Under 75

Doggiedementia · 19/09/2021 16:52

Why?

ParkheadParadise · 19/09/2021 16:54

Under 60

Pikamoo · 19/09/2021 16:54

I'd say you're short changed if you die under 75. I would expect most people to be in alright health until they're 70 and then from there start to decline a bit.

Youcanbesweet · 19/09/2021 16:55

Just a conversation I was just having with my dad

I think it's a sliding scale rather than a specific cut-off. The younger the person, the sadder it is generally.

gobbynorthernbird · 19/09/2021 16:56

I think that it depends on the person. One of my GP should have died many years sooner (dementia sufferer), but there are people in their 80s who I consider too young to die.

Doggiedementia · 19/09/2021 16:57

24 weeks in utero. 24 hours old. 7. 23. 42. 59. 72.

DOINGOURBIT · 19/09/2021 16:57

Under pensionable age - without getting a chance to enjoy retirement with family.

Obviously the younger, the more sad it is. Lost family members at 24, 37 and 51, but also 91 and 99.

Looubylou · 19/09/2021 16:58

Under 80. Though most family members have not made it to 80. I think the older you are, the higher the answer.

Bathshebahardy · 19/09/2021 16:58

For young women average life expectancy is around 80, which gradually goes up to around 85 from age 40 to 60. Men live around 3 years less.
Hence, late 70s could be considered early nowadays.

Chasingsquirrels · 19/09/2021 16:59

DH # 58 was.
My parents are 75 & in reasonably good heath, I will be VERU VERY upset when they die, but I wouldn't consider them "too young to die", probably from 70.

Comedycook · 19/09/2021 16:59

Under 60.

Pumpkinstace · 19/09/2021 17:00

69

girlmom21 · 19/09/2021 17:00

I don't think I can answer this when I have elderly relatives. I thought 80 was a fair age when I opened the thread then I thought about it and realised I have a wonderful grandmother long past 80 who's still full of life and a number of other relatives fast approaching that age who are definitely not 'old' yet.

georgarina · 19/09/2021 17:01

Under 70

MintyGreenDream · 19/09/2021 17:01

Under 80 nowadays

jugglingduty · 19/09/2021 17:03

In terms of total strangers, it's people who were in their 20s and below that I find the saddest somehow when I walk around graveyards.

Or just any age when it's clear there were several family members who died in the same few years.

For people I love obviously any age is too soon.

lockdownmadnessdotcom · 19/09/2021 17:04

I think around 80. My mum is 82 and I'd be very upset if she died tomorrow, but I wouldn't feel that she was short-changed (although her sister died at 86 so I might wonder why my mum got less time). And in a way it's better for someone to die while they're still reasonably fit. Unlike MIL who is 93 and bedridden with dementia. It would have been better for her if she'd died when she was about 88, before the dementia really set in.

Ginger1982 · 19/09/2021 17:05

I don't think anything above 70 is 'too young to die.' Yes, it's sad these people didn't live longer but 70 is a good life innings. My dad was 43, my friend's little boy was 6 months. Both far too young

6 months is absolutely devastating
Willyoujustbequiet · 19/09/2021 17:16

Anything under about 65.

My df was 61 and I felt very resentful of him dying young until my db died in his twenties and I learnt the real meaning of tragic.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 19/09/2021 17:18

Take my current age and add 10.
