To be glad it’s cold and wet?

I have been waiting for the whole of September for it to finally feel like autumn! I was getting so fed up of being hot and sweaty- it’s September, I want to be in jumpers and scarves and boots! I feel so cosy when it’s grey and wet outside. Obviously I don’t want it to piss it down all the time, but I don’t mind the odd bit of rain. And I definitely prefer the cold and the dark (great, I’ve made myself sound like some sort of sewer creature).

I love the calmness of autumn & winter. I find summer too intense- not just the heat but the fact that there’s so much going on all the time, it gets too much for me. I work in an industry that changes noticeably with the seasons. There’s less going on in the colder months, less stuff to go wrong, so less stress for me.

I have genuinely noticed how much better a mood I’ve been in the last couple of days since it’s gone cooler.

@vixeyann yep, love all the -bers!

@cardibach

You can love it if you like. But can we stop all this rubbish about crisp days and crunchy leaves? It’ll be grey and miserable and there’s already a massive layer of leaves turned to mush by the rain after one day. They’re just a slip hazard and there’ll be no crunching. Also jumpers are shit and itchy.
And dog poo hiding under soggy autumn leaves. Lovely!Hmm

@Timetable99 I think the ‘‘change’’ between seasons can be the best part. I really notice it, it’s like an energy shift. Whether it’s summer to autumn or winter to spring, it makes me feel nice.

Do SAD lamps actually work? I also hate it as I work shifts and it’s so much nicer to go to work for an early shift in daylight, instead of darkness. It’s been dark for about a couple of weeks when finishing on lates already. Actually dreading autumn and winter. We never get the ‘cosy snuggles’, just endless grey and rain.

FirstTimeMommy2021 · 28/09/2021 21:59

Yessss Autumn is my favourite season!! Red and orange leaves everywhere, I love the sounds of crunching under your feet, I'm not BU by digging the ugh boots out, can get my knitwear ready to be snuggled up in and i love dark mornings and dark nights so I can get the candles on and it just feels so homely and comforting 🤎🧡❤️

grapewine · 28/09/2021 22:01

I'm just happy it'll be easier to sleep when night temperatures aren't in the double digits.

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 22:01

@cardibach I’ll take soggy leaves over soggy armpits any day.

cardibach · 28/09/2021 22:02

And people are still banging on about crunchy leaves. If you’re lucky you sometimes manage that once. Rain turns them to mush. Already has here. Any new ones falling will get mushed not crunched. You’re all deluding yourselves based on some American fantasy of New England (unless you live in New England, in which case, crunch away).

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 22:02

@FirstTimeMommy2021 I feel so bad admitting it but I love dark mornings and evenings! I must’ve been a vampire in another life.

Nope I hate it , we have had lovely evenings at the park kids playing and me meeting other dog owners all that's just gone now . My house is not cosy it's open plan and the heat floats around , I hate getting out of the shower and being cold , and I also hate how much it all makes me moan !

cardibach · 28/09/2021 22:03

Dress appropriately and use a good anti-perspirant then…we aren’t in the tropics.

NotSoNewAndShiny · 28/09/2021 22:04

Sorry my post wasn't aimed at Flev either (Sorry about it). I just happened to quote that particular post by @PartyPotato but it was because of another pp's post.

Now I've written post 4 times.Grin

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 22:04

@cardibach alright alright just having a joke

Also loving the Autumn feel. Autumn, Spring, Winter, Summer. I love the sense of change.
I have reverse SAD and sympathise with everything everyone has said about why the Summer sucks. You can layer up but there's only so much you can take off as my wise Dad used to say! I hate the heat, the humidity, the expectation of summer clothes, the pressure and expense of school holidays (don't have kids yet but do stuff with everyone else's).
Bring on howling winds, Samhain/Halloween, stew and dumplings and cups of tea with a book while the rain pours!

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 22:06

@SapphireEyes88 yes to everything you’ve said!

firstimemamma · 28/09/2021 22:06

I love autumn too op Smile

StrongerThanA90sTrend · 28/09/2021 22:06

I completely agree. Even though I'm now having to cycle everyday to get work, I am still so glad of the colder weather. Got home today, after getting drenched on the way home, and dd got her fluffy socks on, I got in my pjs and it was joyous. Grin

All the best things happen in the autumn and winter. Summer is so overrated. It's too hot, and the long days trick you into letting the kids stay up late.

Looking forward to the leaves changing colour. 🍁

chillidoritto · 28/09/2021 22:09

YABU.
I hate everything about winter. I tolerate autumn but the dark is dreadful.
I've never understood "cozy" people either. I'd rather be in the garden in shorts than wearing bloody boots and jeans. Bring back the spring and summer.
I actually prefer January to November because at least by then we have passed the shortest day and have spring to look forward to!

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 28/09/2021 22:09

YANBU. It's absolutely fantastic! Hope I don't have to see that god awful sun for months now.

ImNotDancing · 28/09/2021 22:10
@cardibach alright alright just having a joke
Ah some people are never happy! I thought your joke was funny and I agree! Some of us just sweat more than others

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 28/09/2021 22:11

Ahhh! We've just had the best part of 2 years locked away in imposed isolation. There can't possibly be too much going on! Through most of September it's been warm enough to sit on the patio with a fire pit going. Hell yeah to that.

Stargazing (when the sky isn't covered in dank cloud), my log burner, nature's colours, the geese migration and the fact that all the pesky wasps have died off are among my few consolations for the horrible, shortening days and perpetual twilight of the miserable, grim, grey, mournful month that is November ...

As far as I'm concerned 'Cosy' can get itself on a one-way train to fek. Roll on January, and bring back spring and summer! 😎😎😎
@cardibach I’ll take soggy leaves over soggy armpits any day.
🤣

Honestly, your posts here have been a bit like reading my thoughts!

ImNotDancing · 28/09/2021 22:11

And we get crunchy leaves here in Devon, I’m sorry so many others don’t

DrCoconut · 28/09/2021 22:11

YABVU. We have had no summer yet and now it's dark early as well as pissing with rain most of the time. It's always a horrible time of year but this year it seems worse somehow because we've had no properly hot weather to recharge in ready for another winter. It's going to be a long mental slog through to spring.
