Honestly? I am seriously thinking of getting a pair. I ordered my four year old a pair of roller skates for Xmas, and I used to ice skate when I was younger and loved it. I would like to teach him but I would also like to take him to skate parks etc as something we can do together. What would you honestly think about someone my age roller skating about the place? I’ll be doing it with my kids though

I'd think that I'd want to put mine on and have a skate too. I'm 37 and nobody is going to stop me doing what I enjoy.

Ofallthethings · 29/09/2021 19:31

I'd be envious. I went to a friend's roller disco for her birthday a few years ago and could barely stand up in them, although I could roller skate as a child. Do it.

Belledan1 · 29/09/2021 19:33

Make me smile.

Smartiepants79 · 29/09/2021 19:33

@Macncheeseballs

You can fall over walking or running too, doesn't stop people doing it
True but falling whilst travelling at twice the speed you would normally and from several inches higher is going to cause more damage. It all depends on how proficient you are - if you’ve never done it before be prepared for it to be painful.
Macncheeseballs · 29/09/2021 19:35

Skiing pretty dangerous too, bit lots of people do that

hookiewookie29 · 29/09/2021 19:36

I would think "I wish I could bloody do that!"

Netty909 · 29/09/2021 19:36

I love roller skating and could skate for miles. Plus Roller disco every Sunday.

An elderly (in his 80’s!) gentleman used to hire the Sports hall at my local leisure centre at 8am when it was quiet. He would bring his own music and just skate round. I was very impressed and jealous! Thought it was a brilliant idea as the floor is nice and smooth.

Mamamamasaurus · 29/09/2021 19:36

I'd be well jel and wonder how much of a twat I'd look in a pair

Offmyfence · 29/09/2021 19:38

I'd be fucking pissed off, really angry, totally annoyed.....

I've never mastered roller skating!

Seriously, go for it.

jay55 · 29/09/2021 19:44

This morning I watched a video of a woman who is 50, skateboarding, she started in her 40s. It was awesome.
I'd be delighted to see someone so brave in person.

berryhead2013 · 29/09/2021 19:54

My daughter has just discovered the joy of skating and I'm jealous I loved it when I was wee and want to get /so tempted to get my self a pair too I wouldn't think it was odd at all think of the Beyoncé thought you will get 👍

MorganKitten · 29/09/2021 19:56

I play roller derby so would probably invite them to a game or see if they wanted to play.

I would think you are fab Op! Don’t give a hoot what anyone thinks, enjoy those skates.

TrueRefuge · 29/09/2021 20:12

I would think "I wish I had the stamina, leg strength and balance to do that!" and then "I'm going to be that cool when I'm a little older!"

Clusterfckintolerant · 29/09/2021 20:13

I learned as an adult...at organised professional classes in Central London. It's fantastic exercise and a great skill, in my opinion. Go for it!

72WayTooCool · 29/09/2021 20:22

I'd think you were dead cool. I'd love to skate again. I adored my roller boots as a teen. Roller discos on a Saturday evening were great. We have a brilliant park close by but I fear the paths are too gravelley for skating otherwise I'd definitely have a go again. Go for it!

BoredZelda · 29/09/2021 20:43

I’d wonder how good the pavements are that she can do that, as round my way she’d be on her arse every 5 seconds. And I’d hopefully be saying, I’m glad her and her child have pads and helmets as I am always worried seeing kids without them.

EllaPaella · 29/09/2021 20:54

Here are mine OP - great fun. I love having an hours skate round the park or along the seafront every Saturday afternoon. Stop for a coffee - great form of exercise and very liberating! I posted before but I'm 42 - sometimes I skate with my 10 year old but usually it's just me.

Patapouf · 29/09/2021 20:58

I'd think good for her! I wish I had the coordination and the time to have a hobby like that.

upinaballoon · 29/09/2021 22:29

I would think, "Well done that woman. How lovely to see an adult enjoying herself roller skating."

carlycurly · 29/09/2021 22:38

I used to skate with a colleague after work along the path next to the Thames. It was brilliant and my bum was amazing Grin way too hilly where I now live but I still have my blades which I bought while out in Canada.

Go for it!

ItsNotMeAnymore · 29/09/2021 22:42

I’d be thinking that I hope that you were wearing proper safety gear.

ItsNotMeAnymore · 29/09/2021 22:43

Why are roller blades ok on mumsnet but not scooters?

starsinthegutter · 29/09/2021 22:43

Cool.
