To not shower everyday?

Zwills · 19/09/2021 15:46

Especially if you don't work full time or leave the house everyday. Sometimes I prefer to shower in the evenings so I feel fresh before going to bed, other days if I'm going out I will have a shower in the morning or If I wake up earlier before the kids i have one then. I don't always wash my hair I don't always shower everyday if I am just at home and exhausted. Just wondering how honest everyone will be or do people literally shower everyday/twice a day without fail even if they don't leave their home. Obviously excluding when the weather the hot.

@Maireas currently using the pebbles from Tropic which I love but have used various hand made natural soaps and body washes with great success. No thrush any more either!

I live in rural north Scotland and you can't throw a stick here without hitting someone who makes their own soaps/wax melts/honey/gin etc Grin

LukeEvansWife · 19/09/2021 17:34

Oh and I use cheap products daily.

Even when I was skint and living on my own I showered and washed my hair daily, even used washing up liquid if I couldn’t get to a shop that sold own brand shampoo

LookAtMoiPloise · 19/09/2021 17:35

No matter what you think, you will smell

Total bullshit

IceLace100 · 19/09/2021 17:35

I shower every day because I exercise every day and get sweaty and pongy.

If I didn't exercise every day I don't think I would shower every day, esp not in winter / if I was wfh.

VickyEadieofThigh · 19/09/2021 17:36

@DramaAlpaca

I always shower and wash my hair every morning, I feel manky if I don't.
Me too. I always shower before bed too.

But that's me and my preferences - if a person showers relatively regularly and is certain they don't smell, it's up to them.

Maireas · 19/09/2021 17:36

Thank you, @Shallwegoforawalk It's interesting you say that, because I've started to buy locally made, homemade soap and it's gorgeous. There's one with honey and it's lovely. I started because I wanted to give money to local producers not massive global conglomerates, but it's turned out well!

TarpaulinEyes · 19/09/2021 17:37

I shower once in a blue moon but have a bath in the evening. If I am clean when I get into bed my reasoning is the bedding doesn't get so dirty and doesn't need changing constantly.

BetsyBigNose · 19/09/2021 17:40

The only time I shower daily is when I'm in hospital. At home I have a quick shower in the morning or a (much, much) longer bath in the evening, every other day. I only wash my hair twice a week, it just doesn't need it any more frequently; it doesn't get greasy and I'm not well enough to exercise so I rarely get even a little bit sweaty.

I spend a fair amount of time in hospital - usually around 3 weeks out of every 12 week period - and I think that it's a matter of being respectful to the Doctors and Nurses who need to examine various bits of your body, to ensure that you are clean and don't smell unpleasant. It's also important to me to shower and put on fresh PJs each morning as you're lounging around in the same PJs for 24 hours, eating in/on your bed and in the same room as around 5 other ladies - it usually smells a bit ripe anyway (you often have some ladies who have to use bedpans or commodes as they can't walk to the toilet). I would hate to be known as a 'smelly patient'!

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 19/09/2021 17:40

I shower twice a day but sometimes not till lunch when I'm wfh. I can't cope with not showering though and I like to feel clean when I get into bed.

flumposie · 19/09/2021 17:40

Shower every day when I'm at work as my hair is fine/ greasy otherwise. Sometimes don't bother on day off and one day at the weekend.

Midnightstar76 · 19/09/2021 17:41

Every mornings as it wakes me up. I am like a zombie otherwise. Also have curly hair that I need to wet then leave to dry otherwise I am a frizzbomb and not fit for public viewing

skodadoda · 19/09/2021 17:46

@NuffSaidSam

YANBU

But be warned Mumsnet is home to a large number of clean freaks who will tell you're absolutely disgusting and they shower 47 times a day, only stopping to change their bed sheets and wash their towels umpteen times a day.

🤣🤣🤣🤣. I have a bath every other day 😆 (puts on tin helmet)
MasterBeth · 19/09/2021 17:47

I’m not a clean freak (use towels multiple times, Hoover once a week absolute max) but I shower every morning. It wakes me up and cleans me after the night sweats. Takes five minutes.

MasterBeth · 19/09/2021 17:51

@Shallwegoforawalk

I shower every morning because for me, it helps me wake up, I feel fresh and ready to face the day, I know I smell nice, and it would feel so odd to put clean pants/socks on to an unwashed vulva/bum/feet.

It's also so much faster and less faff than a sink wash! On the rare occasions I've had to sink wash, it's a pain, I get all twisty and how on earth do you rinse your bits properly without getting water everywhere, on the floor etc? So much easier to jump in a shower cubicle that has a drain and all the products I need there already!

Yes, a strip wash is messy, bleak and a bit Spartan. A shower is a pleasant sensory experience.
roolz · 19/09/2021 17:59

Yup, sink washes are silly IMO. Maybe they were useful 50 years ago. Now there's really no need. Easier and more pleasant to just hop in the shower

Leftbutcameback · 19/09/2021 18:01

Every other day for me too unless it's hot / I'm exercising. My hair gets washed then too. For me often the bits that smell most if I don't shower are my feet! Have to give them a good wash with a flannel and soap. If I shower in the evening after exercise I won't shower the next day as my skin is dry. The only time I tend to shower every day (sometimes more than once) is on a beach /hot holiday as I will swim every day.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 19/09/2021 18:13

If I shower every day my skins gets incredibly dry and flaky and I leave a trail of snow behind me, no matter how much I exfoliate and moisturise. So I do it a couple of times a week, also only wash my hair twice a week. I do a standing wash each day and never had any issues of smelling.

LukeEvansWife · 19/09/2021 18:18

It really is competitive clean/dirty Grin

You have to wash your pjs every day and everything else in your house, shoes off at the door in case a tiny bit of dirt comes into the house, but shower twice a week Grin

Leftbutcameback · 19/09/2021 18:33

@girlmom21 yes, a shower cap. A nice spotty one at the moment!

IcedPurple · 19/09/2021 18:46

I don't know anyone outside of MN who has a 'strip wash'. They belong to the days when nobody had a shower and maybe had to heat water for washing in a kettle. They might still be useful for those with disabilities, but for the vast majority 'strip washes' are a major faff.

Another of those 'only on MN' things.

jelly79 · 19/09/2021 19:03

I shower at least once a day. It takes a few minutes and I love it. Makes me feel nicer. I work from home so I wash my hair less than I used to!

NuffSaidSam · 19/09/2021 19:04

My mum likes a strip wash because she doesn't like showers, so bathes but in between that goes for a sink-based strip wash. She's outside of Mumsnet, so that's 1. I imagine they're most popular amongst the older community who would have been having them 50 years ago. Maybe if you ask around that age group in real life you'll be able to meet a real life strip-washer?

Also, do you know the intimate washing habits of all the people in your real life? Because I find that absolutely fascinating! How soon into the relationship do you ask?!

SmellyOldOwls · 19/09/2021 19:10

It was every morning but then I had a baby so now it's whenever I get a chance. Probably 4/5 times a week.

LukeEvansWife · 19/09/2021 19:10

My mum is in her 70s and wouldn’t dream of having a strip wash. My grandmother (who was born over 110 years ago) did have them.

IceLace100 · 19/09/2021 19:11

My grandma (85) strip washes because getting dry after a shower exhausts her, so she only has one shower a week but she strip washes every day.

I am sure lots of elderly or disabled people are the same.
