London still out of fuel - because it doesn't vote Tory

Where I live, South London, it is still impossible to get fuel. Most petrol stations are closed, the ones that are open have hours-long queues. The queueing cars are blocking the roads, it's a nightmare.

Every news outlet keeps saying the crisis is easing. I don't see any signs of that. It's pure gaslighting. I get it, media try not to report shortages in order not to cause shortages, but I'd like some actual information, not lies?

What I think is that the Tory government will prioritise, in terms of fixing the supply chain breakdowns, the areas of the country that vote Tory, and will abandon metropolitan areas that increasingly shift to the left in their voting patterns.

AIBU - Tory don't care about London - or Manchester (anyone?); it's not their base
YANBU - where there is fuel and where there isn't is completely random

I'm in a Tory very safe seat. We have three petrol stations we use, one closeby, the other two near shops we use/on way from
work. All are without fuel. I just been trawling through social media trying to find stations that have petrol/diesel.

PieMistee · 01/10/2021 07:30

As a Northerner the idea that the government prioritises over places over London is quite insulting.

RelentlessForwardProgress · 01/10/2021 07:30

@steff13

If you're looking for a conspiracy theory, "Birds aren't Real" is a fun one.
@steff13...I had never heard of BIrds Aren't Real.

I have just spent half an hour in semi hysteria watching some of the You Tube Interviews.

"What would you say to me if I suggested that Birds Aren't Real is just satire?"
"Well you wouldn't say it was satire if I said Birds Are Real, would you?" Grin

Incognito22333 · 01/10/2021 07:31

YABU- this government doesn’t have any control, let alone to the extent you are imputing

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 01/10/2021 07:32

@catzfur

The fuel situation is dire in Grant Shapps constituency.
The fool situation is dire in Grant Schapps constituency too Grin
WeatherwaxOn · 01/10/2021 07:32

I'm in a very enthusiastically Tory voting area and petrol shortages are everywhere within at least a 10 mile radius.

daisybrown37 · 01/10/2021 07:32

I’m in Boris Johnson’s constituency and there is no petrol….

Ragwort · 01/10/2021 07:36

I live in a very Tory area but plenty of fuel .. it must be down to population density (some very interesting figures if you look at the population density charts).

DoormatBob · 01/10/2021 07:39

Definitely this. The OP sounds quite annoyed that fuel was allowed to cross the M25 border before London was back to normal.

Northern town here, all seems normal now. I went past 2 petrol stations yesterday with no queues. The whole population of panic buyers were out Friday/Saturday. One of the photos in the national press was from a local station.

Hdhdjejdj · 01/10/2021 07:39

Utterly ridiculous. Stop acting like a victim.

sst1234 · 01/10/2021 07:40

You don’t need the Tories to govern you badly. You have a terrible mayor and some of the worst councils in the country, like Croydon. Start there.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 01/10/2021 07:42

@Saz12

I’m in Scotland, no significant petrol issues. Also no Tory voters...!
Well, there’s about three. They all live in Morningside and have their annual conference in a phonebox.
FuzzyFuzz · 01/10/2021 07:43

Oh that's ridiculous.

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2021 07:43

Occam's Razor.

I do love the idea that people simultaneously think Johnson is a complete idiot whilst also accusing him of being some sort of Machiavellian genuis.

Johnson knows how to play the media. He has no idea how to run a country because he is incompetent. He doesn't know how systems run and he doesn't understand how things are connected.

He has demonstrated this time and again.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 01/10/2021 07:46

@Dreamstate

Um South London here, shell petrol station at top of my road has had fuel for days and noone is queuing or has been either
You need to say where! All garages within a 5 mile radius have none here, or if they have some, queues are over an hour long and causing gridlock. I live in a Conservative borough with no tube network, now buses are cancelled or diverted ... not the 'excellent public transport' people think!
Pinklioness · 01/10/2021 07:46

@msbevvy

Where I live in East London there aren't many petrol stations left because a lot have been sold off to make way for blocks of flats.
Yes that's a big problem here. Also, probably because a lot of people drive into London and so there's competition between people who just work here as well as people who live and work here.

Nothing to do with politics though, except if someone had any competence they might have tried to even up supplies across the country, rather than have ridiculous shortages in some areas and normal supplies in others.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 01/10/2021 07:50

Oh yes meant to say OP it's not a Tory/London thing.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 01/10/2021 07:50

@ShrikeAttack

Plus fuel logistics are not government controlled...
Well exactly this. The government isn't phoning up BP, Shell or the supermarkets telling them where to send their tankers.

What a twisted way of looking at the world.

Starryskiesinthesky · 01/10/2021 07:52

I hate the Tory's but dont believe this. I am in Scotland, the most anti-Tory country and we are fine for fuel. My petrol light came on yesterday and I wondered if it would be a problem but no, just went in the nearest Sainsburys, no queues, filled up and off I went. Think it must just be regionally but also areas where folk all panic and go out and act selfishly cant help.

Spiindoctor · 01/10/2021 07:54

What I think is that the Tory government will prioritise, in terms of fixing the supply chain breakdowns, the areas of the country that vote Tory

Well, this is what happens, I'm in a non SNP voting area of Scotland and may as well be on planet Mars as far as funding and the Scottish Gov are concerned.
This is normal unfortunately.

Coffeepot72 · 01/10/2021 07:54

I’m in a Tory area and, fingers crossed, things are easing?

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 07:54

Alot of people in london don't drive surely

Spiindoctor · 01/10/2021 07:55

It's a bit weird that London is doing so bad when it has a decent public transport structure.

MiddleEasternMummy · 01/10/2021 07:59

Torquewench , I went to Sainsbury's Rice Lane and had no issues .

Grenlei · 01/10/2021 08:01

I'm in one of the most staunchly tory boroughs in London.

We've had hour long queues for fuel for the past week, people are fighting on petrol station forecourts, and there's an increase in cases of petrol being siphoned from parked cars.

I think it's more because the majority of people where I live are inconsiderate arseholes, most of whom went and filled up cars they barely use last week, aggravating the current situation.
