To think high heels look a bit silly?

I'm a sucker for them (or used to be) but the more time goes by I'm starting to feel they have very little place in my wardrobe.

I feel overdressed and try to hard in them. I think it's hard to pull off the effortless look in heels. But I also feel like something is missing when I don't wear them on a night out for example.

I feel like it's yet another pointless trend for women to continue following - that are really uncomfortable and serve no real purpose.

I've also noticed younger women rarely wear them - have they seen the light?!

Or AIBU for feeling this way

Effortless chic is in..

There nothing chic about trainers, doc Martins and ballet pumps. Maybe practical but definitely not chic.

They can be. Some people can make anything look chic - I wish I was one of them. 😢

I love heels ,I wear them daily to do my day to day tasks. I think they look great and I'm only petite so give me a bit more height

Its rare you find me in a pair of flats.

OhWhyNot · 22/09/2021 19:06

I love high heels

But not the really high ones from a few years ago. I rarely wear them now and wear lower heels

They will come back in fashion they were not at all fashionable when I was around 20

@Rubyflint

What do people think about wedges? Will they make a comeback?
Bloomin love a wedge heel. Still have some peep toe ones somewhere.

I love wedge sandals

And high mules (I don’t wear these anymore)

I wore a slight wedge on holiday this year, worked well as I could walk fine for hours but felt slightly more dressed up than trainers/flip flops.

I like a bloc heeled ankle boot on a night out.

What I struggle with is the trend for baggier jeans. To dress those up then a strappy heel looked good. I don’t feel dressed up in baggy jeans and flats/trainers! So I struggle with evening wear at the moment.

Have some lovely flares. But they do need a slight heel otherwise they drag.

Don’t love dresses.

There was a woman walking around in Smyths toy store wearing sky high stilettos earlier this week. Unremarkable rest of outfit. Dress and coat and nude tights. Maybe late 50s, walking in them ok, but it was still that 'high heel' tiptoe'ing along, next to her DH (?) in his comfy shoes ...

Obvs i've noticed the trend towards trainers and flats (you'd have to be living under a rock not to have) but right the it really dawned on me how daft and weird it is to wear tall spiky things under your feet! I mean i did it for years as a late teen and twenty something but I hadn't realised until this week just how unusual high heels are now. and how bloody silly they are

I love the look of some heels but have never gone for very high ones
With small narrow feet I prefer pointed flats or low heels for every day
I don’t get the love for trainers they just make me feel frumpy
Love very hot weather when I can wear comfy sandals or flip flops
From November to March I embrace my boot collection - some of which are lowish heels

I'm early 50's. I adored heels in my teens, 20's and 30's, but I have a bunion as a result. Now, I tend to wear wedges with longer trousers. Otherwise I in trainers, kickers etc. I no longer own stilettos. I think I would wobble! I do have some much wider heels with slight platform, if I need to dress up more.
