To not shower everyday?

Zwills · 19/09/2021 15:46

Especially if you don't work full time or leave the house everyday. Sometimes I prefer to shower in the evenings so I feel fresh before going to bed, other days if I'm going out I will have a shower in the morning or If I wake up earlier before the kids i have one then. I don't always wash my hair I don't always shower everyday if I am just at home and exhausted. Just wondering how honest everyone will be or do people literally shower everyday/twice a day without fail even if they don't leave their home. Obviously excluding when the weather the hot.

I don't shower everyday. I work from home and don't see anyone on the school run anymore as dd just jumps out of the car. Every other day for me mostly unless I've worked in the garden or done a load of sweaty housework.

AuntMargo · 19/09/2021 17:08

I shower and wash my hair daily, unless I've been poorly and not well enough to, but it makes me feel horrid.

Poppins2016 · 19/09/2021 17:09

I shower every other day. I have rather dry skin, plus my hair doesn't react well to daily washing (gets very oily and ends up needing to be washed more frequently).

My son is also bathed every other day (unless he's ended up getting very mucky in between/needed sun cream that day/etc).

Creamsoda77 · 19/09/2021 17:10

Yuk people dont shower every day?? We always do, sometimes morning and evening, I would feel really unclean if I didn't shower daily

Shallwegoforawalk · 19/09/2021 17:11

@girlmom21

Genuine question for people who shower every day but don't wash their hair every day - how? Do you use a shower cap?
Tie my hair up and lower the shower to shoulder height.
NuffSaidSam · 19/09/2021 17:12

'I would feel really unclean if I didn't shower daily'

Maybe that's something to think through? Objectively you probably wouldn't be really unclean (depending on your job/lifestyle) so why do you think you'd feel that way?

Shallwegoforawalk · 19/09/2021 17:16

@loopylindi

.....and so the 'epidemic' of people with dry skin and excema continues... If you work in a dirty environment or do physically exerting work and sweat a lot then yes, but otherwise......really. Skin produces an oily substance designed to protect it and to help prevent wrinkles and the like. So what do you do after a shower - moisturise. I rest my case
I've had naturally dry skin all my life but now I have the knowledge and money to buy good quality products that are ph balanced to skin and do not strip off oils in a harsh way. So many cheap products d more harm than good. So I can shower every day and my skin is still soft and feels good. No need to moisturise afterwards if I'm short of time either but I have lovely body cream that is a pleasure to use and smell if I want to.

Don’t have a set amount of times to shower a week. However do for my hair and shock horror - it gets done once a week.

I used to wash my hair every 3 days but when it caused my hair to break easily because of straightening it after washing (which I have to do) I stopped. Since switching to once a week my hair is thicker and grows so much quicker (to the point that it can get hard to manage). It’s the best condition it has ever been in.

Burntfingerz · 19/09/2021 17:16

Each to their own.

I have to shower at least once a day.

I couldn't bare the thought of not washing for hygiene purposes , for the intimacy aspect with my husband and also for
my own mental well-being. I suffer with very poor mental health and a shower and always helps me , even momentarily.

shouldistop · 19/09/2021 17:17

I shower every day, I don't think I'm a clean freak. It doesn't take long. Wash hair every other day.

Burntfingerz · 19/09/2021 17:18

Sorry bear not bare... shit grammar. 🙄

EvenRosesHaveThorns · 19/09/2021 17:19

I don't shower every day or every other day

SlidDownTheElephantsTrunk · 19/09/2021 17:20

Shower every day. It takes under three minutes unless I am washing my hair, which is only once a week max.

I couldn't have sex with someone unless they had a shower in the evening.

LukeEvansWife · 19/09/2021 17:21

MN seems to be an odd combination of ‘washing pyjamas and towels and bedding every ten minutes’ and ‘not having a shower for weeks’

(Okay it’s an exaggeration)

but I had the misfortune of sitting opposite someone at work who didn’t understand why people would shower and wash their hair every day and she STANK!

I shower at least once a day (usually twice) and I wash my hair once a day.

Maireas · 19/09/2021 17:21

@Shallwegoforawalk - can I ask what products you use that work well for you?

shouldistop · 19/09/2021 17:22

@girlmom21 I tie my hair up and just don't put my head under the water. I switch the shower so it's not coming out of the big over head shower, only out of the smaller head that I lower and angle so it's only hitting my body.

LukeEvansWife · 19/09/2021 17:22

I did have one day when we had no water so couldn’t shower and I felt really manly

icedcoffees · 19/09/2021 17:22

It's personal choice.

I shower daily because I have an active job and I always come home sweaty and smelly (and normally covered in dog hair, mud and slobber). However, if you WFH at a computer all day, then you can skip days.

LukeEvansWife · 19/09/2021 17:23

*MANKY not manly

Shallwegoforawalk · 19/09/2021 17:25

I shower every morning because for me, it helps me wake up, I feel fresh and ready to face the day, I know I smell nice, and it would feel so odd to put clean pants/socks on to an unwashed vulva/bum/feet.

It's also so much faster and less faff than a sink wash! On the rare occasions I've had to sink wash, it's a pain, I get all twisty and how on earth do you rinse your bits properly without getting water everywhere, on the floor etc? So much easier to jump in a shower cubicle that has a drain and all the products I need there already!

takemetomars · 19/09/2021 17:25

I grew up at a time when we didn't have showers and baths were twice a week. BUT we washed every single day, pits and bits. It's just basic hygiene. Even we knew that

Shallwegoforawalk · 19/09/2021 17:26

Oh but I don't wash hair every day, it's too long and thick, it gets washed every third day. So my morning showers just take a few minutes.

Tumbleweed101 · 19/09/2021 17:27

Shower/bath if going out but not always for a day at home as think it does hair and skin good to left occasionally. Do feel a bit icky though if I don't but I think that's more how I feel than how I am, iygwim.

Vbree · 19/09/2021 17:29

I shower twice a day. A quick shower/body wash in the morning and a shower and hair wash in the evening. I definitely think this is more than most people but I feel a bit smelly otherwise. I think I sweat quite a lot and my hair gets greasy easily. I think it's strange not showering everyday but many of my friends don't and they have never smelled or looked dirty.

Wopies · 19/09/2021 17:31

Every morning even if I wasn't seeing anyone and lived alone I would have to shower. I usually wash my hair every day as well.
