What would you think if you saw a grown woman roller skating in the street?

Honestly? I am seriously thinking of getting a pair. I ordered my four year old a pair of roller skates for Xmas, and I used to ice skate when I was younger and loved it. I would like to teach him but I would also like to take him to skate parks etc as something we can do together. What would you honestly think about someone my age roller skating about the place? I’ll be doing it with my kids though

Last time I saw someone roller-skating, I thought, I should get a pair. Then I remembered I live up a massive hill and would inevitably perish in the attempt.

LadyCatStark · 29/09/2021 16:51

I have seen 2 recently. One was obviously just learning bless her as she was basically just a walking (well skating!) pad and one was the most toned woman I’ve ever seen. I was jealous of both TBH!

Peaplant20 · 29/09/2021 16:53

I would think it was really cool! And be jealous.

Morgantowers · 29/09/2021 16:54

Admire her. It looks an easy way to exercise and burn the calories.

Aquamarine1029 · 29/09/2021 16:56

If I saw you, I would be so envious. I absolutely love to roller skate, but I can't anymore due to my shit ankle. Go for it! It's so much fun and such great exercise.

BasiliskStare · 29/09/2021 16:58

Fabulous

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 29/09/2021 17:00

As long as you're not wearing blue lycra and being pulled along the beach by dogs whilst singing its my life then I would think good for her.

Rainbowheart1 · 29/09/2021 17:02

I wouldn’t think anything really.

Why do you think it’s a out of place thing for an adult to be on roller skates or something? It’s not really, your over thinking it. Get the skates!

sparkysalmon · 29/09/2021 17:02

In the Netherlands, it's really popular with all ages, definitely mid 40's seen skating fast and competently down the cycle paths

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/09/2021 17:02

I would think she is awesome and I would be jealous for not having the confidence to do it myself.

SuziLikeSuziQ · 29/09/2021 17:05

I'm loving these responses!! I was recently given a pair of beautiful rainbow roller boots for my 40th birthday and I've been hesitant to get out on them because I'm a bit embarrassed (it's been some years since I skated). I'm feeling much heartened by what's been said here!

You're FORTY now, you should know better than to give a shit what anyone thinks about you. Get out there!
OakPine · 29/09/2021 17:15

I thought I was too old, until I met my very good skating instructor.
If you are in Central Scotland look up Don Morton at tryskating.com.
He does 1-1 lessons and is very good.
His age limit for skating is "under 5 to over 80" !
He probably wouldn't mind me saying that he is nearer to the upper age limit than the lower.

DukeofEarlGrey · 29/09/2021 17:21

I’d think you were cool, full stop. If you’re actually good at it as well I’d think you were awesome and also be a bit jealous.

The pp with the languishing rainbow skates needs to get on it (them). What a fab 40th gift.

BashfulClam · 29/09/2021 17:22

I’d want to join in

schoolsoutforever · 29/09/2021 17:25

I have skates and skated with my two (I was far more into it than them!). No eyebrows raised at all (that I saw).

crosstalk · 29/09/2021 17:28

Would love to do it if there weren't so many cobbles. Hard hat, make sure you and others are safe and just go for it.

Aorh · 29/09/2021 17:30

“Yay! A skating buddy!”

Hopeisnotastrategy · 29/09/2021 17:31

I'd think "Good for you love, crack on".

(As long as you weren't a multi wheeled hazard).

TheFormidableMrsC · 29/09/2021 17:34

I'm thinking of getting some. I can also skateboard and do the BMX jumps.

I have a 10 year old son who needs a lot of entertaining!

I'm 52 🙃. Go for it!

Whammyyammy · 29/09/2021 17:34

Id think fair bloody play to her

Tomatobear · 29/09/2021 17:48

Legend!

AmItheonlyonehere · 29/09/2021 17:51

I'd wish I had the coordination to have a pair too. But I'm about as graceful as a donkey.

Sweettea1 · 29/09/2021 17:54

@IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves

In the street? With children? To be honest if think it really wasn't a great place to do it and I'd be seeing all the risks and hoping none of them went under a car or slammed into someone on the pavement!

In skate parks or other appropriate areas I'd be envious and wishing I could skate.

You never roller skated when you were younger then? Every kid on my estate wore them daily for hours on end not 1 off us ended up under a car.

I've seen adults using them many times an always thought i want a pair.

HummingBeeBox · 29/09/2021 17:54

I'd think yes! I'm getting some too!
