London still out of fuel - because it doesn't vote Tory

Where I live, South London, it is still impossible to get fuel. Most petrol stations are closed, the ones that are open have hours-long queues. The queueing cars are blocking the roads, it's a nightmare.

Every news outlet keeps saying the crisis is easing. I don't see any signs of that. It's pure gaslighting. I get it, media try not to report shortages in order not to cause shortages, but I'd like some actual information, not lies?

What I think is that the Tory government will prioritise, in terms of fixing the supply chain breakdowns, the areas of the country that vote Tory, and will abandon metropolitan areas that increasingly shift to the left in their voting patterns.

AIBU - Tory don't care about London - or Manchester (anyone?); it's not their base
YANBU - where there is fuel and where there isn't is completely random

I'm in North London and it's awful here. All petrol stations in the surrounding area closed, but I managed to find one a bit further away and stood in a queue for an hour but thankfully managed to get a full tank. It was very scary though

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 01/10/2021 02:07

London doesn't vote Tory

Testingprof · 01/10/2021 02:28

@Watchingyou2sleezes

The only reason London is out of fuel is because the populace is thick.
I’d love to know how you’ve come to that conclusion?
Lex345 · 01/10/2021 03:33

Strong Labour area where we are and although there have been busier forecourts and a couple of petrol stations are empty locally (weirdly this has got worse this week, whereas weekend was relatively calm), you can still get fuel here. It does look like the South has been affected a lot more though (I am generalising, I am sure there are lots of areas up north that are affected).

Second the view you are giving the government too much credit to be able to organise such a plot, at short notice. Although accidental shortage does appear to be their lane.

msbevvy · 01/10/2021 03:44

Where I live in East London there aren't many petrol stations left because a lot have been sold off to make way for blocks of flats.

Porcupineintherough · 01/10/2021 03:56

If London is out of fuel its population can use the excellent and heavily subsidised public transport netwrk to get around. Try doing that in the provinces.

plinkplinkfizzer · 01/10/2021 04:17

The answer is simple London panicked more than any where else .

notHarris · 01/10/2021 05:21

@MiddleEasternMummy

I live in Liverpool . This is a staunch labour supporting city . Absolutely no problem getting fuel !!
Yep fully agree with this! Sorry you've been badly hit, it sounds awful. I found initially Liverpool was worse than the area my family lives in (town rather than a city) but better than areas in the south, so I'd blame population density and number of cars per area...... rather than political leaning.
itsgettingwierd · 01/10/2021 05:27

I'm in a very Tory stronghold area.

Nada petrol anywhere.

At least last week you could queue for it.

ohfook · 01/10/2021 05:31

I'm in a Labour stronghold and we're been largely ok throughout this. A few empty pumps but nothing major.

For once I don't think this is something the tories can be blamed for.

anon12345678901 · 01/10/2021 05:32

I'm in a Tory area and we have hardly any petrol So no you're wrong.

Pokhora · 01/10/2021 05:39

It is purely down to the balance between supply and demand. It looks like areas with higher levels of economic activity so more car use are suffering more. On the supply side I don't know if tanker drivers cover the UK or work regionally/locally. If the latter maybe it is harder to recruit them in London/SE due to tighter labour supply.

Wabola · 01/10/2021 05:47

There maybe isn't as many fuel stations, in our town there are five within a two mile area so it has not been as bad.

traumatisednoodle · 01/10/2021 05:47

I think people in London changed thier habits more than elsewhere. Lots of Londoners have cars they barely use, so all of those people rushing to fill up caused the problem.

DoraMaude · 01/10/2021 05:47

I live in a safe Tory seat in London. There's no fuel anywhere. You're talking nonsense!

Sitchervice · 01/10/2021 06:08

This seems to be a baiting post...
Is that a fish pole I see?

Sunshinebuttercups · 01/10/2021 06:18

I’m in a Tory Shire - think a donkey with a blue rosette would win an election.

Most of the petrol stations empty, huge queues for the ones that get fuel.

Noogar · 01/10/2021 06:21

London is where there are most cars so of course it will take longer to ease off

Loudestcat14 · 01/10/2021 06:26

I’m in a Labour-voting London borough and filled up yesterday after about a half an hour wait in a perfectly civilised queue. I think your suggestion is faintly ridiculous because it’s the fuel companies organising where deliveries go, not Boris personally!

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/10/2021 06:26

Lol at the reduction going on.

Maybe a lot of Londoners, who rarely use their cars keep filling up and creating the shortage? Moreover London is very very population dense. I live near a motorway and can get to the motorway services within about 10 mins. Additionally, 10 mins down the road and near to another motorway junction, there are 4 filling stations within about half a mile of one another and fields shortly after that. I’m sure the Tories didn’t plan that for us. But as a result, we have no shortages.

Your house is very probably worth more than mine. But I have more filling stations available to me. Location location location.

Glaghirl · 01/10/2021 06:27

I'm in Scotland where the Tories are loathed and filled up with no queues yesterday

Sn0tnose · 01/10/2021 06:34

Tory stronghold here. Not a drop of petrol to be had anywhere. And whenever a rumour of a delivery is heard, the queues cause complete gridlock meaning buses also grind to a halt.

The Tories don’t give a shit about anybody unless they went to the same private school, whether they vote Tory or not, but it is utterly laughable to think that our current lot could arrange an orchestrated plot to penalise non Tory voting areas by convincing the petrol companies to prioritise deliveries to Tory strongholds.

Also, I know you may find this hard to believe because London is, imo, the best city in the world. But not everything is about London.

chocolateorangeinhaler · 01/10/2021 06:35

There is no fuel in London because lots of people in London are buying it. Some unnecessarily. 🤷. That's not down to voting preferences.

There is a conspiracy theory going round that says due to the fall in sales of fuel over lockdown the fuel is going to go off and if used damage engines. They need to sell it quickly, the gov don't want to lose out on all the tax from it either. It can't be poured down the drain so surprise surprise there is suddenly a 'shortage' everyone panicked and the old stock is getting used up just as fuel companies wanted. Also rather handy for quickly getting rid of all the E5 petrol and only E10 being available. Gov can legit say we are reducing emissions. Handy that.

Ploorfuzzle · 01/10/2021 06:35

@GianaSister

Sorry, are you seriously saying the government doesn’t care about London? You think London is down towards the bottom of the list compared to other cities in the UK? Are you for real?
Haha exactly, London is centre of their universe.
the80sweregreat · 01/10/2021 06:37

I'm live in a Tory stronghold and the queues are massive everywhere and it's not improving really !
