To have asked DH to buy my youknows?

Is it unreasonable able to ask a man to buy youknows when they are going out to the shop anyway? It’s not an extra trip, to buy whilst already there?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 09:07

How about fanny pads?
At least he'd get a general idea about what you were wanting
Did he not want to buy them?

HummingBeeBox · 02/10/2021 09:07

@FrankieDobie you are fine to call them what you like but you surely must realise we wouldn't know what you were on about, although I could guess. As the topic was embarrassment it looked like you were also embarrassed and being hypocritical to your dh I think.

NeverSurrender · 02/10/2021 09:07

@SylvanianFrenemies

DH will buy my whatjamicallims, whatsits and thingmybobs, but he draws the line at youknows.

I wouldn't ask as I'm pretty sure he'd come back with the wrong ones, I'm quite particular with my tampons.

dementedpixie · 02/10/2021 09:08

@PlonkyWillyWonky

You call them whatever you are comfortable calling them *@FrankieDobie*, it's really nobody else's business
She made it our business by using the term in a post without specifying what the item was
SunshineCake1 · 02/10/2021 09:09

The point of this thread is.....?

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 02/10/2021 09:09

It’s not “anger” you’re seeing, OP — I don’t think a single person replying to you is angry

grapewine · 02/10/2021 09:10

@FrankieDobie

Sorry I was brought up calling them that, I meant tampons
This is actually pathetic from an adult. Use the actual words. It's not a swear word.
Lalliella · 02/10/2021 09:10

I think you might need to be a bit more specific about what you actually want if you want your DH to buy them for you. He can hardly go into a shop and look for the youknows section can he?

mrsbitaly · 02/10/2021 09:10

No not at all but I don't think my husband will do it again after dropping a box of tampons in the car park and then having to run around collecting them all 🤣

accentdusoleil · 02/10/2021 09:11

I'd love to know what you refer to bodily parts and sex acts

Have you never discussed this with friends or in PSHE at school? Seems strange that you would still use that phrase as so outdated

turndownthevolume · 02/10/2021 09:11

@FrankieDobie I get that the responses have been a bit harsh and sorry if it's upset you. it's just that still, to this day, there's so much shame and embarrassment about periods and being afraid to use words like tampon and sanitary towel contributes to that. My DD started her period recently and was so embarrassed to talk about it, even to me, and I was kind of appalled that in 2021 it's still a thing. She's had tonnes of PSHE lessons about it and of course we've talked about it as well but that shame still seems really ingrained on a societal level. So, I think that's where the outrage on this thread comes through. My DM talked about 'the curse' throughout my childhood. It's absolutely nuts but it hasn't disappeared.

In response to your original op though, totally totally fine to ask your DP to buy tampons for you,

MakingM · 02/10/2021 09:11

YANBU but be prepared for belly laughs when DH bumps into a colleague who is passing through the you-knows department and red-facedly fumbles dropping great quantities all over the floor 😂

Doyoumind · 02/10/2021 09:11

Yanbu asking anyone to buy tampons.

Yabvu to refer to tampons as youknows. Grown up.

Strawbsaturno · 02/10/2021 09:11

So did he get them or not?
DH would and has bought tampons several times and maternity pads. He as also bought incontinence stuff for his own parents because it’s just normal healthcare products, not shameful or anything.

mrsbitaly · 02/10/2021 09:11

Don't justify yourself you don't need to people are being a**holes

Lol. I once did this on a date.
BigFatLiar · 02/10/2021 09:12

I've told dd to never get involved with any man who is squeamish or ridiculous about buying sanitary protection for her. We call it the 'tampon test' Grin

Will make it easy at Christmas/birthdays, he'll know what to get her.

Newmumatlast · 02/10/2021 09:13

Have said yanbu as it isnt unreasonable to ask. Yabu to call them you knows. And to be fair if even you are embarrassed to say the actual words on an anonymous online forum full of people who no doubt use and buy them, then no wonder you have a hard time asking your partner to get them - especially if he has similar embarrassment about everyday things

AhNowTed · 02/10/2021 09:13

@FrankieDobie

Call them what you want at home, but why on earth would you call them that on an Internet forum?

I mean, I was brought up with front bottoms and winkies, but lm an adult now!

Subbaxeo · 02/10/2021 09:14

@FrankieDobie

Wow so much anger over a simple word! 😳 my mum always called them that so I’ve grown up calling them that, sorry!

It’s just like DH was brought up calling his glasses his gogs. And my stepdad calls the tv remote the dofer

Yes but who would know what you meant if you just casually threw dodger into a conversation? I’d think it was a nickname for dildo!
Subbaxeo · 02/10/2021 09:14

*dofer

Quite!

TheVolturi · 02/10/2021 09:16

Actually YouKnows is a good name for a sanitary product. I can just see the ad for it, with a dubbed voice saying smugly, because only You Know...
