to think that the fuel 'issue' is over?

I've been driving around a bit this morning and have passed a few garages that seem to have normal numbers of cars on their forecourts and the queues have gone. AIBU to think that it is over? Or is your area still struggling?

YABU - still problems here
YANBU - all over

(sorry for the poll- like requests, I've been overthinking it and confused myself)

The only petrol stations without queues here are ones without petrol & diesel. Which is most of them.

I'm in the SE.

Horst · 30/09/2021 12:31

No diesel here this morning east anglia.

BuffaloHigh · 30/09/2021 12:36

Looks like it’s worse in the SE. I’m in Surrey. Tried 7 petrol stations yesterday, only one had fuel and that ran out before I could get any.
I walked past 2 this morning. 1 had no petrol, the other had a queue so big it’s caused traffic chaos.

morechocolateneededtoday · 30/09/2021 12:37

Not even close in London. Can't get out of my driveway because of the queue of people for the petrol station 300m down the road. School run absolutely impossible for those that drive because queues for fuel are blocking entire roads. Buses driving wrong side of road to avoid them, multiple accidents and pedestrians have been hit and seriously injured too.
Horrific

LucyGrey · 30/09/2021 12:41

I think the south of the country has been hit harder then the north. It's not AS bad here I don't think. DH was able to get fuel yesterday at a Sainsbury's station in the middle of town (Greater Manchester).

ItRainedForever · 30/09/2021 12:42

Today is actually the first day when we (a non-car-owning family) have been inconvenienced - solid traffic queueing for a petrol station on DD's route to school meant buses were being diverted and she ended up having to get a train instead. Problems on other local routes as well, I hear.

bloodywhitecat · 30/09/2021 12:43

Not over here, no garage near me has fuel and I am not prepared to risk what little petrol I have playing Hunt Petrol.

Amandasummers · 30/09/2021 12:43

It’s bedlam in East Hertfordshire! Definitely not over.

CarryOnNurse20 · 30/09/2021 12:44

We have been lucky in NW suburb its never been that bad. Some long queues but both times I've been able to fill up within 10 mins (once limited to £35 which is far!). It looks wild in some areas really feel for those badly affected. its frightening the thought of running out.

Watchingyou2sleezes · 30/09/2021 12:45

Driven 90 miles this morning across East Anglia and East Midlands saw 2 garages closed with tankers actually making deliveries at the time , all the other garages open as normal, very little queuing etc

The media have played a disgraceful part in whipping up this nonsense out of nothing.

TheCrowFromBelow · 30/09/2021 12:45

No petrol round us, in SE. When there is a delivery there are massive queues which gridlock the town centre and they run out in less than a day.
I have half a tank but I am actually getting fairly anxious about next week, we live rurally and rely on the car, public transport is expensive and infrequent.

Dentistlakes · 30/09/2021 12:46

We’re in Scotland and haven’t seen any queues at all. I have seen covers over some pumps though, so I guess there is a supply issue at some petrol stations. Luckily for us we don’t need to commute so don’t have any pressure to fill up. I hope things improve soon for those in badly affected areas.

Ishouldbeworkinginstead · 30/09/2021 12:48

cough there was never an issue here in the first place. Local petrol stations set limits to £30 the day it all kicked off.

ThreeLittleDots · 30/09/2021 12:49

Didn't notice any problems yesterday in mid/west Cornwall, seems to be more of an issue in greater London & home counties? Which is ironic, as they have presumably the best public transport networks!

takingmytimeonmyride · 30/09/2021 12:50

I had to go out at 7am to queue for petrol as I hadn't got any since last Monday and not used my car since this Monday as it was too low. There was a 20 minute queue.

My sons school bus was an hour late due to traffic queuing in another town.

So it's definitely not over here, but it is better than it was.

takingmytimeonmyride · 30/09/2021 12:51

Forgot to say, I'm in the south east.

Eve · 30/09/2021 12:52

SE here - no diesel to be had in any of the 5 local stations since the weekend,

I'm down to 40 miles and will use that looking for diesel.

I have voluntary events to support at the weekend - non accessible by public transport.

PhoboPhobia · 30/09/2021 12:52

SE here - there are 5 petrol stations within about 2 miles of my house and 4 have no fuel. The one that does has got a massive queue so I expect they'll run out soon.

CoRhona · 30/09/2021 12:52

SE England - queues at 10pm or garages shut as they've run out; friend went out at 6am yesterday and was in the last three cars to get fuel.

It's appalling.

Mamamia7962 · 30/09/2021 12:53

abbey44 - Ring the hospital and explain, they may offer you hospital transport or run a voluntary service. My area does this.

Crunchymum · 30/09/2021 12:54

Massive issues in London. We don't currently have a car but my dad kindly took DC3 and I to an appointment about 30 minutes drive away. He had just over quarter tank (he drives for a living) but as none of the petrol stations in our local area were open he decided to check a few on the way home. 4 out of 5 were closed and the one with fuel had a 90 minute + wait cars queueing in both directions, petrol station had two "stewards" on the forecourt

Dad had enough fuel for today, if he can't get any more then he can't work.

Starlightstarbright1 · 30/09/2021 12:55

I drove past petrol station on the way home from work- Derbyshire. It had no fuel.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 30/09/2021 12:57

Normal-ish here (Edinburgh) now.

Although, at the two fuel stations I passed (on foot) earlier, both had yellow plastic 'OUT OF USE' covers on some pumps. From what I could see it was the premium fuels V-Power, Ultimate etc that were out, the regular juice seemed OK, largely.

It was a bit punchy here a couple of days ago queues, moderate argy-bargy etc but it's calmed down a lot since then.

Christinatherabbit · 30/09/2021 13:00

It's really bad in Surrey. Neighbours children are off as they haven't the fuel to get them to school (they live 8 miles away and the school is rural) Most of the garages around here are closed as they have nothing at the moment

AngeloMysterioso · 30/09/2021 13:03

DH left for Sainsbury’s at 7am this morning to do the food shop before work and couldn’t even get close because of people queuing for petrol.
