To think the fact that non-vaccinated people will now have to isolate from all non-red countries has been hidden in the small print

I’m pretty sure today’s travel announcement means that if you’re not vaccinated then you must self isolate for 10 days and take day 2 and 8 tests (can still test to release) from all countries outside of the red list

This means that non-vaccinated people going to what are currently green countries who thought they wouldn’t have to isolate, now will if they return after 4th October

I suppose they did admit that it’s only to try and get more people to get the injections.
Surely if the virus is so deadly then it would be best to make everyone have a test and that be it.
It’s now like the government is saying it isn’t as deadly as we’ve been saying as they know that everyone can catch and transmit the virus the same regardless of injection status.
I certainly wouldn’t feel happy travelling abroad knowing that I potentially was carrying the virus and spreading it unknowingly as I hadn’t had a test. It’s then hardly controlling a virus.

@knittingaddict

What happened to home remedies.

Right that's it, someone has just jumped the shark and it's hilarious. Or is it tragic? Just can't tell any more.

It's a bit worrying that she works as a nurse.
minatrina · 17/09/2021 20:21

@Butterflyfluff

If people are daft enough to refuse vaccines I have no sympathy.

Please could you explain who, other than themselves, unvaccinated people are a danger to?

Vaccinated people can still catch and transmit Covid

...? Vaccinated people are less likely to contract covid after exposure than unvaccinated people. Which therefore makes it less likely they will be able to give it you.

Furthermore, it's been observed that even if a vaccinated person contracts covid, they are likely to have a lower viral load which makes them less of a transmission risk (I'm no scientist so if my explanation about viral load is incorrect then someone please correct me. But it is definitely the case that studies are clearly showing that infected vaccinated people are less likely to transmit than infected unvaccinated people).

This has been pretty well document and reported on, I'm surprised there are people who are still not aware?

The CDC have quite a good rundown here, you have to scroll past the updates first though to get to the summary bulletpoints. If you want the nitty gritty, it's all listed in great detail further down the thread including the relevant data. Plenty to be getting on with!: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/fully-vaccinated-people.html

londonrach · 17/09/2021 20:22

It's not hidden...every newspaper and reader said it...

ilovesooty · 17/09/2021 20:22

People do not carry and transit the same regardless of injection status

Windyone · 17/09/2021 20:22

@jade0881 yes but where is your research based? Are you a nurse in a research environment? Sorry, just trying to understand what king of research you are doing. Obviously the more research that is done the more we all benefit. Can you tell us a bit more about it?

Transmit. Unfortunate typo.

All of you are gullible... Iet me tell you something. How can government have a rule in on asking patients family members what they want to put on a death certificate? Although the person passed of a heart attack.

I have my opinion on the vaccine so imma do me.

ilovesooty · 17/09/2021 20:27

Until your work insist on vaccination of course, which may happen.

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 20:27

Careful love, your anti-vax agenda is starting to show through the "poor travellers" facade.

How can I be ‘anti-vax ’ if I’ve been vaccinated? 🤔

OP posts:
DeepaBeesKit · 17/09/2021 20:29

Well you could be bullshitting. That'd be one way.

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 20:30

And no, vaccinated people are nowhere near as likely to catch or transmit the virus.

Please could you link to the scientific evidence that this this the case?

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 17/09/2021 20:30

Anyone who insists that vaccination has no effect on transmission is spreading an anti vax message in my opinion.
**@jade0881

I'm not joking, go boil up some fresh garlic, lemon and honey. Have it daily(once or twice) and defo drink it when u come up with cough and cold. Also fresh lemon(squeezed) and honey. Take a few teaspoons.

Have you informed the WHO of your peer-reviewed, double-blinded study on these remedies?

4.6 million people have died of COVID since last year. I'm sure they will be absolutely kicking themselves when they realise they just needed some garlic.
Fucking hell @jade0881. I've heard it all now Blush!
And we've had almost a year of being told how the vaccine works but still people can't seem to work out the simple facts, do some of you never read, or watch the news? I can't fathom it Confused

Sugarandtime · 17/09/2021 20:31

@ilovesooty

Studies reported a couple of weeks ago that the the viral load was the same. I was just going by what had been reported.

I will say the only people that I know that have a had a positive test result recently have all had 2 injections and there certainly didn’t seem to be any problem with it spreading. But that only the people that I know.

How about you do 'one' instead?
Adelino · 17/09/2021 20:31

@Butterflyfluff
The vaccine doesn't stop you getting covid but it reduces the chance of you catching/ being able to transmit it by between 80 and 90%.
For this reason, if you are unvaccinated you are more of a risk to everyone as you are much more likely to catch and therefore be able to transmit covid.

As noted above the vaccine is not 100% effective so anyone with covid is still a risk to anyone even if they are vaccinated.

FWIW I do agree with you that people from green countries have got a rough deal here. Especially for those in countries where the UK doesn't recognise their vaccination program.

I already linked a good summary from the CDC up the thread but here it is again. Plenty of data here. www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/fully-vaccinated-people.html

This was just one of the first pages I came across on google. There's plenty more summaries and data if you care to look it up.

Butterflyfluff · 17/09/2021 20:32

Ok, I accept that those who don’t take the vaccine use up medical resources

But I still don’t see how they are any more of a danger in terms of passing on the virus to others
