to think that the fuel 'issue' is over?

I've been driving around a bit this morning and have passed a few garages that seem to have normal numbers of cars on their forecourts and the queues have gone. AIBU to think that it is over? Or is your area still struggling?

YABU - still problems here
YANBU - all over

(sorry for the poll- like requests, I've been overthinking it and confused myself)

Sussex is still as bad as it was a week ago…….

ejhhhhh · 01/10/2021 13:32

Whenever a petrol station anywhere near me gets petrol, it results in cars queing for hours, and roads gridlocked (meanings cars literally not moving, so it could take an hour to do 100m), or effectively closed. I'm so over this now. It's a nightmare if you need to get anywhere, and an even bigger nightmare if you need fuel. I thankfully haven't needed fuel myself throughout this crisis, but I will soon, and I don't know whether to try and join a que when petrol is available, or wait a bit longer and hope it improves. My colleague, who has to have fuel to get work as a key worker, was in a que for 6 hours on Thursday (supposedly her day off, what a way to spend it hey?). Although if the times when a petrol station does have fuel, don't coincide with my days off, I've no idea what I'll do. I can't believe there is zero help given to key workers. It's causing a lot of problems and stress for everyone, and their jobs are stressful enough at the moment.

ejhhhhh · 01/10/2021 13:38

That's SE London btw.

PeriChristmas · 01/10/2021 13:38

Nope. Not over here.

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 14:14

Redtoothbrush, surely the forthcoming zombie apocalypse will only affect car drivers, cities have quite a high percentage of people who don't own cars

bloodywhitecat · 01/10/2021 15:35

I finally managed to fill up and only a 5 minute queue, I am so relieved to have a full tank I almost cried!

Floralnomad · 01/10/2021 15:41

Our bit of Kent is as bad as ever .

Comedycook · 01/10/2021 15:49

In SE London and can't get anything. Apparently one petrol station in our area gets deliveries overnight and you can get some if you start at queuing at 5am! They have sold out by afternoon. I'm starting to run low now and getting worried

MajorCarolDanvers · 01/10/2021 15:57

There are no issues where I live. Fife Scotland.

Lightisnotwhite · 01/10/2021 16:09

As everyone said the SE is still empty. I’m considering driving a couple of counties over whilst I still have half a tank so I can fill up and do work next week.

Also the petrol station near me has helpfully put up fuel by 5p a litre. £1.43. Bastards. Can get it for £1.33 most places.

RedToothBrush · 01/10/2021 16:20

No it will be worse. At the moment only the would-be zombie drivers are out. Wait until you get the zombie walkers and worse still, the zombie cyclists shudder
GreatPotato · 01/10/2021 16:28

Friend has done 150 miles on the motorway today and every single petrol station was closed. So no, not quite over.

Our local stations do seem to be coping better though

julieca · 01/10/2021 16:35

I am beginning to get concerned. I will be fine this weekend, but if it is still the same by early next week, I will have to join one of those long queues as a station that still has petrol. And many of the people who got petrol last weekend will need to get it again.
Dp and I were just saying we would be stuffed if we were still having to do the weekly 350 mile round trip to my dying brother. Some people seem to think everyone only needs to get petrol occasionally, but lots of people do a lot of driving for work or family reasons.

TheFormidableMrsC · 01/10/2021 16:35

I had to drive into London yesterday. I sat for an hour not moving at one point because there was total gridlock due to a garage queue that wasn't being managed. Where I live in Herts, most garages have run out of fuel by mid morning. Every single day since last week this has been going on. It's absolutely ridiculous. So no, it might be ok where you are but certainly not here!

Mooloolabababy · 01/10/2021 16:54

No queues as my Tesco petrol station this evening. Straight in and out, not sure if there was any diesel or not though as I was just driving past. I'm East Mids.

Horst · 01/10/2021 17:01

I mean I know the lockdown comment was a joke but if those that wfh went back to wfh while this got sorted it would help 😅

mdh2020 · 01/10/2021 17:31

Definitely still a big problem in North London and, from what we have seen today, in Suffolk.

Fleshmechanic · 01/10/2021 17:32

My daughters after school football club was cancelled today because the coach couldn't get any petrol to travel to the school (in Dover). So it's definitely not over here. Hopefully it doesn't affect the main teachers, I can't go back to homeschooling 😆.

Fernticket · 01/10/2021 17:33

No fuel where I am (Welsh/English border)

DagenhamRoundhouse · 01/10/2021 18:21

Normal queues, maybe a bit busier than usual, at the Shell Chipping Norton.

csigeek · 01/10/2021 18:28

Went to morrisons today and the petrol station was closed

snowflake29f · 01/10/2021 18:46

It was all media hype. It caused a run on petrol stations across the country . Two stations were out of petrol because protesters were blocking the road . Trying to blame HGV issues when they need a complete different license, family of HGV drivers . Normally stations know how many gallons they sell in a week unfortunately because of stock piling unnecessary fill ups plus cans it’s caused the need for more deliveries. Now they are playing catch up it’s really that easy to cause mayhem

daviesbrownsmithgreen · 01/10/2021 18:50

South Yorkshire and drove past several petrol stations that are fully opening with barely any queues. In our area it seems to be over!

wellstopdoingitthen · 01/10/2021 18:52

I'm in London & our local (6) garages are still out of petrol - some have diesel but no queues as everyone knows there's no point.

chocolateoranges33 · 01/10/2021 19:05

Not over where I am.

5 petrol stations in our town for about 90,000 people. Most run out of fuel on Tuesday and have had no deliveries since.

The 1 independent has mostly had fuel everyday but average queues are around an hour. Most people round here use diesel too as that's what runs out first.

Very limited public transport and not on a train route either. I'm on the south coast.
