There's a few tees I like, not so keen on the girl slogan ones as I'm a women, but I like this one and the WOMAN one .. but would I be a bit of a contradiction? As it goes I'm not married, but I'm technically engaged 😬

@Veryverycalmnow

Saying, 'On Wednesdays we...' isn't exclusive to mean girls. I'm not a fan of slogans on t shirts, but if it's for a good cause I think why not?
Me neither, I had a winging it one when I had DC1, but I definitely need an outlet for expressing my feminist rage, just don't want to look like a hypocrite 😳

I have no recollection of people saying ‘on Wednesday we…’ prior to mean girls. Surely that is where it came from!

Theoldprospector · 22/09/2021 19:17

Why on earth would you be a hypocrite?

WorraLiberty · 22/09/2021 19:18

I don't get the Wednesday thing either, despite the explanations.

But if you like it then wear it.

With regards to being a SAHM, you're really overthinking it. Can you think of anyone who would really care what slogan is on your t.shirt?

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/09/2021 19:18

We all live in the patriarchy. So unless you're a feminist living in an all-female, lesbian anarchosyndicalist commune off grid, we're all colluding in some way.

Wear it with pride!

RickOShay · 22/09/2021 19:29

Yes you can wear it, whether you are a sahm or running the world, and both are equally valid choices btw, you have been affected by the patriarchy as we ALL have.
Wear it Smile

The description references the Mean Girls quote though.

So in this case it's pretty certainly a Mean Girls rip off.

Why do you need to be married to smash the patriarchy, OP?

EatYourVegetables · 22/09/2021 19:46

Wear it.

I’d wear it. Go girl and all that. Don’t listen to the nay sayers, they probably have wardrobes full of frumpy flowery stuff and are terrified of wearing Tshirts.

Incidentally it is Wednesday so high fives to everyone who contributed to patriarchy smashing today Grin Are we smashing capitalism, organised religion, or oil companies tomorrow?

Coffeeisnecessary · 22/09/2021 19:51

I've got a great feminist t shirt from this company blackandbeech.com/products/liberte-egalite-sororite-t-shirt?variant=12977806671949

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 22/09/2021 19:52

I don't blame you for asking OP.
I once read a thread here where a large number of people agreed that being a sahm was supporting the patriarchy as they furthered their husbands' careers at the expense of their own, PLUS weren't contributing to society (I know) AND because they were less likely to need cleaners and childcare were denying the work of low paid working class female workers...

It really upset me actually and I didn't visit here again for a bit.

Coffeeisnecessary · 22/09/2021 19:54

There is a nice one that says 'a mother's place is in the resistance' on the black and beech website but I found the quality of the cotton was really good on the liberte, egalite, sororite one!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 22/09/2021 19:54

Anyway wear it if you want, it's not my cup of tea as it does imply you only smash the patriarchy on Wednesdays!

For my strident feminist days I wear my I love JK Rowling or Woman AHF tshirts.

CorrBlimeyGG · 22/09/2021 19:58

Spark Company is a feminist company, run by women and contributing to period poverty products. True feminists, they don't support transphobes like JK Rowling.

(If you conflate transpeople with sex offenders, that's nothing to do with women's rights, and everything to do with transphobia.)

Rannva · 22/09/2021 20:02

@Waspsarearseholes

You need to have the confidence to wear t shirts like this if it's something you want to do. I don't get the 'on Wednesdays' thing, either, isn't it suggesting you're a part time patriarchy-smasher?
It's a joke from Mean Girls.

If you think you being 'technically engaged' means you can or cannot wear the t-shirt, or something, I'd say you don't entirely understand the slogan.

Wear what you want. You're certainly far too old to be worrying about what people think.

Confusedandshaken · 22/09/2021 20:05

It's a humorous T-shirt not a manifesto. I wear a tshirt with a feminist quote from the musical Six on it. It doesn't mean I used to be married to Henry VIIII. Go for it.

Not does it mean I want people to stare at my tits! On the contrary, it's a very oversized tshirt I wear to dance classes in an attempt to camoflage my tits.

WorriedWishingWell · 22/09/2021 20:08

Take a look at the Man Who Has It All website too - their t shirts might interest you.

PlanDeRaccordement · 22/09/2021 20:15

Yeah I still think the T-shirt’s message is ambiguous at best. I understand now it’s a joke from Mean Girls, but why use a joke from one of the most sexist, nonfeminist, cliched US high school films? I mean the main character fails math so she can get with a boy. Then her friend finds out she likes this boy, so engineers to snog with him in front of her. And it gets worse from there.

I now feel like the T-shirt slogan is definitely a piece of trolling making fun of feminists by likening us to the Mean Girls.

Saladovercrispsanyday · 22/09/2021 20:18

FFS

* I be a bit of a contradiction? As it goes I'm not married, but I'm technically engaged *

Is this seriously how childish your view is? Whether you are a hypocrite for being a feminist and…. What? Being a feminist?

And that somehow the idea that not being married is somehow superior in feminist terms that being married?

Good grief. This is embarrassing

Saladovercrispsanyday · 22/09/2021 20:19

Bring a feminist and, what? A sahm I meant to say

The very fact YOU think that you may be a hypocrite for these reasons is just feeding in to the patriarchy

Can you honestly not see that

If YOU have to ask the question
Then you need to do some serious work on YOUR stance.

MyPatronusIsACat · 22/09/2021 20:22

@baggingareaunattended It's a free country, wear what you want.

That slogan is spectacularly naff though.

Wow, just when I thought I had read everything on here. What a load of utter shit.
fiveinfulham · 22/09/2021 21:08

No you most certainly can not wear that as a SAHM OP. What do you do all day fgs? You should be knocking up your own clothes from old curtains. Not spending HIS money on T-shirts! Shock I find your thread an outrage. Get the slow-cooker on.

Mrsfrumble · 22/09/2021 21:15

@DontBuyANewMumCashmere was that the thread where someone compared SAHMs to prostitutes? That was a corker!

I love the Libertie Egalitie Sororitie T-shirt. Watch my “don’t buy any new clothes for the rest of year” resolution fly out of the window!
