To ask does anyone else have this other bloody virus?

Sore throat, hacking cough, bit of a cold but not much, feeling wiped out but just not getting any better? I’m up all night coughing and can hardly swallow.

Continually testing negative for Covid via lateral flow and have taken a PCR?

DS has now gone down with it. Tested negative with a lateral flow yesterday but am booking him in for a PCR today.

DS is pretty much over it, but dd now has sore throat and runny nose. LFT negative and she says there are quite a few kids out with it at school. I'm not going to bother with PCR, seems to be a different virus as ds' lfts all negative. So far DH and I and our other ds are fine, cross fingers!

blobby10 · 21/09/2021 09:22

Its going round our factory - fortunately a well aired, spacious building where everyone can work well away from anyone else and there are only 15 people in there. Just had our first positive Covid case (rather than isolating due to close contact stuff) so everyone was thinking it was that but all tests are negative .

Lightswitch123 · 21/09/2021 09:25

Me! Covid negative. It's the usual seasonal germs, just noticing it more this year as haven't been interacting as much last year. Annoying but It's important we are exposed to them though to keep up immunity

Longsleepneeded · 21/09/2021 09:34

Me too! Two negative lateral flows still felt awful , sore throat almost unbearable! Took a pcr test on Saturday, negative, sweating and freezing cold all day yesterday and stomach cramps. Can't wait to feel better.

Seeline · 21/09/2021 09:39

I think we have all become paranoid about covid though. I had a virus very similar to the one currently circulating about 4 years ago - well before covid - there was a similar thread on MN with people from all over the country saying that they had similar. Loads of viral infections are similar to covid. IF we are not testing positive on PCR tests, it is unlikely yo be covid. It is just one of the viruses that we have all had in the pre-pandemic past, that we would all have preferred not to have.

MarmotMorning · 21/09/2021 09:44

We've had this. We were exposed to Covid and had similar symptoms of aches, dizziness, sore throat, headache, fatigue. My friends who had Covid were experiencing the same things at the same time. However whilst they were testing positive our LFTs and PCRs were continually negative. Very strange.

The only thing they had that I didn't was changes to taste and smell so I guess it wasn't Covid, just another virus doing the rounds.

Alfiemoon1 · 21/09/2021 12:27

Pcr test done and sent back just caught the postman in time just waiting on the results now.

Babymamma192 · 22/09/2021 01:05

Anyone else throwing up with this virus or is that delightful symptom just happening to me?

BellsaRinging · 22/09/2021 08:07

@Babymamma192 me! Just as a result of the incessant coughing though I think.

GTAlogic · 22/09/2021 08:19

I've had to call in to cancel work today and we just can't afford it. I'm a supply teacher and only get paid when I work but I just feel like crap. I don't want to pass anything on to the children either.

I have a crushing headache, blocked sinuses and a cough. Covid test came back negative.

FlatteredFool · 22/09/2021 14:30

Ds is back in school today and I feel very tired after walking him there and back and have spent the day on the sofa. Ds was tired on the way there. It's over a mile but he normally walks 5/6 miles without complaint so it's not like him. It will be a slow walk through the woods on the way home. It's up hill and can be hard going at the best of times. I am more headachey and snotty today with sinus pain too. Early nights again.

notfromstepford · 22/09/2021 14:35

Yes me & the kids. Multiple negative LFT and negative PCR test. over a week in now - cough is lingering with the kids, I still feel pretty rough.

TheDuchessOfMN · 22/09/2021 14:48

@Babymamma192 My dd and ds both vomited once.

I wonder if this virus is related to covid? Neither Dh or I caught it (both double vaxxed) but the kids (unvaccinated) did. Negative covid tests though. Strange.

NoEffingWay · 22/09/2021 17:52

We have all had it, DS the least affected but DP and myself were coughing all the bloody time.

RJnomore1 · 22/09/2021 17:55

The faux-vid!

Yep I’ve got it. It’s nothing like Covid having had that earlier in the year but it’s still rubbish.

1FootInTheRave · 22/09/2021 18:00

Yep, both youngest dc have it.

Pcr negative but dc3 is really poorly with it.

Laiste · 22/09/2021 18:06

Yep.
My cough sounds like a bloody donkey braying and it's playing havoc with my pelvic floor Hmm Got that horrible wheeze at the end of each breath. Snotty, tick. Sore throat, tick but only on/off.

DH had it first last week. Youngest DD was off school with it for 2 days last week. Now it's my turn.

Neg tests.

DancingBabyGoat · 22/09/2021 18:12

Yes! My DH had it for a week then I got it and it’s been nearly 2 weeks and I’m still ill. Now the DC are poorly.

Iimaginethiswillbefun · 22/09/2021 19:55

I can’t get rid of this bloody cough! I’ve just had a steamy shower to try and get all the gunk out. Just keeps coming.

Keep saying at work I don’t have covid promise! If they weren’t so pissy about people being off sick you know in a pandemic then I could sit at home and cough there.

OP posts:
Laiste · 22/09/2021 20:18

''Keep saying at work I don’t have covid promise!''

That was like me when i rang the school about DD! (yr3)

What made it worse was that the night before we'd received a cheery email saying someone in her class had had a poss test but we were all to send our kids in as normal. I was fretting that they'd think i was keeping DD off because of that Hmm I'm never usually a worrier about 'what will the school think'. This bloody pandemic has made us all so damn twitchy!

ablutiions · 22/09/2021 20:27

I hate to say it OP but I started with this in late JULY. I've just gone back to work after 2 months off.

All the symptoms of covid, except loss of smell. Ended up in a &e with breathing issues and very bad cough. Am finally on the mend with a strong inhaler. Still sore chest and throat though.

I'm asking to see a specialist next as it's coming up for 3 months now.

I hope you fare better. Confused

Autumngoldleaf · 22/09/2021 20:48

Silkies catz

Im amazed tk read that people are still sharing drinks after covid!
It's always been banned in my family

Anonymouseposter · 23/09/2021 09:43

I'm not sure what to make of this.
Two year old had to test after being a close contact in nursery. He tested positive. Two days later he developed a temperature and bad cold.
The rest of the family tested 2 days later-all negative.
After another two days the mother and the 8 year old became ill with symptoms as described above. Both lft and pcr continued to test negative.
Could be a different virus but it does seem strange.

AngeloMysterioso · 23/09/2021 09:47

On BBC News website this morning-

Is 'the worst cold ever' going around?

Alfiemoon1 · 23/09/2021 10:30

I can vouch for that Angelo 1 week on I still feel rubbish pcr test is negative though
