Sore throat, hacking cough, bit of a cold but not much, feeling wiped out but just not getting any better? I’m up all night coughing and can hardly swallow.

Continually testing negative for Covid via lateral flow and have taken a PCR?

DS has now gone down with it. Tested negative with a lateral flow yesterday but am booking him in for a PCR today.

@EmergencyPoncho

I'm no scientist at all, but is there no chance this is another strain which isn't picked up by lateral flow tests?! I'm guessing not but just wonder.
Yes of course it is. Because the virus evolves….. like the common cold.
TorySteller · 19/09/2021 16:30

Same here. Started with a sore throat, quickly developed into a horrific cough that has kept me up at night for over a week. Not really had sneezing/runny nose at all.

After a week or so of the cough, my glands started to swell and I felt like I had tonsillitis.

I’m almost 2 weeks in now and I’m only just starting to feel back to normal.

Oh, and negative COVID tests, but I’m also convinced this is possibly a new variant. I’ve had both vaccines.

Miremont · 19/09/2021 16:35

My DD has this too. Been wiped out all week. The other three of us in the house all have PCR confirmed Covid but she has taken five LFTs and two PCRs and all negative.

She’s been the most ill of any of us.

MidnightEscape · 19/09/2021 16:47

Ds had gastroenteritis just before returning to school, had to take a few days off on the return, wiped him out. Back a week and then comes down with a cold, aching, snotty, and now coughing (caused by nasal drip) all negative LFT!

Aishah231 · 19/09/2021 16:55

This is why spending 100s of billions trying to combat a flu type virus which mutates was always a mad idea. That and recommending people stay indoors and sanitise the shit out of everything so their natural immunity (which is more adaptable to different strains of viruses) doesn't develop.

CandyflossKid · 19/09/2021 17:05

Yes! 3rd week of it for me. Def not Covid but a terrible cough and has completely wiped me out and I feel awful.
The first week I went through boxes of tissues as my nose didnt stop running

Iimaginethiswillbefun · 19/09/2021 17:14

I’m not snotty at all. The odd sneeze and nose blow.

But hideous sore throat, hacking cough and headache. It feels like it was going to be a cold and then it never worked out that way and got worse.

I was ill for three weeks over the end of August/start of September. It started as a sore throat and dry cough - PCR was negative. I felt worse and worse, another PCR a couple of days later was negative.

After five days I was really congested, snotty, sore ears, sore throat. Then it was a sinus infection and eventually a chest infection.

I’m still completely exhausted and a bit wheezy. I did 5 lateral flow tests plus those PCRs and all were negative.

SpnBaby1967 · 19/09/2021 17:20

Yes, I had it then DH caught it. My BFF and her son both have it.

amusedbush · 19/09/2021 17:21

Oh, I should also say I was feverish and I didn’t lose my sense of taste but everything was weird. I got a BBQ chicken wrap from McDonald’s and it tasted like prawn marie rose 🤢

Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 19/09/2021 17:22

Yes it’s been through our house. Had my daughter off most of the week with it

Ljc1985 · 19/09/2021 17:30

Started a week and a half ago and only
Now feeling normal! I was so congested and wiped out! The cough also kept me awake! It was grim

A virus which causes flu type symptoms in many but results in such an overwhelmingly higher rate of people needing intensive care - which overwhelms our health service - absolutely needs tackling!!

Unless the NHS is better funded then we will have to tackle it.

NeverSurrender · 19/09/2021 17:40

We all had it. Started with me, and I was convinced it was COVID but all tested negative. It took a good two weeks before I felt better, DD is still coughing three weeks later. Was the worst cold I've ever had by a long way. I couldn't stop sneezing and my nose was streaming, slight temperature, cough, really bad headache and body aches. My legs and under arms were really painful. Was just rubbish!

NeverSurrender · 19/09/2021 17:43

Mild loss of taste and smell too. I can't think of another time we've all gone down with a cold one by one like this. For the week leading up to it I was absolutely exhausted too.

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 19/09/2021 17:43

Dd1 and now on starting with it. So fed up.

Feelingoktoday · 19/09/2021 18:28

Yes. Started with razor blades in the throat. Then wiped out and full blown cold. Went to my ears too so dizzyness. Two weeks later still no energy and cough

Feelingoktoday · 19/09/2021 18:29

Yes Pcr test negative and took lateral flow test daily. It’s like a copy cut Covid. At one stage I couldn’t smell anything.

N0PE · 19/09/2021 18:54

We all had this 2 weeks ago. It started with my oldest DS.

How the hell did he get it when it’s still masks at school, cleaning desks every class room, mask when in shops, and sanitiser used often?

Tuirseach · 19/09/2021 19:39

Yep we had it, it was RSV.

Skysblue · 19/09/2021 20:03

Wow this thread is a revelation. Makes you wonder how effective the tests are for new variants 😭

Feelingoktoday · 19/09/2021 20:18

I’m positive I had Covid. But all the tests were negative.

WoozySnoozy · 19/09/2021 20:19

I've got the ears too!
FindingMeno · 19/09/2021 20:20

Yes, the whole family has.
Multiple negative covid tests ( lft and pcr)
It's a bloody nuisance.

Partey · 19/09/2021 20:22

Me! Started the day after my second vaccine- probably coincidence.

Started in my sinuses- took a week or so to drop onto throat and chest. Have been coughing for over a week. 2 negative PCR’s in last 3 weeks. Ds has had it too.

I’ve pulled a stomach muscle coughing, any kind of activity wipes me out. But the cough, it’s horrendous
