

We still have all our petrol stations empty, there has been the odd delivery but all the pumps have empty signs very quickly.

It doesn’t seem to be on the news anymore, are we just accepting that this is how we now live?

Normal where I live now

Vindo · 03/10/2021 19:01

I think it's only a couple of specific areas now so has fallen off the national news.

Seems to be back to normal where I am in Scotland.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/10/2021 19:01

@BeeTweep

I thought it was starting to resolve itself now. I got petrol in Cambridge today, no queue.
where???? I'm just outside Cambridge and it's a nightmare getting diesel.

DH went to the office on Thursday and tried several petrol stations on the way, none of them had any petrol or diesel (his car is petrol).

@JADS

Maybe the media isn't as London centric as everyone thinks?

Still issues round here (SE), but you can get fuel if you are happy to queue.

Not where I am. They are all Empty and shut.

nordica · 03/10/2021 19:04

There are about 20 posts a day about it in my local area FB group. In London and it's amazing how many people absolutely depend on their cars... not like we have about 10 different public transport routes available.

It's also been on the BBC all day.

Crunchymum · 03/10/2021 19:04

To the posters who keep posting "all normal where I am, can't understand the fuss" can you please take into consideration that things are still quite dire in some places.

I guess it's dropped out if the news as it was creating even more demand.

shhhhdog · 03/10/2021 19:08

@WayneBruce

The media are having a rest before they launch their next panic buyng episode.

It's pigs in blankets and Turkey's next don't ya know.

Yep - just like this DM headline from yesterday.... we are going to be without food for MONTHS Could they be any more dramatic? And will this and other media outlets now stoke the fires for panic buying - of course they will: it's so irresponsible

London exists outside central.

And there are many many people who can't easily use public transport. As well as various jobs that require a car to get around, there are elderly and disabled people, carers, people attending hospital appointments who aren't well enough to go by public transport, etc.

Also the public transport in London is pretty much at capacity. Already overcrowded, there's little room for a sudden massive extra demand.

rslsys · 03/10/2021 19:09

Sod all in Norfolk! Popped into Morrisons last night and was told to park in the Disabled bays if I was just shopping as the main car park had been given over to the fuel queue. I asked how long I would be if I was in the fuel queue to be told they would run out before the last car got to the pumps!

Macncheeseballs · 03/10/2021 19:12

Tealights, although that is exactly what they want people to do in cities, use public transport, private car use and ownership is on the way out

Hillary17 · 03/10/2021 19:12

North west - back to normal. We hardly noticed a difference honestly, the odd extra car and limit on spend. But didn’t see any empty stations.

That's a relief- I'm going to Cambridge tomorrow
generalh · 03/10/2021 19:14

Never really had an issue since Tuesday in my neck of the woods...South Wales.

Squirrelblanket · 03/10/2021 19:16

It's an issue mainly affecting the SE/London now.

I know it's hard to cope with an issue affecting SE/London not being national news for a change but you will just have to get on with it. Like the rest of the country does most of the time.

lindjam · 03/10/2021 19:16

I am bottom of the red so cannot get to work until my closest petrol station is open again. South coast here.

It's all anyone here is talking about - huge impact on people and incredibly stressful.

snowspider · 03/10/2021 19:17

It seems pretty much resolved here, though I think it was not too bad here at any point. I filled up today for the first time, no queue and most of the pumps open. Wales.

Libertaire · 03/10/2021 19:18

I went into Loughborough today. No queues at Tesco, Sainsbury’s or BP.

Realistically what else can be said about it ? If the military are being used to deliver supplies then is it just a matter of waiting ?
Tempusfudgeit · 03/10/2021 19:20

Try joining your local Next Door, there are lots of people on there sharing real time information about which garages have fuel/queues.

OrangeSamphire · 03/10/2021 19:21

The south east has the highest number of vehicles per household of all the regions.

And the highest average salary behind London (where many people in the south east work) and the east of England.

Doesn’t take a genius…

sausagepastapot · 03/10/2021 19:21

I'm SE, one of three petrol station open with fuel on my way to x, all three petrol stations shut and empty on my way back.

fiftiesmum · 03/10/2021 19:26

But Boris says there is no shortage of fuel therefore every thing must be double plus good with no shortage of fuel

FWBNC · 03/10/2021 19:27

I'm SE too, nearest stations all closed. One had some fuel on Friday, limit of £35, which will do me for a about 2-3 work days ( need my car FOR work, not just commuting). I'm
Off tomorrow, so hoping it's sorted itself out later in the week. I think it will be as all the 'panic, must fill the car for it to sit on the drive for weeks' type buyers should be full by now & only people who would usually be filling up buying it 🤞🏼

110APiccadilly · 03/10/2021 19:30

I'm in Wales, all seems pretty normal here - local petrol station still asking for maximum spend of £20 but no queues or closed pumps etc.
