London still out of fuel - because it doesn't vote Tory

Where I live, South London, it is still impossible to get fuel. Most petrol stations are closed, the ones that are open have hours-long queues. The queueing cars are blocking the roads, it's a nightmare.

Every news outlet keeps saying the crisis is easing. I don't see any signs of that. It's pure gaslighting. I get it, media try not to report shortages in order not to cause shortages, but I'd like some actual information, not lies?

What I think is that the Tory government will prioritise, in terms of fixing the supply chain breakdowns, the areas of the country that vote Tory, and will abandon metropolitan areas that increasingly shift to the left in their voting patterns.

AIBU - Tory don't care about London - or Manchester (anyone?); it's not their base
YANBU - where there is fuel and where there isn't is completely random

I’m in Manchester, which is pretty much as red as it gets. The situation is very clearly easing and several of my local garages have fuel.

Dragongirl10 · 01/10/2021 14:40

Tory area here and no fuel.......

Singinghollybob · 01/10/2021 14:42

I'm in a stronghold labour area and haven't had any trouble getting petrol

Marmite27 · 01/10/2021 14:46

You could put a red rosette on a donkey and it’d get voted in here.

No issues with fuel, I’ve been passed the 4 petroleum stations in our local area today, yes there were people filling up, but they weren’t busy at all.

The government have nothing to do with fuel delivery logistics and planning.
The more population dense areas are having the greater issues with fuel.
There is plenty of fuel in the country.
The demand for fuel is double of usual forecasts.
People are topping up small amounts, not typical behaviour, causing queues.
No one area of the country is being constrained or treated less fairly.

Nightlystroll · 01/10/2021 16:02

Difficult to get petrol in my strongly Conservative constituency. My sister went to neighbouring labour constituency for a business meeting this morning and filled up no problem.

2bazookas · 01/10/2021 16:05

Plenty of fuel here (Scotland) but hardly any Tories.

frogface69 · 01/10/2021 16:09

Yet another London thread with a nod to Manchester so it doesn’t look like it.
Fuck off OP

MrsFin · 01/10/2021 16:18

"London out of fuel because it doesn't vote Tory "

Rubbish. North Wiltshire has one of the biggest Tory majorities in the country - all 5 garages closest to me have no fuel today, nor yesterday.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/10/2021 16:48

I doubt it.

And London certainly isn't neglected by the government. If you want to see neglect look up north.

user1493494961 · 01/10/2021 16:57

There are too many people living London.

bizboz · 01/10/2021 17:02

I live in a true blue area of Essex and there is no petrol here. It won't stop the locals voting Tory either.

HungryHippo11 · 01/10/2021 17:08

Very safe Tory seat here. No fuel in any of the local stations.

mondayschild21 · 01/10/2021 17:12

I don't see the connection. I live in an area which even elected a known alcoholic as a Tory MP for over 20 years and there have been queues. There seems to be a bit of a north-south divide for availability.

romany4 · 01/10/2021 17:28

West Yorkshire..Tory area
No fuel here..

Sparklybanana · 01/10/2021 17:32

Hmm, some people really do look at panda and can be convinced that it's a tiger....

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 20:10

@Waxonwaxoff0

I doubt it.

Irrelevant to the fuel crisis (which I don't think is to do with who votes what) but you don't get more neglected than being homeless.

And London is the capital of homelessness by far.

womaninatightspot · 01/10/2021 20:13

@Saz12

I’m in Scotland, no significant petrol issues. Also no Tory voters...!
No diesel to be had at any of my local garages. Rural so lots of 4x4s in north of Scotland
Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/10/2021 20:16

@Tealightsandd yes, housing costs in London are ridiculous though. Homelessness is a problem all over the country. No denying that things like public transport are funded better in London than anywhere else though.

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 20:17

There should be better public transport across the country.

likeacandleinthewind · 01/10/2021 21:18

Quite right Tea. I have little option but to drive where I live.

welshladywhois40 · 01/10/2021 21:21

Have you considered that maybe London isn't a priority due to availability of public transport?

Imagine what's it like in a rural area with very little public transport - I hope they are getting more deliveries
