Went into M&S for a coffee today..... my day off with no children, 2 in school, 1 in nursery.....!
In the queue ( always a queue) about 5 people in front and about 10 behind. Looked round and saw that most of those behind had an other with them , ie hubby, frien etc, then about 6 of " the others" all went and found tables.
So there we are with at leasy 6 people sitting at tables (waiting for the other halves- who are way back in the queue behind me)
The people at the front couldn't find a seat
it really drives me mad.... why can't people just wait until they have at least ordered their food or drink. i only had a coffee, iif i'd been able to find a seat I'd have been gone before some of these had even ordered.
Sorry long rant, but really p..... me ... off!!
Sorry, sorry...... just wanted to stand up in the middle of the shop and shout at all the numpties!

nappyadict, it's practice that's all.

I hate prams by the pool, all that dirt on the wheels, then I have to walk in it in my bare feet, it's really not nice. No one needs a pram by the pool fhs!

nappyaddict · 07/12/2007 21:18

yes but if that's the pool rule what else are you meant to do?

KITTYmaspudding · 08/12/2007 09:39

What about a car seat? Don't you drive?

nappyaddict · 08/12/2007 22:12

no, not everyone does you know. even if i did drive i'm not sure how i would be able to carry a stage 1 car seat plus my baby all at the same time.

KITTYmaspudding · 09/12/2007 09:21

nappy, it is quite possible to carry a baby, a car seat, various accompanying crap and hold on to other children at the same time, it just takes practice!!

jinglebells2shoessmells · 09/12/2007 09:47

give the girl a break she is young with a baby. maybe she needs some advice on how to do it.
(would advise but as ds is 15 mine would be very out of date)

needmorecoffee · 09/12/2007 09:49

I'm sorry Nappy, but if a disabled person like me could do it with 3 small children I am struggling to understand why you are finding it so hard.
Use the family room if no-one else needs it but it is pretty easy to change one adult and one small child without needing your pushchair with you or the baby coming to any harm. Millions of women manage. The point being made was if a mum with 2 or more children is there, she should get first dibs on the family room. If you're finding it hard with one child, imagine how she is feeling. Its about having consideration for others.
To be honest, I never enjoyed the swimming thing but felt I had to. I hated getting all sweaty, those places are like saunas. I struggled with 3 boisterous kids in the pool (we had to stop going when they introduced the only 2 children under 8 per adult rule). Once they all reached 8 I never went in a pool again and we haven't been swimming for 4 years now. The teenagers don't want too and dd(3) is too disabled - the local pool has stairs down to the changing rooms/pool and a permantly broken lift. But then its not important dd learn to swim cos she never will.
Book them into lessons at 5 (the after-school lesson, another ordeal the baby books don't mention) and sit at the side of the pool drining tea . Much easier

twocutedarlings · 09/12/2007 10:37

Nappy Addict

I never found the getting undressed a problem, but the getting dressed i also found it really hard work. We never went swimming often because of this.

Could you give your LO something to eat or drink while you get yourself ready (chocolate maybe ). My DD would sit and play with my keys while i got myself ready.HTH

KITTYmaspudding · 09/12/2007 11:00

2shoes, it's not something I can do over the internet.
Nappy, you could watch other mothers who juggle alot of children and bags and see how they do it. I can dress myself completely whilst holding a baby if I have to.
Be inventive, that's part of surviving motherhood!

nappyaddict · 09/12/2007 11:36

well our car seat is really heavy. if i were to carry ds and car seat at same time i would be carrying 54lbs. if it were a child weighing that much i could do it but not a car seat in one hand and a child in the other.

it's not like it matters anyway cos i can't drive so have to take the pushchair. and the swimming pool rules state pushchairs are not allowed in the main changing rooms so i have to use the family room. i don't know what people expect me to do when the pool rules state this.

jinglebells2shoessmells · 09/12/2007 11:38

use the family room. I would. I also used to always go with a freind. that way there would be 4 of us so then we were the right number for a family lol

nappyaddict · 09/12/2007 11:40

half the time i do go with my friend. or sometimes i just take my friends dd with ds but that's harder cos she's used to being in a buggy and get's tired really quickly. sometimes i take the sling to put one of them in but neither are keen on it anymore.

nappyaddict · 09/12/2007 11:42

can i also point out it takes 5 mins to get me and ds changed, ten if i've got friend's dd. it's not a huge amount of time for the next person needing the room to wait. ok ten minutes might be, but 5 mins is not exactly a long time.

jinglebells2shoessmells · 09/12/2007 11:42

then there are 3 of you so you can use the family room

IsawKIMIkissingSantaClaus · 09/12/2007 11:46

So littleboo I take it that whilst standing in a queue you found yourself making sounds and movements that you had no control over.
Maybe it resulted in you dropping your lunch! I would think that you had some stupid people look at you and comment, I guess you were a little embarrassed and upset by your inability to control your movements? No none of that! Oh I see you don't have tourettes at all you were just pissed off that you did not get to sit your fat arse on a seat quick enough.

You may have guessed I am the mother of a tourettes child and people like you piss me off.

IsawKIMIkissingSantaClaus · 09/12/2007 12:11

Oh and my child does not swear!

KITTYmaspudding · 09/12/2007 13:09

nappyaddict, can't you fold your pram up and carry your ds? Better than taking up a family room.
I'm sorry to say but it drives half insane when I see a person with one child in a family changing room.
Some people actually NEED it

TotalChaos · 09/12/2007 13:11

I'm starting to feel sorry for NappyAddict here. So what is a family? 2 or more children under a certain age??

KITTYmaspudding · 09/12/2007 13:20

Yes I think AT LEAST 2 children and 2 adults. You can fit one adult and 2 children in a cubicle ( a bit of a squash, but easyly do-able), you don't need a family room.
I'm not intending at all to be unsupportive here. My advice as earlier is look and see what more experienced mothers do. The best way to learn is to watch others, pick up tips and ideas.

TotalChaos · 09/12/2007 13:23

this is starting to get silly, but why can't the adults take turns? I don't see why having more adults - so more pairs of hands, means you should be more entitled to a bigger room.

inthegutter · 09/12/2007 13:26

I see this thread has moved onto swimming pools etc, but to go back to the OP about the M&S cafe.... this used to really piss moe off too, but I discovered a really simple solution, When you are buying a snack/meal/drink in a cafe, you are paying not just for the food but for the facility of eating and drinking there. So just wait until you've paid for your food, do a quick circuit round the cafe where all the tables are being hogged by people who won't be eating for another ten minutes or so, return to the counter and very loudly and reasonably say , 'Excuse me, but you have sold me a meal/coffee to consume on your premises and you don't appear to have space for me. If you've sold me something which you can't provide, I'll have a refund please.'
In other words, turn the problem back to the shop rather than the table-hoggers, and you'll get a swift response. The first time I did this, the manager shifted scores of people from their seats! It works! The bottom line is, you've paid for your meal, you have a right to be able to sit and eat it.

nappyaddict · 09/12/2007 23:18

no it is too heavy to do that and it folds in 2 parts.

even if i could fold it up i'm not sure how that would help?? i couldn't fit me and ds and a pushchair even if it was folded in one of the normal cubicles. maybe we have unusually small cubicles?

littleboo · 10/12/2007 14:09

In the gutter thanks for that, might just give it ago
AND FOR Isawkim....
FFS, if you'd bothered to read the thread properly, you would have already seen that we have been there done that, shot me down, and people getting very worked up over a title. You would have also seen that I have apologised, am not going to start again now. YOU WILL ALSO SEE that I did suggest that this thread was left to dissappear seeing as the title was "inappropriate". BUT STILL IT GOES ON.
AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION.... i do not have a fat arse, or in fact fat anything, am a lovely svelte size 8.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 10/12/2007 14:11

to be awkward - all arses have some fat on them

littleboo · 10/12/2007 14:12

nappy addict, well just a touch, but nicely toned fat at that
