To be glad it’s cold and wet?

I have been waiting for the whole of September for it to finally feel like autumn! I was getting so fed up of being hot and sweaty- it’s September, I want to be in jumpers and scarves and boots! I feel so cosy when it’s grey and wet outside. Obviously I don’t want it to piss it down all the time, but I don’t mind the odd bit of rain. And I definitely prefer the cold and the dark (great, I’ve made myself sound like some sort of sewer creature).

I love the calmness of autumn & winter. I find summer too intense- not just the heat but the fact that there’s so much going on all the time, it gets too much for me. I work in an industry that changes noticeably with the seasons. There’s less going on in the colder months, less stuff to go wrong, so less stress for me.

I have genuinely noticed how much better a mood I’ve been in the last couple of days since it’s gone cooler.

Love the autumn and winter time I like wearing a coat and being wrapped up cosy . I love going for a walk without sweating and looking at the rich autumn colours and I adore the winter frosts and dark nights Smile

DietCokeChipsAndMayo · 28/09/2021 21:25

Yes! Autumn is my favourite season; woolly jumpers, conker picking, hot chocolates, crunchy leaves, dark nights so the almost teen comes in earlier and I’m not worried about him - that last one was quite niche but I much prefer us all being snuggled up at home!

However!!! I hate hate hate doing the school run in the rain and that 10/15 minutes after they all get home cold and wet and grumpy having to find places to hang wet coats and mopping the mud off the hall floor every day, this makes me miss summer!!

Cottagepieandpeas · 28/09/2021 21:27

I agree with you OP.
I am so glad we’ve moved on from hot, sweaty days!
I love autumn and winter. I am soaked to the skin at this very moment as I got caught in an enormous downpour and have an hour long journey to get home.
But I don’t care! Much rather that than sweltering and uncomfortable.

Hallowbat · 28/09/2021 21:27

Absolutely agree it’s the best time of year love it!!

Cottagepieandpeas · 28/09/2021 21:28

@Phonelightmidnight

It’s all nice until you have to commute in the cold rain, soaking wet. But being inside with a cosy blanket whilst you watch the rain is great.
I am doing that right now and enjoying it 😆 I’d be soaked with sweat in hot weather so I’d prefer soaked with rain water!
PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:29

@DietCokeChipsAndMayo my son is only young so no experience of school runs yet but I remember as a kid, if we got caught in the rain coming back from school we’d have to take our uniforms off, underwear n all if we were soaked through, and put our pjs on and sit by the fire to dry, and it was the loveliest feeling. My mom probably didn’t feel the same way!

I was delighted to dry my hair without being soaked in sweat this morning.

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:30

@Cottagepieandpeas same here, I would rather get rained on than get hot & sweaty!

NotSoNewAndShiny · 28/09/2021 21:30

Yes. Me too. Me too. Love the rain as well but not the long, dark days.

Spring. Autumn. Winter.
In that order.

No summer for me, thanks.

And I definitely prefer the cold and the dark (great, I’ve made myself sound like some sort of sewer creature).

🤣

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:31

@Looubylou nothing worse than blow drying & straightening your hair in the summer 😫😫 and then it being a frizzy mess again five minutes later

Yabu. I'm fucking depressed, cold, my gutters are leaking.

I can expect months of sinking into ever deeper depression, suicidal misery and despair, in cold and darkness.

But hey, as long as you can wank on about cosy jumpers.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 28/09/2021 21:32

Absolutely the best time of the year. So happy right now!

catwithflowers · 28/09/2021 21:32

I lit the wood burner this evening and a couple of tea lights and thought how lovely and cosy it all was. Then remembered we are going camping next week 😬😂. So am definitely hoping the lovely weather we have had recently will make one last farewell before the autumn really kicks in!!

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:32

@BoreiPuriHagafen I don’t really know what to say to that, I’m very sorry you feel that way, it was meant to be a lighthearted post.

MrsBungle · 28/09/2021 21:33

I’m totally with you. I’m not a summer person. Hate the heat. I’m all cosy now listening to the rain!

Glitterblue · 28/09/2021 21:34

I am so with you on this! I've been complaining about the "18 degrees at midnight" weather - I hate that in the summer, let alone late September!

I'm so happy that tonight feels like a snuggly, hot water bottle night. My feet are freezing and I can't wait to snuggle up in bed!

Flup · 28/09/2021 21:35

I'm so looking forward to a cold bedroom.
On the other hand my summer break that was postponed due to covid is this weekend. I would've preferred warm and dry for that.

SunscreenCentral · 28/09/2021 21:35

I like this part, the change in the season. It seemed particularly discernible this year.
But

January and February, ohh no.

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:36

@SunscreenCentral yeah Jan and Feb are a bit shit. Even my frosty heart is looking forward to spring by the time we get to March.

Beachbabe1 · 28/09/2021 21:37

100% agree with everything you said! I've been wishing for Autumn for the whole of September! Who even likes to be hot and sweaty anyway! Cosy, jumpers & boots, beautiful colourful leaves and cold fresh air!

NotSoNewAndShiny · 28/09/2021 21:38
@Flev oh I’m sorry, that’s why I wondered if it was unreasonable to be happy about the ‘‘miserable weather’’, as I know it can really affect people.
Don't think it's unreasonable to be happy about something others aren't.

Summer affects me terribly, makes me constantly fatigued and miserable, I'm so easily drained of energy, grumpy and over-stimulated if I'm out in the sun and around all those summery activities.

Still, I don't begrudge people going on about the "lovely summer weather" and "glorious sunny days". I just avoid the threads or conversations if I'm feeling particularly irritated. Other times, I understand we all have different views.

DietCokeChipsAndMayo · 28/09/2021 21:39

Ahh sitting by the fire in your pjs to dry sounds lovely, I’m sure your Mum didn’t think so 😂 but a lovely memory to have
I’ve actually been putting onesies on the radiator before I leave for school then the kids swap them for their wet outer layers when they get in - I hope they remember that with the same fondness you do @PartyPotato ☺️

AlwaysLatte · 28/09/2021 21:40

We've got the log burner blazing away right now. I prefer the summer, but this is a nice consolation for the cold and wet 😊

PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:42

@NotSoNewAndShiny no I know I just wanted to acknowledge that I did sympathise with people who do get affected by SAD. But I am like you, the hot weather does start to really bring me down if it’s been going on a while. It’s not just the heat, I don’t feel relaxed in summer. I feel like I ‘‘should’’ be doing something all the time. And work gets really busy. And I hate summer dressing!
But totally agree I would never get mad at someone else for loving summer and being happy that it’s not!

OP posts:
PartyPotato · 28/09/2021 21:43

@DietCokeChipsAndMayo ah that’s so nice 😊
