To have asked DH to buy my youknows?

Is it unreasonable able to ask a man to buy youknows when they are going out to the shop anyway? It’s not an extra trip, to buy whilst already there?

YABU.

He's not a mindreader, if you want stuff from the shops, you need to tell him what that stuff is.

Offmyfence · 02/10/2021 08:50

@RickJames

Have I gone back in time??
Yes you have, you've woken up this morning and it's actually 1950!

Check the date on your phone 😂!

I thought the same though.

FrankieDobie · 02/10/2021 08:51

Sorry I was brought up calling them that, I meant tampons

If you have children, please bring them up calling them tampons Hmm

And yes, if I asked DP to buy me tampons he would. If I asked him for ‘you knows’ he’d probably bring me Prosecco.

hellothere007 · 02/10/2021 08:52

Sorry what

Seesawmummadaw · 02/10/2021 08:53

@Sprostongreen21

You are very unreasonable to ask him when you can’t bloody say it??

My dad had 3 daughters so wasn’t phased and bought ours if shopping and my partner has bought mine. Periods and sanitary wear aren’t taboo. Ffs.

Agree. My dad used to, my Dh does even my teen sons do for their sister. They even use the correct words!
Brollywasntneededafterall · 02/10/2021 08:53

Dh calls them weekend spoilers!! He is more than happy to go get some!!

Time to turn adult and call them tampons. Don't see any issue in a partner buying them.

But it seems you both have a trance attitude to something totally everyday and normal.

ballsdeep · 02/10/2021 08:54

Well you're clearly not nature enough to buy them yourself FFS!

Who on earth calls them that?!

EvilRingahBitch · 02/10/2021 08:55

Much easier nowadays for someone to pick something unfamiliar up for you at the shops because you can WhatsApp them a screen shot of the exact packaging without them having to spend ages checking all of the ninety seven slightly different brands on offer, sniffing them to check they don't smell like a minicab air freshener and almost inevitably come back with discreetly labelled incontinence pads.

Although of course maybe incontinence pads is what you actually want - because you didn't say.

RampantIvy · 02/10/2021 08:55

After I had DD she wouldn't feed, so we were in hospital for 5 days. I had run out of maternity pads so I had to ask DH to buy some more. I doubt very much that he was the first new father buying maternity pads in the hospital shop.

I have never heard of the term "youknows". Is it regional?

BarbaraofSeville · 02/10/2021 08:55

@SylvanianFrenemies

DH will buy my whatjamicallims, whatsits and thingmybobs, but he draws the line at youknows.

Oh dear OP. You must be new here if you didn't realise how your post would go down.

But I still can't work out if its you who is bashful about talking about sanitary protection, your DH who has a problem with grocery shopping or we've all got the wrong end of the stick and your 'youknows' are something that is actually embarrassing or shameful. Like a copy of the Daily Mail and some battery farmed eggs when you can afford organic?

Riada · 02/10/2021 08:55

@FrankieDobie

Yeah, well, I was brought up by my mother to refer to periods as ‘the other old thing’, but I’m an adult now and am allowed not to use nutty euphemisms for a normal bodily process…?
LibrariesGiveUsPower45321 · 02/10/2021 08:56

You knows? YABU to call whatever it is that. I’m assuming sanitary protection.

YANBU to ask partner to buy you tampons or whatever

AgentProvocateur · 02/10/2021 08:56

Jesus wept. Tampons. Towels. Not that difficult, is it?

PlonkyWillyWonky · 02/10/2021 08:56

I'm going to use 'you knows' from now on
Be fun to see what people get me

DressBitch · 02/10/2021 08:56

Why?

remodelideas · 02/10/2021 08:57

If you have girls OP, please don't encourage them to call them that!!

lunar1 · 02/10/2021 08:57

DH would do an extra trip to buy them on their own if needed, he wouldn't need telling which ones to get as he does most of the shopping anyway.

Why on earth wouldn't he?

But I honestly understand why your husband wouldn't feel comfortable if you are so uncomfortable with sanitary products.

Fizbosshoes · 02/10/2021 08:58

Me and my teen DD call refer to it as san pro. I know the brand she likes. If DH was shopping we would be more specific and he would get some.

FrankieDobie · 02/10/2021 08:58

Wow so much anger over a simple word! 😳 my mum always called them that so I’ve grown up calling them that, sorry!

It’s just like DH was brought up calling his glasses his gogs. And my stepdad calls the tv remote the dofer

The fact that you can't even bring yourself to type the word indicates issues with maturity. If you mean tampons then absolutely fine to ask him to do so, if you mean My Little Pony magazines then no.
