To think the fact that non-vaccinated people will now have to isolate from all non-red countries has been hidden in the small print

I’m pretty sure today’s travel announcement means that if you’re not vaccinated then you must self isolate for 10 days and take day 2 and 8 tests (can still test to release) from all countries outside of the red list

This means that non-vaccinated people going to what are currently green countries who thought they wouldn’t have to isolate, now will if they return after 4th October

Well it was quite obvious on the news.

FawnFrenchieMum · 17/09/2021 18:55

Get vaccinated. Problem solved.

ilovesooty · 17/09/2021 18:56

It seemed quite clear to me.

NutellaEllaElla · 17/09/2021 18:57

I don't see the problem

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 18:58

I am vaccinated - it doesn’t affect me but I just think it’s unfair on those who have chosen to go to green countries who now have to isolate for 10 days

OP posts:
Orchidflower1 · 17/09/2021 18:58

Unless they have a medical reason not to then they should get vaccinated- no probs then!

AnyFucker · 17/09/2021 18:59

Yeah

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 18:59

What if the do have a medical reason and have therefore chosen to travel to a green country?

It’s all the chopping and changing I find unfair

It's annoying for us with family from abroad who'd like to visit too. Because my dad for example only had one vaccine, as the EU country he lives in mandates that if you've had covid ( proven by PCR test ) within six months, you only need one vaccine to be deemed fully vaccinated. However, this is not what's deemed fully vaccinated in the UK. So essentially he's unvaccinated for traveling to the UK. Which really sucks. I wish we could all have more similar rules.

Pumperthepumper · 17/09/2021 19:02

I think this is probably the risk you take when you go abroad just now. The rules could change at any point.

LukeEvansWife · 17/09/2021 19:02

Seems pretty obvious

Gardenwalldilema · 17/09/2021 19:04

Anyone who travels now surely has to assume that worse case scenario there will be an isolation period at the end. The rules are regularly changing, it's foolish to assume anyone is guaranteed a clear passage home.

toobusytothink · 17/09/2021 19:04

What about 12-18 year olds?

PTW1234 · 17/09/2021 19:05

I don’t think there are many people who are unvaccinated because of medical reasons that are are travelling abroad - not even from a risk perspective - insurance would be a nightmare!

Everyone who plans on travelling abroad should be well aware by now that thing often change at short notice.

People under 18.5 years don’t have isolate.
thepeopleversuswork · 17/09/2021 19:10

Honestly, travel outside the UK has been a huge gamble for so long. Even vaccinated people think twice.

If you aren’t prepared to take that basic and free step to protect yourself and others I don’t see why the authorities need to prioritise your wants.

Can't see anything unfair about it if you choose not to be vaccinated.
jade0881 · 17/09/2021 19:12

Hi op

I agree with you it is u fair. I'm not vaccinated, don't plan to either until I do more research. I am heavily pregnant and choose not to be vaccinated.. I have my reasons and I won't be judged by people who are vaccinated because it isn't up to them. Of people want to be vaccinated then that's down to them and if people don't want to vaccinated then it's there choice.
If you test positive for "Covid" then isolate if you test negative then you be free.

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 19:16

Because it is OK from a green country at the moment but after 4th October it won’t be

But you’ve always needed vaccinations to get into certain countries. It’s nothing new.

It is your choice but it’s also the choice of governments, airlines and other business owners to prioritise protecting the public as best they can.

If you choose not to take the necessary steps to protect others you can’t expect others to accommodate you.

Pixxie7 · 17/09/2021 19:19

They know that the protection from vaccination declines relatively quickly so it does raise the question of how protected vaccinated people are.

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 19:19

My point is that, as of today unvaccinated people can travel to green countries without self isolation, from 4th October they can’t

It’s a backwards step

So? Travel requirements change on a regular basis. It was always on the cards that at some point the unvaccinated would face greater restrictions. If that's a choice people made they'll have to realise that that choice has consequences in terms of what they can do.
