To give my DS my bank card to get a few things from the shop?

I mean I know I’m not supposed to let it out of my sight and before COVID-19 I would have sent him with some cash but now I never have any!

Do you/would you let your DC use your cash card? DS is 13.

I would, but technically it's fraud.

DeathStare · 13/09/2021 14:50

I do all the time.

poorbuthappy · 13/09/2021 14:50

God yes. I send my kids with my bank card all the time! Although usually under £5 spend.

Homemadearmy · 13/09/2021 14:51

I do it all the time with my kids and Ive never got cash either

Helloumi · 13/09/2021 14:51

Yes, I see no problem. And if it's contactless, he doesn't even need to know your PIN.

parietal · 13/09/2021 14:51

i've done that many times

Wilkolampshade · 13/09/2021 14:52

I did/do this.
Occasionally DD2 likely to add a few things of interest to herself to my list in the guise of 'I bought you a treat mum' 🙄❤️

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/09/2021 14:52

I do.

Daisyandroses · 13/09/2021 14:52

Wouldn’t even question it to be honest.

I would just get him his own bank account though to save the hassle.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 13/09/2021 14:53

Yep, do it all the time. It's hardly fraud if you're giving your permission for him to use it.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/09/2021 14:54

Technically you’re not supposed to let anyone use your card but I do it all the time…!

Wolfiefan · 13/09/2021 14:54

No. I wouldn’t.

AryaStarkWolf · 13/09/2021 14:55

I always do

AutumnColours9 · 13/09/2021 14:55

Yes I have done it lots

Doggiedementia · 13/09/2021 14:55

I wouldn’t because if you ever have an issue the bank will be funny if they find out you’ve been doing it.

purplesequins · 13/09/2021 14:55

I wouldn't but here (not uk) you are often asked for id when paying by card.

dc needs his own bank card or you need to give him cash.

moynomore · 13/09/2021 14:56

I do it almost every day with my 12 year old.

FAQs · 13/09/2021 14:57

I do with dd.

ChickenSandwichYum · 13/09/2021 14:57

My dad gives me his bank card to get his shopping on as he hates going into shops (always did not a covid thing). I always thought it was ok if you'd given the person permission, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to...

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/09/2021 14:58

All the time! DS is also 13. He has his own card so sometimes uses that if I ask him to pick something up on his way home from school and I'll transfer the money but it's easier just to give him my card. He's very trustworthy, both in terms of not overspending and not losing it!

Akire · 13/09/2021 14:58

Ok for one off but be prepared for them check the card if he looks to young for a debit card and guessing it’s got Mrs on it so could be tricky explain. I know are kids debit about but not that common.

Better off let them use cash machine and get cash out. You can always change pin later.

SusieBob · 13/09/2021 14:59

It's pretty low risk but in my checkout days I was told to not accept card payments if the person presenting it clearly wasn't the cardholder.

Stormyequine · 13/09/2021 15:01

I don't see a problem with it. It is definitely not fraud, and it is not even like he needs to know the pin number for it these days so I don't see why it would be an issue.

ChickenSandwichYum · 13/09/2021 15:01

How does that work with Financial Power of Attorney? My aunt has POA of my grandfathers finances and often uses his card to get his stuff as it's easier to monitor and check than transferring the money to her account.

GF has dementia and doesn't know much about whats going on.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/09/2021 15:01

If you do this, and then become the victim of bank fraud, the bank could use the fact that you had told someone else your PIN and let them use the card as justification to refuse to repay any stolen money.
