To have asked DH to buy my youknows?

Is it unreasonable able to ask a man to buy youknows when they are going out to the shop anyway? It’s not an extra trip, to buy whilst already there?

Fine to ask OP.

AryaStarkWolf · 06/10/2021 13:43

@SylvanianFrenemies

DH will buy my whatjamicallims, whatsits and thingmybobs, but he draws the line at youknows.

DH buys me youknows. I have even sent him out specifically just for youknows when I forgot to stock up before the big day. He even FaceTimed me showing me all the different brands as sending him out with a picture and specific product descriptions wasn't enough 😅 And no, he didn't buy a set of Allen keys at the same time, just the youknows.

44PumpLane · 06/10/2021 14:11

YABU to say "you knows"..... No, I don't know, as any adult referring to menstrual products surely uses words like "tampons" and "pads"?!

Cas112 · 06/10/2021 14:34

My boyfriend would make a special trip if needs be and I was struggling. He's a fully grown man and knows the anatomy of a woman cant be helped and is nothing to be embarrassed about.

EverdeRose · 06/10/2021 15:21

YABU to call them that. Periods and sanitary protection shouldn't be talked about in code with hushed voices incase the men folk hear, it's not dirty or shameful to menstrate.

No problem with asking him to pick up your tampons/pads.

Movinghouseatlast · 06/10/2021 16:53

I get that you have always called them this, but how in the name of arse do you expect the readers of this forum to know the little nicknames you give things?

LaikO · 06/10/2021 16:59

Jesus wept.

gogohm · 06/10/2021 17:06

Nothing wrong with asking men to buy sanitary protection, it's no different to asking them to pick up toothpaste or bacon.

Before they headed off to university, over breakfast dp mentioned he was off to the big supermarket did anyone want anything, my dd wanted tampax standard and his dd wanted tampax compact - talk about making it complicated but he dutifully brought them back for them, they certainly weren't embarrassed.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 06/10/2021 17:14

If I asked Dh to buy youknows, i’d get a very large selection of chocolate and junk food.

Hmm
FatFredsFriedEgg · 06/10/2021 17:22

I have to know. Why do so many people of a certain age seem to call a TV remote a 'doofer' or 'oofer-doofer'? My inlaws (early 80s now) have always called it that but I didn't realise it wasn't just a family saying of theirs. Is it from some comedian in the 50s or 60s maybe?

RaginaPhalange · 06/10/2021 17:38

My DH buys mine all the time so yanbu for asking him to get you them.

Yabu for not just calling them tampons/sanitary pads.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 06/10/2021 17:40

A “doofer” is a same as a “thingie”

Basically pass me the whatjamacallit. Or the “youknow” 😂 a generic name when no one can decide what it’s actually called. Back when remote controls were new and hadn’t made their way into common language.

Wike tells me it’s slang for “do for”

kinzarose · 06/10/2021 17:42

This has just reminded me that I once knew a woman who couldn't say bra, it was a "you know what" whispered in hushed tones and eyes simultaneously lowered to the chest. Quite odd.

FatFredsFriedEgg · 06/10/2021 17:50

A “doofer” is a same as a “thingie”

Is it ever used for something that isn't a remote control?

Isn't a thingie the same as a whatchamacallit shaped like a turnip?

PeriChristmas · 06/10/2021 21:45

@FrankieDobie

Wow so much anger over a simple word! 😳 my mum always called them that so I’ve grown up calling them that, sorry!

It’s just like DH was brought up calling his glasses his gogs. And my stepdad calls the tv remote the dofer

But we are not your family members OP Hmm
