to think that the fuel 'issue' is over?

I've been driving around a bit this morning and have passed a few garages that seem to have normal numbers of cars on their forecourts and the queues have gone. AIBU to think that it is over? Or is your area still struggling?

YABU - still problems here
YANBU - all over

(sorry for the poll- like requests, I've been overthinking it and confused myself)

I think it depends where you live, certainly not over in London.

user1468761869 · 02/10/2021 07:46

Every forecourt near I live have queues for miles or are closed. I live in Harrow.

Intercity225 · 02/10/2021 08:28

Around 9 pm Thursday night, DH called in at a rural petrol station, where normally he is the only customer. He said each pump had a queue of 4 cars, such that people on the other side of the road could not turn in - they had to give up.

Flakjacketon · 02/10/2021 08:53

I think it depends where your live, the time of day and the type of fuel you need. I live in a rural Lincolnshire, we have 3 garages in the vicinity; I have tried 3 times to get fuel since Thursday - on 2 occasions 2 garages were closed and the third only had unleaded and I drive a diesel. Yesterday afternoon all three were closed. I no longer have enough fuel to leave the area in search of fuel. My neighbour says that there is no real problem 'you just have to queue a bit ' but she drives a petrol car and has been fortunate enough to try when the garages have had fuel.

Barney60 · 02/10/2021 09:01

E Mids rural, 3 garages within my drive to work all had fuel. I filled up yesterday, i DO need to fuel to get to work it will last me 1.5 weeks.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/10/2021 09:03

Not around here (SW London) alas.

blimppy · 02/10/2021 09:09

No over in leafy Berkshire no petrol to be had in my town.

1mx1mChocolateBrownie · 02/10/2021 09:26

@RoseMartha

Not here either south east.

Although its nothing like last Fri/Sat was.

Slightly better now people are not posting all over fb where the last delivery was. Whole town came to a standstill

I got my first lot of petrol since the 20th of Sept yesterday. I know this sounds ridiculous but I was a bit traumatised that I had to go to a busy garage out of my comfort zone but I managed. And only had to wait about five mins in the queue.

Do really mean traumatised or do you mean it was a distressing experience!?

Real trauma isn't sitting in a petrol queue! It might be anxiety provoking but it's far from traumatic. Misuse of the word trauma is rife atm.

@Autumn101

Sussex is still as bad as it was a week ago…….
I'm in Sussex too. All 6 petrol stations within 3 miles of my town were closed yesterday and when a friend came over from Brighton in the afternoon, she passed another 3 or 4, and they were all closed. It's worse here than it was a week ago.

I've hardly used my car this week, and have 3/4 of a tank, and I doubt if I'll use it much before Thursday, when I'm having knee surgery and won't be able to drive for at least a couple of weeks. I feel very fortunate.

People who need to use their cars to get to work, or to do their work, must be so pissed off. It's all very well to moan about panic buying, but I can understand people brimming their tanks at every opportunity when they have no alternative to using their cars/vans, and no idea when they might next get a chance to fill up.

Diditreallylookawful · 02/10/2021 09:43

NW here. Got diesel yesterday no problems. Straight into petrol station with no queues and no limit. This was an ESSO station - they seem to have fared slightly better than the Morrisons about 200 yards away which had long queues during the week which the ESSO station didn't.

LakieLady · 02/10/2021 09:47

@julieca

The government is allowing HGV drivers to the UK to solve this fuel crisis, whilst also saying at the same time the fuel crisis does not exist. They have also been training military personnel to drive fuel tankers. Why do all this if there really was not a fuel crisis?
And I very much suspect that by the time either of those measures have any effect, the problem will have largely subsided.

Usual approach from this government, take action, but too little and too late.

TheDogsMother · 02/10/2021 09:54

Also in Sussex and there's nothing for miles. I'm on a local Facebook group with people reporting any availability they see right across the county.

LIZS · 02/10/2021 10:01

Apparently overnight tankers have got to at least two of the local garages which had been closed for days. Hopefully once everyone has their fill it will calm down a bit.

HalzTangz · 02/10/2021 10:03

Where I am most stations are closed due to no fuel. Throne place that was open had queues

Proudboomer · 02/10/2021 10:08

Another Sussex resident here. My local garage was expecting a delivery this morning but has updated his Facebook page to say the delivery has been put back until Monday. Asda and Tesco have long queues if and when they get any fuel.
I only have a little left and can’t afford to waste it going On a fuel hunt so will wait and see if my local does indeed get his delivery but I will need to find fuel by the end of the week as I have a king journey to do that can’t be cancelled and would be a nightmare to do if I had to take a train.

Floralnomad · 02/10/2021 10:32

The Tesco garage near us had petrol delivered overnight , opened at 6 am and was completely sold out by 9 am complete with , according to the local FB group 45 minute queues just to get into the car park queueing system that they have got sorted out . It’s an utterly ridiculous carry on , my husband has just gone out to run errands with instructions to fill the car up if he sees any garage that has petrol where he can queue safely .

Does your husband really have to be sent out with instructions!?

pollymere · 02/10/2021 10:50

Most of the petrol stations here have fuel but people are still queuing to get it.

Floralnomad · 02/10/2021 11:14

@1mx1mChocolateBrownie , it was said in a lighthearted type of way in that he can queue rather than me having to find somewhere next week . He only uses the car about once a week so getting petrol is generally my responsibility as on a normal week I use the car daily .

nancy75 · 02/10/2021 11:20

SE London still a nightmare here. Very few places with fuel & those that do have huge queues (friend queued for 3 hours yesterday - her dad is in hospital & she needs to be able to use the car at short notice)
Buses being diverted & roads closed whenever there is a fuel delivery due to the size of the queues

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 02/10/2021 11:46

No petrol in any of our local places (East London). One did have a delivery on Friday morning, but it was gone and closed again within hours. It’s certainly not over here.

FanGirlX · 02/10/2021 11:51

I'm currently in the Lakes. We got £35 this morning, queued behind one car for a couple of minutes. I think capping the purchases at £35 is sensible as it means there is more to go round.

Finzi · 02/10/2021 11:53

News reports are saying that the crisis is getting worse in the SE. It certainly seems that way in my town (Berkshire). www.bbc.co.uk/news/58772169

FanGirlX · 02/10/2021 12:19

I know this thread is anecdotal but it looks like the problems are mostly SE?

1-2 car queues and caps of £35 elsewhere but otherwise no problems filling up?
