I mean I know I’m not supposed to let it out of my sight and before COVID-19 I would have sent him with some cash but now I never have any!

Do you/would you let your DC use your cash card? DS is 13.

The lady in question is dead now so it's a moot point but still I don't know what else she could do

My ndn gave the card to her 16 yr old ds to get a hair cut as he was the first one out of isolation and he lost it!

Been sending my DD with my card to collect and pay for our Saturday night takeaway for ages!

As you say, it’s a moot point.

But if someone like your MIL is acting as a ‘carer’ they’d be wise to think about the implications of what if someone thought they were acting inappropriately. It can cause a lot of hassle for someone.

Getting stuff in writing, meticulously keeping receipts and a paper trail, paying yourself and having the client pay an itemised invoice etc.

I know these situations arise, usually with best intentions from the ‘carer’, but I’ve also seen them cause problems. Often ‘no family’ = no family close by or who want to take responsibility but suddenly when money is involved they’re VERY interested indeed and the person doing a favour or in a low paid position is accused of all sorts.

So if your MIL is going to be in that position again I’d advise her to just put some protection in place.

I should’ve added payment by cheque! Most older people are fine with writing cheques.

And I'm sure absolutely nothing happened. You just log on to online banking, cancel the card and they send you a new one in a day or too. Really not the end of the world.
