London still out of fuel - because it doesn't vote Tory

Where I live, South London, it is still impossible to get fuel. Most petrol stations are closed, the ones that are open have hours-long queues. The queueing cars are blocking the roads, it's a nightmare.

Every news outlet keeps saying the crisis is easing. I don't see any signs of that. It's pure gaslighting. I get it, media try not to report shortages in order not to cause shortages, but I'd like some actual information, not lies?

What I think is that the Tory government will prioritise, in terms of fixing the supply chain breakdowns, the areas of the country that vote Tory, and will abandon metropolitan areas that increasingly shift to the left in their voting patterns.

AIBU - Tory don't care about London - or Manchester (anyone?); it's not their base
YANBU - where there is fuel and where there isn't is completely random

London is the capital of homelessness.

165,000 people are homeless in London. That is more than the entire populations of many UK towns.

MiddleEasternMummy · 01/10/2021 00:40

I live in Liverpool . This is a staunch labour supporting city .
Absolutely no problem getting fuel !!

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 00:41

this does seem to be hitting London and South East particularly hard.

This is probably one reason why.

The only reason London is out of fuel is because the populace is thick.

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 00:46

I have no idea why those people stay.

You answered your own question...

I can understand if people are tied to jobs, family etc

madisonbridges · 01/10/2021 00:50

@Tealightsandd
It's been reported across several media outlets that whilst bad in various parts of the country, London is bearing the brunt.

Reported by media outlets based in London.

Dreamstate · 01/10/2021 00:50

Um South London here, shell petrol station at top of my road has had fuel for days and noone is queuing or has been either

And? The reporters come from across the country (perhaps pricing out a Londoner, Beauty Spot style) - and they're reporting facts.

Although like I said in my later posts, the headlines are a little misleading

GianaSister · 01/10/2021 01:03

@Tealightsandd
London as a place to make money out of, maybe. Londoners, no.

That was the reason for the incredulity. The OP said the government doesn’t care about London. That would come as a surprise to the rest of the country.

Volhhg · 01/10/2021 01:10

Ha ha I wish we had a government with this much control and organisation to pull of a stunt like that.

madisonbridges · 01/10/2021 01:11

@Tealightsandd. To say london is bearing the brunt, isn't a fact. It's an opinion. And as people are stating on here, it isn't true in their part of London. Obviously if you live in London and have had problems getting petrol, you're going to think your area is the most hard done by. So that's what they print. Inward-looking london based media.

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 01:13

It's a fact - based on the level of fuel available.

Really?

That's very odd.

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 01:23

For the record I agree with pp on this.
It's more likely incompetence than deliberate.

Deliberate on the part of Insulate Britain though.

My Brexit voting, Tory loving area is still out, so I vote YABU
If there is one place the government gives half a fuck about, it's London.

madisonbridges · 01/10/2021 01:28

It can't be a fact because people on here who live in London have no problem getting fuel. So some areas are with and some areas ore without so they are transposing the problem in one area to be the given situation in all areas, which clearly isn't true. How do they even know the level of fuel in each area of the country to compare to? Its just typical London-centric journalism.

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 01:28

If there is one place the government gives half a fuck about, it's London.

It really isn't. Just as a vampire doesn't care about the source of his blood once he's had his fill.

JohnStonesMissus · 01/10/2021 01:31

My area has been a safe Tory seat since 1924, we've got no fuel anywhere..

To clarify- they care about London because of the money it generates as a city, they want to keep it moving and people working.
DPotter · 01/10/2021 01:42

I love a good conspiracy theory as well as the next, but this is definitely cock-up, not planned attempts to get anyone to vote Tory

Tealightsandd · 01/10/2021 01:48

The vampire 'levels up' to a new source.

You could stick a blue rosette on a pig here and it would romp home.

There’s been no diesel in my town for a whole 8 days.

BlusteryLake · 01/10/2021 01:58

I think if you're looking for conspiracy theories as to why London is short of fuel, then a much more credible one would be that it's a ruse to get people back onto public transport to prop up the ailing networks.
