I've been driving around a bit this morning and have passed a few garages that seem to have normal numbers of cars on their forecourts and the queues have gone. AIBU to think that it is over? Or is your area still struggling?

YABU - still problems here
YANBU - all over

(sorry for the poll- like requests, I've been overthinking it and confused myself)

I tell you. London is FUCKED for the Zombie Apocalypse.

Everyone will be dead in a fortnight.

Tops.

NautaOcts · 01/10/2021 07:40

@MistandMud

Those who are down to their final couple of miles in the tank -- can you ring round a few stations and check before you set off?
My DH used his last 10 miles to go to one that had diesel, then they ran out while he was in the queue
Lerram · 01/10/2021 07:54

We had no problem yesterday (Scotland). Filled up at our usual garage, no queues whatsoever.

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 07:57

Do people in cities always have to drive?

Horst · 01/10/2021 07:58

We managed to fill up this morning just as the petrol station opened.

East anglia. Even the main services had none last night but apparently they get refuelled around 4pm a buddy says anyway.

hopefulmama36 · 01/10/2021 08:00

Not around here (East Berks). I queued 20 min yesterday with my car on empty. The petrol station only had 4 of 8 pumps open and only had diesel or petrol on each pump, not both.

Most garages around here 5 within about a 4 mile radius have alternated between opening with restrictions and long queues or being out of supply and shut.

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 08:05

Surely some of the car journeys in cities could be swapped for bikes

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 01/10/2021 08:07

Nearest town (9 miles away) had no petroleum whatsoever in 6 petrol stations. I have 12 miles-worth left in mine so daren’t risk it. It’s no good phoning first because it could be gone by the time I get there.
It’s definitely made us decide to move closer to a town, I can’t face the worry of being totally isolated any more. We’re 2 miles from the nearest shop, very sparse bus service and it’s time to go.

PlonkyWillyWonky · 01/10/2021 08:15

I hate to worry you @YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp but in our town lots of bus services have been cancelled because of lack of drivers and many of the ones that are on are stuck in queues, friend saw ambulances caught up in it too. We may as well be miles away from the nearest shop
It's a total shit show

Shade17 · 01/10/2021 09:23

No issues now in my part of the Midlands, been past 2 local garages this morning, both with one or two cars filling up. Looks completely normal.

Not by me, I can't ride a bike. Grin I wish I could but I fear I've left it a bit late.
ancientgran · 01/10/2021 09:30

@Goldenbear

No luck local to me - I am in sussex! It is not really a surprise that the south east has run out as the population is very much bigger than Cornwall!! It is a misconception from those who don't live here that we have amazing public transport- if you want to go to a neighbouring county for work and be back in time for school collection, it is not possible within that timeframe and the rural bus routes take too long! The train the stops at Sussex uni campus was packed full of students as the buses have been stuck in endless congestion.
According to the local news Cornwall still had a problem yesterday. They were interviewing holidaymakers who couldn't get home. One couple were considering flying home and leaving the car. Not sure whey they couldn't get a train.

Wasn't there a shortage of bikes earlier in the year too?
Etulosba · 01/10/2021 10:24

We have gone away for a short break. I wasn’t going to go unless I had a full tank so that we could get there and back again without needing to find fuel. In the event fuel was no problem and I managed to fill up again at our destination. There was petrol and diesel available and a couple of pumps free. No queue at all.

On the journey we passed several petrol stations, all open and no queues, although a couple only had petrol available.

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 10:30

Ancientgran, it's never too late to learn, and cycling keeps you young!

Macncheeseballs · 01/10/2021 10:31

Medusa - I would say there are more bikes than fuel at the mo

Only til people start panic buying them! 😀

Unfortunately I have osteopenia and have had two fractures in the past couple of years, still recovering from a broken ankle so I don't want to risk it. I'd quite like one of those electric scooters if you could use them legally.

Were you in Cornwall? I haven't ventured into Cornwall so was just saying what was on the local news. Having said that Cornwall is a big county so I suppose there might be petrol in Penzance but not much help if you are in Liskeard. I'm in South Devon and locally it seems fine but obviously doesn't mean the whole county is OK.

Grin Grin

I suspect this is true!

Still no fucking petrol here in Sussex.

middleager · 01/10/2021 13:04

West Midlands here.
Local BP garage still no fuel, but got petrol at local Shell garage, although there were decent queues to get through first.

TheFabledSnake · 01/10/2021 13:08

I'm in south London and live near a garage. Watching queues right now and a Marshall from the garage organising the queues!

1mx1mChocolateBrownie · 01/10/2021 13:11

I think the panic buying is still rife due to the queues. Buyers thinking they need to get it when they can rather than when they need to.

No idea what the answer is!
Another lockdown!?

1mx1mChocolateBrownie · 01/10/2021 13:12

THAT WAS A JOKE BY THE WAY

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 01/10/2021 13:13

Dunstable..Our sainsburys is shut and Tesco has queues going up the road..definitely not over. Unfortunately
